Well we all know I'm as biased as anyone bout my club. and despite Randwick giving us a footy lesson in all grades yesterday, the Wicks BBQ and canteen could certainly learn a lesson from Mrs TwoBlues and her assistants.

I arrived at Coogee at 10am, knowing it'd take me an hour to find parking, I was in a great position to cover the payment for the parking as the refinancing of the house had come through so I knew I could afford it yesterday.

On arrival I was surprised to discover the canteen and bbq weren't open, but conceded that kick off wasn't due for another 20 mins. Fair enough.

It didn't open until about 20 minutes into the first game, nothing was ready and the bbq was nowhere near even being fired up. I was keen for a bacon and egg and roll to start the day and was more than happy for my money to go to the Wicks. However, the stomach rumbles were becoming over powering so at half time in the 1st game, just on 11am, I ventured over to the canteen to see how long. 10 minutes I was told. 15 minutes late I went over, same answer. With 15 minutes remaining in the 1st game I saw the bbq guy arrive. Good news, my 1st world hunger pains were about to be eased. I had a quick chat with Jeffrey Sayle and with 10 minutes remaining in the 1st game, I headed back to said canteen to place the order. 10 minutes I was told. My stomach started telling me to bugger it and head into the main street and grab something, anything to get going. I was after all, heading into the Tahs match after a full day and wasn't keen on spending $10 for a cold pie at the SFS. Still wasn't quite ready but it was only a few minutes to go. So I waited and when it was handed over, the roll was stale and the bacon tasted like spam. I was so disappointed.

I noticed also it was $3 for a can of coke, which made me think we need to raise our prices at Merrylands. There was little or no variety on sale. The staff, were friendly and helpful of course, however in my humble opinion, we'd smash em in the Canteen Stakes.

Pity it doesn't transfer into on field success......................

I agree totally on how disappointing the BBQ at Coogee is.
Latham Park for some reason appears to be much better, but not in the same League as all our friends west of Uni.

Try the $12 burger with a few chips on the side at Woolarah, it was a good chew though.
Uni's self serve steak sandwich was good yesterday - fresh bread (white or grain) with freshly cut salad hit the mark.

@BellyTwoBlues, not biased comments. You have the right to get a warm and greasy feed and a drink while watching the footy. I am pretty sure that it is enshrined in our Constitution, somewhere near the bit Citizens having the right to quiet enjoyment of State and Commonwealth land.

On previous visits to Coogee oval, the Wicks BBQ was run by their Junior Village Clubs before it was abandoned a year or two back for a hipster F&B makeover including introducing Gozlemes, home made Deli Pies and the Coffee Van.

In the old days, the standards had slight variance depending which club was running it, but you could generally get a decent feed and drink from not long into fourth grade or 3rds Colts (if not at the start of the first game of the day) until well after 1.2 time in the first grade game. Onions were free and plentiful as well.

Sounds like the Wicks are making a tilt for the Shute Shield Canteen Wooden Spoon.

Do they not want to raise money for their club, or encourage spectators to turn up to their games and enjoy the experience. It sounds almost as if the SCG Trust caterers have taken over the Food and Beverage concession contract at Coogee Oval.

LIFT YOUR GAME RANDWICK. It is about stuff that happens off the field as well.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the various comments above. Hopefully things will improve as the year progresses.

Sadly IL2W - there was NOTHING available at Latham - all day. 4 games of footy, plenty of players, Randwick missed a big opportunity.

I even saw our Fijians with money in their wallets yesterday! As they left Latham, they were making arrangements with each other to meet up at Maccas.

Depending primarily on weather, a 4 Colts game BBQ can raise between $500 and $800 for not much effort.

Do you invite people over to your place and not provide them with a feed and drink, or even the opportunity to buy a feed and/pr a drink when they are at your joint?

It should be in the SRU competition rules, under Host Club responsibilities.

Do the Wicks have so much money after the sale of their Clubrooms that they believe they don't need to raise funds like the rest of the clubs?

I would prefer the leadership at the Wicks spend more of their time on the BBQ,and less time recruiting sponsors and poaching Schoolboy rockstars.
They were much easier to beat when their BBQ squad was strong.....
The girls on the coffee truck are friendly, and their home made muffins & rock cakes are good!

Coffee was really popular on Saturday. Any notions as to why?

Last week we enjoyed a bacon and egg roll on arrival at Penrith follwed by sausage sandwich and ONION at morning break with a famous emu burger for lunch - Penrith will take some beating.
This week saw such a loooong que at coogee , I gave up.
Long live the volunteers

Can't understand why nobody seemed to anticipate there would be a big crowd at Coogee yesterday -- Wicks won 4 in a row, beautiful day (at least until late afternoon), local derby, Anzac Day.

However, you had to queue to pay for a sausage sandwich and then queue again to actually get it. The tap beer struggled all day due to gas problems and the queue just kept getting longer as a result. Eventually someone got the bright idea of going up the road to buy a couple of cases of VB -- problem solved.

It's all been said by earlier posters, but Wicks you've got to either sort this out or let the junior clubs run things again. At least they had a vested interest in getting it right.

Well done to the volunteers who are doing their best -- the above problems are not your fault nor are they your job to fix.

Great to see the players cooking at the BBQ at Chatswood on Saturday showing plenty of spirit! If those in charge could issue them with gloves and ask them not to eat whilst cooking and serving it would be even better.

Last Saturday at Manly Oval no onions or sauce. Some idiot forgot about Anzac Day. Not happy.
