Both. But the reserves from the ABs far superior. Non contested scrum decision by the Bok was a big call.

Yeh agree, uncontested scrums killed it, but if your guaranteed to win your own ball back, it shouldnt mean the rest of ur game fails. Its something with the balance of their reserve because the team seems to shift down a gear...

If the Bokkes get it together over the full 80, geez the darkness may contend with a serious contender which is great, already sick of the darkness winning all the time...Not :)

Bizarre end to a match up that was looking good. An anticlimax
Are you high right now? Richie Mccaw just score the match-winning try against the bokkes at fucking Ellis Park!

sorry mate, nobody will know, everyone had smashed their mute button to smithereens long before then.

Rest assured though, if any of those bok commentators had said it they

a) had just made it up

or

b) had heard it from Bobby Skinstadt.

And yet I would still take them over Stuart Barnes :D

They weren't great though.

Only seen the try highlights so far (nephew's 21st last night so a bit incapable of watching it live at 0300) but any win v SA at Ellis Park is a good win in my book!

Uncontested scrums. Bizarre. Totally bizarre.

Up until that point it was shaping up to be a classic Bokke vs Black match.

Own goal of monumental proportions from the Saffer Coach.

Isn't the rule in lineouts that if the halfback enters someone in the line must exit? Or is the ruling that the hooker had already thrown the ball before mccaw started his run in?

Well I not sure, but reading somewhere that theref called non contesting scrums, if so apologies to Boks, who I was pissed off for calling them!!

Ref asks the Boks if they have a suitably trained and competent front row.
Boks say no
Ref calls non-contested scrums

How the fuck did that go to uncontested?

6 front rowers on the park. WTF?

We suck anyway. Can't close a fridge door.

Well if that true Strewth (and thought was that what had happened), I go back to saying I lost a bit of respect for Bok rugby today!

Boks have more improvement in them with Vermuelen, Coetze and some better leadership from either De Villiers or Matfield.

Their physicality at the breakdown is far better than either NZ or Aussie.

Apparently the reserve wasn't designated as a TH option despite having played there in provincial rugby. So it appears it was an administrative stuff up on the part of the Boks management.

Though, to be honest you'd hope that could've been sorted out on the field like the AB's similar administrative stuff up in 2013 (mistakenly putting Mealamu instead of Coles on the team sheet) was.

Why the hell didn't the prop coming on step up and demand at least 1 scrum for a go. He could have been a hero.
As Sean Fitzpatrick said in the post game show "I am sure there are Springbok forwards spinning in their graves right now".

"According to World Rugby regulations, a team must name their loosehead and tighthead props before kick-off and if both players in a position are injured, scrums are no longer contested."

So no provision for a reserve THP to play LH if both TH's have gone off.

Can't recall ever seeing a team lose both their designated tight- or loose-head props so it's not a conspiracy, nor a cock-up, no-one "asked" for them, it's just one of those freak occurrences that happen.

I've now seen the 30-min highlights package & get the feeling AB were possibly ever so slightly the better side. Full replay at 1830 should confirm...............

Not sure why the boks went to uncontested, the commentator did say he had played at TH in super rugby right?

Bloody good test though, felt SA just lost it mentally in the last 10. Also should have taken the 3 when Whitelock went off, and backed themselves to get another chance in the next 10 minutes.

They did not. Them's the rules in test rugby. If both TH props go its uncontested.

Meyer after the game:
‘It doesn’t matter whether Trevor can or has played tighthead before [for the Bulls at Super Rugby level],’ said Meyer. ‘Once the two [designated] tightheads in a match 23 are off, the ref then rules that there are uncontested scrums. That’s the law.’

Well it's a stupid one at pro level, a props a prop, he might not be as apt on one side than the other, but he can surely hold his side up. Never thought I'd see a uncontested scrum between the ABs and the Bok.
