Stannies defeated Pats 36-15 at Stannies.
Very entertaining game Stannies led 19-5 at the break. Then Pats hit back after half time to make it 19-15 with 20 to go.
Stannies lifted a gear again to score a further two tries to win.

* Round 7 games postponed ?
Even if the Round 7 games were played, the places on the competition table would not change. If the Round 7 game that was played was removed and the round declared null, then positions 2 and 3 would change but there would be no difference to the composition of the Semi Final games.

Congratulations to Redfield College on winning the ISA Div 2 1st XV Minor Premiership.

To come:
I can't find the draw for the Div 2 semifinals yet but teachers are creatures of habit, so I reckon the following games will be played at Oakhill College this Saturday:
Redfield College (1) vs Chevalier College (4)
Central Coast Grammar (2) vs St Andrew's Cathedral School (3)

The winners of both fixtures will meet in the Grand Final in a fortnight.

Whilst the success of Auggies across all ages and grades (ignoring the bizzare 'C/Div 3' competition) would be pleasing to the MIC of Rugby over Brookvale way, the lack of competition within the ISA is of deep concern to the future of dedicated rugby players at other schools - looks like everyone else is playing for second place. Any thoughts? Experience has shown me that "thrashings" don't help anybody - the winners don't develop and the losers do something else next year.
Having said that, would love to see Joeys v Auggies across all ages and grades - that, my dear friends, would be as good as it gets at schoolboy level. Will it/does it happen?

^^^ At last count Joeys has 42 Rugby teams across the age grades. How many teams does Augies have?

The Joeys approach to rugby seems to be that they see value in games for all 42 teams, and not just the 1st XV and Age group A teams.

Oak Hill had a pretty good match against Joeys early in the season. The hills district team went alright (had a close win) against a not quite complete Joeys outfit.
Augies have done a round of trial matches against various GPS teams over the years, including Scots and Joeys I am not sure if it was seen as good preparation for the season in some circles. The last match at Hunters hill around 2011 the clock was unplugged with about 4 minutes to go and it took the Brookvale lads a while to realise they were not going to be allowed out until Joeys Scored. I have heard the reason for discontinuing matches against Scots should not be spoken of ........ . but this is only hearsay

Depth and matching team numbers is also difficult (4 teams per age v 8 teams per age). The last two years were against Shore and Riverview....Riverview had a pretty good day across the board.
Now that GPS are changing their comp dates there will be even less opportunity for outsiders to test their steel.

With the second round in GPS they will definitely be insulating their small competition from the other associations as trials will become much more difficult.

So the like of Auggies may not play a GPS trial again. More trips to NZwhere all seem welcome.

Thats alright every 2nd year with 1st & 2nd XV and maybe a 16s in school hols if times are good but it doesn't help all the other grades

So should ISA copy and close ranks too or open the circle wider. Though this association's participants may not have the individual school depth, we may find there are a greater number of participants in the sport across all schools. I hope the association can continue to build on the last two years of success

Stannies v Auggies tomorrow, will be interesting to see how the Stannies boys travel and what their lineup will be like as my nephew is doing his maths trial HSC there tomorrow. Should be good for younger boys experience especially with I think possibly a hard running Jack Veitch from outside centre.
Any thoughts?

Is it now time for ISA to adopt a home and away season?
The draw is out and first game up is Auggies v Oakhill. The winner should win this years ISA shield. Stannies have a tough away draw this year and could cause an upset but I would fancy their chances if they had the 2 big sides at home. Pats and Gregs have some good players coming through but maybe next year will be a closer comp.

Absolutely agree that ISA needs to go to a 6 team home and away plus semis comp.
Have never seen the sense in playing 5 or 6 trials then a 5 game season.

Unfortunately Pius cant handle Div 1 (in opens at least), just don't have the depth, it has become a soccer school.
4 XI teams vs 2 XV teams
12 out 15 soccer teams in the semis with 8 minor premiers.
If you were a kid in Yr 10 or 11 and you had a choice of playing soccer and winning some silver ware or playing rugby and getting pumped each week, not a hard choice.
