History says those with multiple teams in semi's struggle as they are stretched to thin when coming up against stacked sides.

Ossie Bob, what happened to BOBS after such a promising start? I think they are a real chance to take out the Barraclough but dissapointting not to see them in any other grade.

Heavy!

We are a good shot at first grade which is a great achievement after a couple of tough years following the drop from 1st division.

At the halfway point of the season we had all grades in with a shot of making the semis. But player numbers were a big issue in the back end of the season. After last year with our 4th grade being kicked out of the semis for the club forfeiting 3rd grade a couple of times i think the club focused on getting first grade into the finals and making it as strong as it could be!

We have a very young first grade team, my worry is that if they take home 'Barry' then we could see a lot of the guys retire. On the whole having having two players make the subbies rep team and being minor premiers in first grade means it has been a reasonably successful season so far!

It's been very disappointing at Iggies this year after a relatively promising start numbers have just dropped and not come back. Having watched most of their 1st grade games they have a reasonable group of players (mostly the forwards) with a few not up to it and no impact guys that you need to compete with the big teams.

Personally i think the whole of subbies needs to be re designed in a way because for example Iggies 1st and 2nd grade are not Div 1 standard but most yrs their 3rd, 4th and 5th manage to make finals and the colts are top 2 every year. Do teams need to be put into their own levels? I do understand this would take away from some atmosphere and action on the day.

I have put forward the model before where your teams play according to their level not where the club over all is placed.

Sydney AFL have adopted this model and works ok for them.

Pluses:
Teams generally play in a competition suited to their level.
New teams and/or additional grade teams aren't thrown in the deep end.

Minus:
Away rounds can see teams playing all over Sydney, hard on volunteers and finding reserves.

I think the strength of rugby and particularly subbies rugby, is that you belong to a club and play for a club rather than a team.
So on balance we stay with what we have got, with some tweaking of the numbers per division (cue Pftizy) and accept that we always will have the odd team/grade either too strong or too weak.

Wow! Fuck! Really? Beecroft won all their shit? Well who expected that?

Surprised Harlequins didn't get closer to your First Grade though.

The Briars 2nd grade results smells might fucking funny to me. No way could that useless showed of bastards put on that many points against Canterbury when they could barely get over us with a scoreline that flattered them.

Meanwhile in 3rd Div, the strain of having three teams in the finals saw Redfield OB lose all three games. Their 3rds are now out but their top 2 grades will be giving it to Waverley next week at Millner.

Waverley will be keen to get all four of their games won next weekend to cement their status as an aspiring 2nd Div club, and @barbarian 's Kings OB 4th Grade rolls on.

Yeah our firsts really stood up got a few to come back in next week.

Canterbury were 22-0 up then got 2 red cards apparently.

Funny that - when you get actual officials out onto the park, how little shit people get away with. I stuck my flag out a few times at Wills Ground last week but the bloke reffing First Grade didn't want to know about it, until the Canterbury #9 started abusing me.

I love how there is so much 'apparently' and second hand bitching going on about beecroft here. We didn't choose 4th div, subbies did. If you want to have a whinge at least come to the games so you have something to go off not second hand information.

Yeah only one win away now. Was a bit closer than the scoreline suggested, 10-8 to us with 15 to play. But we scored a breakaway try and kicked our goals to win it.

But we've lost the last two GFs so can't get carried away yet. Plenty more work to do.

I was at Headen Park when Rouse Hill played you. At one point I was talking to some Beecroft people near their tent, and remarked that the club must be pissed off they get dropped three divisions. This was the answer:

"Nah had to happen, mate. Our first Grade are good but after that it drops off a fair bit. We were in a mess".

This was just after Beecroft 2s had deservedly beaten my team 41-blot, and were undefeated at that point in the season with an average winning margin of around 33 from memory.

Now, there is nothing wrong with being successful, and clearly the fitness and teamwork of The 'Croft is something to be admired and emulated.

But don't fucking cry poor when you've dropped only 4 games out of 45 all season, finished minor premiers doing it, and won the club championship by a couple of clear rounds. Not to mention fielding Colts AND 10 rounds of Halligan cup out of 14 when other clubs are struggling just to stay in Third Division.

Subbies may have chosen where you ended up, but I'll fucking bet your lot didn't fight it with anything resembling a bit of ticker.

As beecroft was struggling to field 3 teams by the end of last season there was not many options for the club.

Many teams struggle with numbers at the end of the season. That's why Subbies don't finalise anything until the next year.

So the pre-season numbers all pointed to being "competitive" in 4th Div? And not much more?

Are you telling me that, with 3 Grade sides winning minor premierships, and Halligans running 10 weeks of 14, that outcome is justified?

You blokes are having a laugh. I've been at a club that actually knows what "struggle" looks like.

re Beecroft: hindsight is a marvellous thing. Really hard to predict how a season will look in February, regardless of how good numbers at training are.

Not sure you can get stuck into them too much. Yeah they could have fought Subbies grading of them, but why would they?? Clearly their move to 4th div has been in the best interests of the club.

The fault lies with Subbies, who have made a rod for their own back. Plenty of other clubs will now be trying to voluntarily drop 2-3 divisions to do exactly what Beecroft has done, rather than bleed out slowly over 5 years like Briars, St Ives, Kings OB, Hornsby etc.

Have you done the AR1 course?

Abusing officials is not cool.

Yep. AR1 qualified until end of next year from memory. Did the online refresher this year. Ref did not want to know

Any ideas on how to salvage semi finals creditibility in subbies. To see 1st graders running around in 2s and 3s impacting scorelines and sending 'real' teams who have played together all year out is very dispiriting.

Stacking back is a blight, but if they're meeting the qualification periods then what can you do?

A mate of mine saw this happening to us in 5th Division a few years back. He does dragonboating as his club sport, and every participant - including club members, is supposed to carry their competition-organised photo id with them at events at all times.

Let's face it, ground marshal is a fairly loosely applied science in Subbies. If they're serious about it, then the competition rules need to change in order to have an official table where all teams are viewed and approved (as at finals time) and then the qualification rules need to be changed from the current system.

Ultimately it comes down to starts across the season for me. Once a team starts to get toward qualification they start playing merry hell with the 7-game rule.

Everyone does it - even us - getting players to start a lower grade, bust for 10 minutes, then go sit on the First Grade bench. Just in case.
