what on earth is happening with division 3? When are all those games going to be made up with only 1 wet weather round?

They are actually the same club so unfortunately you lost. Hogwosh but i dont think you can do a thing about it

We actually ended up getting a 28-0 win for it. In fairness you either register as a Convicts or Colleagues player regardless of the relationship between the clubs. Apparently Convicts team sheets will be watched carefully by Subbies to ensure it doesn’t happen again

Strange week in firsts in Division 4 only the Irish and Quins games going to form. The biggest shock was probably Convicts getting up over Blacktown away.

Incidentally I heard that the Irish Rouse Hill game which was called off a few weeks ago will be replayed on the bye week at the end of the month.

Yes it will - Rouse Hill still got their fine and will apparently still get 2 points docked - despite no clear evidence of them (us) being responsible for the stoppage.

The referee's report doesn't reflect the events of the day, and on the surface it feels like yet another "fuck Western Sydney" move from Subbies.

Maybe we need a few more lawyers or GPS old boys playing at the club...

Oh yes because Sydney Irish are just so stacked with GPS old boys and high flying suits.

Jesus you talk some dribble sometimes.

They always go with the ref's report of these things, unless there are miiiles off the mark. Otherwise it's just a he said/she said thing and there is no way of resolving it.

First point: shove that comment up your arse. Don't worry, I'll explain why:

Oh yes because Sydney Irish are just so stacked with GPS old boys and high flying suits.

Where did I say that was even a factor? Show me where I even referenced Irish in this regard? Maybe you should stop talking drivel and listen to what I'm saying instead.

Maybe, as a club, we need something extra to stop the perception that we're a bunch of reckless bogans and coconuts on meth living in a Western Sydney public housing wasteland. Like in a game where the ref seems against you, its a case of playing well enough that you take that out as a factor.

Sometimes, we don't do ourselves any favours, sure, but maybe we're also tired of getting the shitty end of the stick in this environment.

Let's look at the facts around this incident:

- This ref has prior form with instability (see prior post about Rockdale v The Vales)
- He got aggressive with our captain for just asking about the penalty count i.e. "ARE YOU CALLING ME A CHEAT?!!"
- He abandoned a game despite no ill feelings between the teams, no fighting, and no abuse, stating words to the effect of "I didn't come out here for this!"
- He abandoned the game after one of our players (second rower) had to fix his shoelaces before a scrum - which is disregard for player safety and equipment, covered under the Laws 5.4(b).
- Under Subbies' own Rulebook (Rule 11), the result was 7-7 in an abandoned match after halftime, which means the result would otherwise stand.
- Irish were as shocked as we were after the game - the conversation between our President and theirs contained equal levels of bemusement.
- The referee's report contains implied fear for his own safety, which is utterly ridiculous.
- No other referee has communicated any problems with our First Grade this season
- He didn't even submit the report until more than a week later at Subbies' insistence.
- Despite fears for his own safety, hung around and happily shook hands and had a beer (mostly with Irish).

Next thing we know, Subbies have docked us two points after receiving a comprehensive writeup from Irish stating that, because we were the cause of the abandonment, they be awarded the points for the match. Irish's report also contradicts their conduct after the game.

The end result is, we're on a good behaviour bond (for nothing) along with a fine, and are down two points apparently, and still have to replay the game, for which we stand to gain a maximum of three points if we win with four tries.

Subbies has a history of fucking clubs hard if they're not from the right areas. Look at the absence of Campbelltown, who suffered the wrath of Subbies' for years, while other First Div clubs were allowed to get away with murder. Beecroft being allowed to drop three divisions is another massive black mark against the entire setup (though at least they finally lost on the weekend).

No, we're not angels, but the image of rugby as an inclusive sport is pure fantasy when these things happen.

Oh I'm not doubting you guys got screwed. Royally, it seems.

I'm just not so quick to make this an east vs west thing. The fact is you guys have a track record with red cards (from a few years ago, sure, but these things linger) and rightly or wrongly tend to lose the benefit of the doubt with this stuff.

Pfitzy

George Gregan (70)
8 red cards (7 outright) in just over 9 years (over 5800 player appearances in total), and haven't had one in nearly two years (last was Aug 2013).

Only one of those players is still at the club, and he's never even had a yellow card besides that in 38 appearances for the club.

So as far as "track record" goes, we are about even in 9 years with Drummoyne's record from last year, with a far better hit rate.

Fair enough. But again I think the factors at play here don't have anything to do with East/West. Once the ref report comes out and condemns Rouse Hill as the cause of the issues, it's really hard to come back.

If anyone is to be condemned for bias, it's the ref, not Subbies.

Well, he's been stood down and we'll never have him ref one of our games again.

In contrast, the ref from the weekend sent me a txt (my mobile appears to be the only visible one on our site!) asking for email address for the head coach so he could give his feedback and suggestions.

Did you play on the weekend mate? I'm sorry I missed it. Was looking forward to running around you again.

Yeah mate had a run in 4s, then had a run off the bench in 2s, who were a bit short.

Was a great day of rugby, every game was a bit closer than the final scores would have you believe - that's the story of our season in the higher grades, can compete for 60-70 minutes but sadly not the full match.

Agree it's a shame I didn't have a chance to give you a cheap shot after you passed the ball from the ruck, as I clearly can't catch you while you have the ball!

Spoken like one private school kid to another. Hopefully our 4s can make a late run for the final. Always the case with a new team - tend to struggle to get it together.

Haha true. Yeah you guys are still right in the hunt, it's a real open battle for that 4th finals spot (assuming it's us, UWSH and Waverly). Was 7-7 for three quarters of the game, we just got a bit lucky with a few runaway tries towards the end.

You guys are performing admirably considering it's your first year in 3rd div. How many of the players are old boys?

It has been a good move. Probably a litter tougher than I anticipated but its good to play new teams week in week out that we have not faced over the last few years. Also surprised how little aggro there is in Div 3. So much more in the lower divisions. Barely been a scuffle in any of our fixtures.

I'll try to fire something up when we play you next.
Back in the day the HAC vs Valley games were a bit of a bloodbath. When I say back in the day, we are talking two years aho

And I imagine it would be really spiteful this year too given what went on between those clubs in the off season.

I agree generally though that all of our games tend to be trouble free, which is the way you want it.

Received an email from Mr Richards stating the Festival of Rugby Weekend on Saturday 27th June has been cancelled due to low participation numbers and will be used as a wet weather weekend.

Was actually looking forward to mingling with various clubs in other divisions. There is not a lot of opportunity throughout the year to catch up with old rugby mates from other teams and having a banter.

Interesting development as many clubs would have advised players from the start of the season that this was a scheduled week off. As recently as a week ago subbies communicated it is not a wet weather round aand no subbies rugby will be on. Players have booked weekends away/made other plans. Get ready for fireworks should they now look to make clubs play.

George Gregan (70)
Yeah that's a bit of a dick move. We're already booked in to replay Merrylands in First Grade, now we have to replay Irish as well. Plus we've got Beecroft for all grades on wet weather, and this weekend doesn't look like happening due to rain.

Looks like First Grade are picking up a Sunday.
