That is true.

If it continues to be a problem rather than an occasional frustration I'll look into a change. As it stands the wheels new and cost me a motza so I'll probably have to continue being quixotic and get real good at patching tubes.

On a more positive note, VicRoads have been following up after some twitter pestering.

As I drove home from work at 11:30 last night I passed a guy in a hoody on his bike. No lights, no reflectors, no helmet. It was a section of road with no street lights.
In what world does anyones inner monologue tell then this is smart.
Yes the paint would work but that moron would have tagged a wall with it.

Incidentally 5 minutes earlier I nearly hit a girl on a bike sneaking across an intersection on the red. Also no lights.

A guy riding a bike in a hoodie at 11:30pm is probably up to things that would be made easier by him being not seen easily.

Perhaps they are looking for an entry in the Darwin Awards?

Congratulations to C.Yclopath on achieving a very creditable 2nd place in his 2-Man Matchplay Cycling race last weekend:

I managed an honourable third in a criterium race once when I got my sums wrong and sprinted on the 2nd last lap, only to realise after I crossed the line, then get chased down with 400m to go. I don't know what was worse - the near-death of trying to stay in it or the intense mocking afterwards. At least I actually rode over the line!

Driving into Camden this evening - well after sunset - and some clown in Team Sky racing gear is on the main road with no lights or reflectors, trying to merge and cross.

What a fucking idiot.

There are some prime idiots in the world.

I ride home along the Capital City trail, which snakes alongside the Yarra from the CBD into the northern suburbs. It's popular with walkers, joggers and dog owners for obvious reasons.

At the moment, with sunset falling before 5pm, I'm finding myself riding home and running a gauntlet of walkers and joggers dressed head-to-toe in black and without any form of reflector or lights to signal their presence. The path is dark (pitch black in many places) and some cyclists are going at a fair speed.

A collision between a big MAMIL and a little woman walking the dog would be catastrophic and largely avoidable if both parties are carrying some form of light.

There are a couple of sections of my commute that are the same. FFS people, make yourselves known!

It's bizarre. Heaps of cyclists are now sporting proper light rigs with external batteries - they blast the area with light. But if you're running a little USB-charged front light like me, you've got much less time to respond to a couple of luvvies gas-bagging across the lane.

People seem so blithely unaware of the risks they put upon themselves!
