The game is won or lost by the Rugby Players. The Onlookers and Finishers simply determine the magnitude of the victory.

The forum seems to have been besieged by former forwards desperate to forget their playing day disappointments.
The 'majestic beasts' that Azzuri speaks of were more often overweight beer swilling slobs that limped from scrum to scrum. Glimpses of mediocrity were rare. Training an unnecessary inconvenience.
The stats of most interest to them were the time it took to scull a beer in the bar after the game.
I don't recall too many majestic beasts.
Methinks there are a lot of former forwards now viewing their playing days with a view that is somewhat detached from reality:)

@Wristman you are correct about beer swilling being an important traditional KPI for real rugby players (AKA # 1-8) however you do appear to be suffering from W.O.S....Wrist Overuse Syndrome.

Too much time spent shuffling cards, feeding chickens, waxing carrots, buffing bananas or social intercourse with the purse carrying divas in the back line will do that to a person.

Dr Azzuri suggests that you and your back line counterparts put down the curling tongs, hide the hair product and commence HTFU therapy. While it wont fix the back line's predisposition to treating their bodies like amusement parks it will give you guys an edge when you are thumb wrestling your BAE's

Ah Azzuri..how short your memory is.
In my day it was always the good looking well groomed and fashionable backs that were scoring with the ladies in the bar after the game....while the 'majestic beasts' as you call them were exposing their large, spotty and hairy behinds to all and sundry before huddling together in the corner of the room in their soiled track pants muttering to each other in a drunken stupor.

Correct. The Prima donnas needed to meet and mate with more thinly boned of the flock. If the Rugby Players were afforded that opportunity, then the mixing of the genes would reduce the potency of future Rugby Players.

History has proven that more hearty and buxom wenches, ignored by the mirror admiring Onlookers, have the right genes to keep the production line of Rugby Players in full swing. These standard breeds have proven to be lower maintenance and more loyal than the thoroughbreds, who are known for their flighty and demanding behaviour. Good luck with the Kardashian's and the Paris Hilton's of this world. The backs deserve them. Give me a simple and uncomplicated life.

Rugby - It takes all types.

Yes that certainly isn't a gene pool you would wish to dilute!
I would suggest inbreeding has been going on for a while now.

Your Honor.....let me present exhibit A: "Good looking, well groomed and fashionable backs" in the dressing room immediately after a game looking for an off field "score" with other good looking, well groomed and fashionable backs....

You will note the clean jerseys, artistically coiffured and colored follicles, de riguer makeup with fetching "smokey eye" look, depilated bodies waxed cleaner than the pates of a gaggle of Yul Brynner's, faux nails shaped to help scythe through the air when flamboyantly expressing their horror at the tactics employed by the opposition or their delight in receiving the latest luridly colored pair of plastic studded soccer boots.

Forwards Glossary of comparative terms:

Coiffeure: the hairy exterior of the skin which is used to wick away sweat generated by hard work
Smoky Eye: AKA as the black eye. Gained through vigorous discussion of the merits of the oppositions play.
Spray Tan: Dirt
Nails: Used to affix the lids to opposition coffins at the end of the game

Hard ass forwards?

"I'm loving these new lycra jerseys Dan, but do I look fat in mine?"

Ummmmmm..... Not quite @C&P.... I've heard the audio to that screen shot and Richie said "are you really going to play in those stilettos.... And what's a the go with the handbag Dan?"

MODS NOTE: The Forwards vs the Backs debate has been declared a draw.

No more until next time. Meanwhile, there is a round of footy to wang on about.

Clouds gathering over Sydney and the BOM currently predicting a 20% chance of rainfall which will favour the big boppers if it eventuates .... I hope those are seagulls circling over Stanmore way and not vultures. May have to dust off the trusty Silver Pidgeon!

Newington V Kings

Since round one much soul searching (and searching within old cook House Joe's cook books) has revealed that Kings are now eager to try it all again. Reports have filtered in a some changes to the menu for this weekend and the emphasis will not be just good honest food, but flair, fun and run. The previous weekend showed how ruthless Kings can be and nothing like a bit of momentum (like a runaway tractor), a few loud drums, vocal supporters may see the Kings boys push their Inner city cousins. Newington of course will have none of this nonsense as seen by the recent visit to my home by the Tapuii-ui twins who wanted to share there thoughts on taro insertion with me. Even so I feel Newington will treat Kings like a chicken uma and will bury the Parramatta boys in a pit of fire, roast them slowly and tear the life out of them. Newington by two dozen Kuku.

Scots v Joeys

In 2013 and 2014 Joeys were quite rightly belted by Scots in the first round by fine teams from Bellevue. In both return matches the lads from Hunters Hill showed enormous improvement and almost stole both games. (Clear winners though in the after game functions...no one beats Alba's sausage rolls) This I feel will continue again. The Joeys spring lambs have now grown some extra muscle, a quick step after galloping and feeding on the fields of Parramatta and Lane Cove. I believe they would feel somewhat confident with taking on Scots boys who have found the menu of late being stretched...is depth now a factor? Is there any more "enhanced" beef in the chamber?. The Joeys boys though have no such problem and like the excellent Beef Brisket Ale Pot Pie served at the Woolwich Pier, the Joeys lambs have a long feed lot and plenty in reserve. Being bold I feel not having Tom Wright will be an asset as he is easily startled by playing those who he knows. Never though under estimate the special meals served up in the Scots Cafe. Reports say that there is more than chicken salt been added to the diet of several large boys this year. In what shall be the match of the round, I predict Joeys by the smallest silver of a Salchichon Forest Mushroom Salami.

View v Shore

There are good things happening at Northbridge. Fine BBQ run by eager fathers, mothers manning the excellent canteen serving very good coffee and, as now finally discovered by the wider community, "the" best pie of the GPS. It is a shame though these heavenly treats show more resistance, spice, innovation and flair than the boys playing. Even an injection of curry and the occasional Moroccan lamb filling has yet to provide a knock out, let alone a stiff crust. Shore, like the excellent bread shop at Castlecrag, though will never, ever stop trying to rise and stand tall. In round one it was simple to see that the freshly caught barramundi matched with an excellent Sav Blanc from New Zealand was always going to be superior to the aforementioned pies. The refined diners enjoyed the better of the menu on offer, showing more imagination and control of the ingredients and it was Shore left with the washing up. This weekend I see no change in the winds and once again Shore will be left to scrub the pans on season that cannot end soon enough. View but a good dozen white wines.

Because the writers aren't available and we only had one Newington and one Kings' writer to start with—hence my pleas for help early in the season—it looks like we won't have a writer at the Newington v Kings game on Saturday.

Anybody at the game - could you please write as much as you can about the match in the forum? By picking up a comment here and another there we may be able to put a reasonable amount of information about the game into the blog with some bullet points.

If you like you could write a fair-dinkum match report.

Why not give it a go?

Thank you,

LG

Hey Mr Grant

I'm likely to be at the New/Kings game on Saturday and can provide comments (if not required on the BBQ) from 3rds up if you like. What you choose to do with them is up to you.

Thanks - we do blogs only on the Ones game; so send in as much detail as you care to.

If you want to give a lot of details (and you don't have to):

What exact time pm on the Newington scoreboard the game started

What time on the scoreboard scores were made

Who scored what

Progressive scores and times

What time the half stopped.

Half time score - try to get this.

Same for 2nd half and final score.

The flow of the game of each half / whole game

Best players and why
New / Kings

Again - you don't have to send all these details in; even a few lines from a few people will be good.

PS - can anybody out there send some photos in ???
