Finch critics have suddenly crawled into a dark, quiet place.
It was a great innings but should have been caught by Woakes with a regulation catch on 0.

I guess those are the swings and round-abouts of cricket.

Regardless, he's certainly one of the openers in my best Aussie XI.

No one's commented about Mitch Marsh's match-winning performance with the ball? Just as important as Finch's innings.

Surely Watson's goneski if Clarke is picked - must be nice to be an also ran and pay $9m for a house
I think Watson stays because of his bowling. If we replace him with a batsman, Maxwell needs to bowl 10 overs.

Watson is terrible but maybe he loses his spot when Faulkner is available and can bowl again.

On last night's evidence we want to limit how much any of our spinners bowl.

Nah, still a flake. He got dropped on 0. One good knock doesn't mean much in a summer of shit.

Oh and nice and sunny here, good to see a dominant victory first up.

Squads selected for the Windies and Ashes tours: Michael Clarke (c), Steve Smith (vc), Fawad Ahmed, Brad Haddin, Ryan Harris (Ashes only), Josh Hazlewood, Mitch Johnson, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Peter Nevill, Chris Rogers, Peter Siddle, Mitch Starc, Adam Voges, David Warner, Shane Watson.

HTF does Watson warrant a spot over Maxwell? Apart from that mystifiying selection the rest of the squad looks OK. O'Keefe could consider himself unlucky while Harris and Siddle should buy tickets in a lottery.

Don't agree with most of what you've written there Lindommer!

If Harris can walk he gets picked, last few years have proven that.

Siddle was dropped and then went and took 28 wickets in the shield at the best strike rate and average in the competition. Deserves his spot.

And Watson (batting down the order and in red ball cricket) simply offers more with the ball and the bat then Maxwell.

O'Keefe is unlucky but were going to pick a leg spinner every time if it can possibly be justified.

I reckon Maxwell is still a little way off test cricket. His fielding would be a huge advantage but its yet to be seen if he has the grit to hold an innings together against the red ball.

As for Siddle, I'm a little disappointed he's there regardless how he performed in the shield. He has had so many chances and failures. I would have liked to seen Cummins or Abbott or some other young prospect. Agree that O'Keefe is extremely unlucky.

Well done to Voges on being selected at the ripe age of 35. Neville is another one I am stoked to see selected, as too Ahmed.

Hopefully we can give some of the fresher faces a run in the West Indies series and reward some of the world cup performers with a rest before a huge Ashes series.

Hope the Windies and Poms put up stiffer resistance than their ODI teams did for the CWC.

Being at home should help. International credibility of Cricket will take a blow if these series are both one sided white washes. Even John the Bookie may lose interest if they come too predictable.

I think they've picked him in the squad for the west Indies portion especially, where Harris is going to be absent. Apparently Harris has basically been the on field coach at mid-off keeping Johnson's head in the right place.

The bowling group need an experienced "leader" - even if he doesn't play any tests.

Johnson is not that man and Hazelwood and Starc aren't there yet.
