Sydney Colts - 2015

I like to watch

David Codey (61)
Uni +20 over Wests
Wicks by lots & lots over Parra
Easts will have their easiest win of the year over the Marlins.
Norths to get up over Gordon in the match of the round.
Eastwood have the bye.
Southern have the human bye (Rats).

It looks like Gordon played their postponed match against Warringah last night, winning 50-8. Not easy to now back up against Norths in less than 48 hours.

Gee whiskers. Was there a need for Gordon to absolutely pump Warringah with their best players, and then complain that it's not easy to back up in 48 hours against the Shoremen.

It is plain to see that the Rats are not very good this year, and Gordon could have used the game as a bit of a trial or motivating tool for some of their second grade Colts players to get a run on start in the 1's, their 3rds to start in the 2's and some of their Under 18's to start 3rd Colts, while resting their key Colts 1 players for Saturday's encounter against the Shoremen. They still would have won reasonably comfortably with an understrength Colts 1 team.

After the teams have scored the 4 Try Bonus Point, much of the rest of any score blow out is rather academic, although there will be some on here that will argue that points for and points against are vital numbers and every effort must be made to absolutely flay all the skin off the carcass of the dead horse.

Watch this space for a much closer contest with Parra v Wicks. Parra have been on the improve big time and with the stability of the same 15-17 players are a chance at an upset!! Very much a different backline than round 4 and in that round the Parra forwards were as good, even better that Wicks. Pushed them off the scrum a number of times. I'm sure there will be a lot closer score line.

Pretty poor effort with the Jarseometer last week, only getting 3/6 right and that includes the bye. Beasties still perform against the tip (yet no one has taken me up on the cunning plan to get the Beasties to the Grand Final by paying me to continue to tip against them), and top efforts from M2B and the Woodies.

Round 14 Tips
Eastwood v The Bye. No complaints from the Woodies folks about having to back up so soon after their mid week match against the MMM. Guaranteed 5 points for the men from TG Millner Field.

Eastern Suburbs v Manly. No better way for Manly to win than for me to tip the Beasties. Pauliasi Taumoepeau has his young charges playing well and with Jack Maddocks and his educated boot chewing off plenty of territory, and Nick Makas and Oli Robinson terrorising Mat Arnold and the MMM princesses, this will be a comfortable victory for the Beasties by 12+.

Gordon v Northern Suburbs. Match of the round. The Clancy's may overflow but I think the Gay Gordons may have too much pace in the loosies and back three. 21 all draw.

Parramatta v Randwick. The M2B have had some good wins lately and the score will be nowhere as big as it was when they met in earlier this year and the boys in blue decided that tackling was optional but the Wicks are in red hot form and will win comfortably by at least 20.

Warringah v Southern Districts. Hobbits will win by greater than the distance in km they have to travel from their Oval to Rat Park.

West Harbour v Sydney University. The Corporation have rolled out their big guns from the Aust U20's in an attempt to stop the rot. When was the last time that they lost two on the trot? The Corporation has decided that they will sing their song this week. Wouldn't want them to forget the words now would we? Pirates will compete, particularly at scrum time but ultimately they sill be soundly beaten by the vengeful Camperdown Corporation to the tune of about 30+.

You say that but you obviously haven't realised Gordon went down in 3rd grade colts.

4 Yellow cards too in the game. Felt like there was more contesting for some fresh pocket cheese out of the refs pocket than wanting to contest a scrum! 3rds Gordon Colts were understrength due to Uni exams and niggly injuries. Nonetheless, Norths will test their resolve this weekend.

@Rugby Mum, It takes a while for the cards to come through to the score sheets on Rugby Link.

4 Cards in a 60 minute game is like having someone sent off after 20 minutes, assuming that the temporary suspension (Yellow Card, Showing the cheese, sin bin) in Colts is for 10 minutes like it is in 80 minute rugby.

It is a tough ask for any team to win with 14 players for all but 20 minutes against an opposition, even before you start considering the impact of exams and niggly injuries.

Gordon 3rds are not Robinson Crusoe with exams and injuries, niggly or otherwise, but there have been reports that they have a rather strong contingent of U18's to call upon (although it was private school holidays this week). While we all think that the Rats are just surfer beach buns who like are totally chilled man, I reckon that they also suffer from niggly injuries, work and study commitments for their players, and they do not have any Under 18 squad to call upon for reinforcements.

No your right HJ. But hols do have an advantage down at the beaches. Lots of Auggies 1st 15 had nothing on last night and wandered down for a game in 3s. Played well too

^^^ The Rats would be happy if they could start to retain their former juniors who get educated at St Auggies. In recent times it has been one way traffic across the Narrabeen Bridge out of Rat town, to Manly, The Corporation, Randwick, Norths to name a few.

I think more than a couple of the better players this year at Auggies are quite staunch supporters of the Rats and seeing them in Green and White next year would be a good boost to the Rats and the overall Colts competition.

HJ - no one from Gordon is complaining. When Warringah refused to play earlier than Thursday I hardly think Gordon were going to go easy on them. These boys like playing footy so 2 games in 3 days is like the good old days.

^^^^ Maybe not from Gordon, or even on behalf of Gordon, and even may even be a long bow to call it a complaint, but this post appears to have kicked things off.

National Schoolboys play Tournament games on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. IIRC Under 20's at World champs play every three days, as do the National U20 Champs. As @Rugby Addict intimates, perhaps it's time to drink some concrete and HTFU.

You nearly picked this one HJ. Very close game - Final Score Norths 25 Gordon 24.

^^ Can't afford to lose focus at this time of the year as injuries take their toll, higher grades pinch players, some players head off on holidays, last day of uni exams for the semester, and some GPS, ISA and CAS 1st XV players "fill the gaps" in club rosters during their holidays.

Also impressive win for Rats over previously unbeaten Gordon in the Colts 3s in their midweek catch up fixture. Only blemish for the Rats yesterday was a 4 point loss in the Colts 2s.

On the back of almost nailing the Battle of the North Shore by tipping a 21 all draw, there is some humble pie being choked down at Chez Jarse after tipping the Hobbits to win Colts 1 by the kilometre distance between Rat Park and their Home park.

Eric Spilsted Shield (Colts Club Championship) Watch:
The Gallopers maintain a lead of more than 1 round of maximum points on The Corporation and it could prove to be unassailable. In turn, the Corporation nearly has a rounds maximum points lead over the Shoremen in third place.

I reckon that there will be more positional jockeying in mid table next week.

There are a maximum of 55 points available to a club each week, based on all 3 colts teams winning with a 4 try BP.

Randwick, 705 points
Sydney University, 645 points
Northern Suburbs, 594 points
Gordon, 533 points
Eastern Suburbs, 416 points (up 1 place)
Southern Districts, 407 points (down 1 place)
Eastwood, 352 points
Manly, 309 points
Parramatta, 293 points
West Harbour, 238 points
Penrith, 116 points
Warringah, 100 points#

How the Colts Club Championship table is calculated.
The competition points from the individual competitions are multiplied by the following factors and then added together.
Colts 1 - 6
Colts 2 - 3
Colts 3 - 2

# Warringah deducted 4 points for a Late Forfeit in Round 1 Colts 3, and 2 Points for a Forfeit in Round 2 Colts 3.
