I am sure it will be just as exaggerated as it was this year - but i hope we get half of the players (3-5 in every age group) I have heard linked to the school we will win everything!!! - bar firsts of course you cant buy that title ;-)
Ah.......My old pal BAG......as regular as prune juice :)

And that 3 to 5 in every age group is a compounding factor ( year on year ) - maybs not for the glorious 14's this year but certainly the case for next year's 13's and 14's - and to say different is denial or dishonesty

Like I said to you some time ago m'man .......you can't get a little bit pregnant

In for a penny in for a pounding

Well we nearly pulled it off this year (U14) with the addition of just one lad compared to 2-3 from the pace setters in 2014, so imagine what we can do with a additional, what is it now, 5 or 6. lol
Probs still 4th whilst pissing off those perched securely on their high horse upon the moral high ground

I am on record as being pro recruitment in the younger (intake) age groups, less so in 16's and opens, so I am more than happy with what GT is up to at present - just get a giggle out of the all the exaggeration that goes on.

When the teams are announced for round 1 next year I will honestly and openly inform you all of exactly how many new boys are in each team from 14-0pen - 12's and 13's will be harder to monitor of course as the school will more than double in size in these age groups next year as they did this year so I would expect plenty of new boys in these teams.

Nothing to hide happy to deal in reality and facts ;-)

It would've been good if the schoolboys & barbarians had a run against each other 2-3 weeks prior the tournament. I know it could have caused problems with injuries but both sides could have formed combinations and coaches can see what's needed ahead of time, the players would know how much they need to step up going into tri series. Thats my opinion

Quote of the year "and we will win everything!". Why do you guys continue talking like this? Just start winning and then jump on the forum and have a brag. I know it has been a long time between drinks but boosting that GT going to recruit 3-5 players per team and win everything can't be good for the school.

My top three backs and three forwards from this years Qld GPS comp and by far the best in their respective positions would be - Hoopert (1), Hewat (8), Farrell (7) Croft (10), Sua (12), Ngamanu (15). Ngamanu wasn't as consistent as the others, but the danger man for his team most weeks. I was also impressed by Harry Hockings for Churchie and see he is in the Aus squad. Im not crying (don't think you were either), but B&W im with you - the fact Croft and Sua will not be there against the kiwis is disappointing. If trials were held after our GPS comp (and chosen from the form from our comp), then maybe all of the best GPS schoolboys would be suiting up. But that's an old argument that will be there again next year also.

Been away making sure young "Willie" is ready to play against Fiji in RWC
What a great finish to GPS season. I can tell you that the Qld comp is a lot more exciting than NSW comp which is a 2 school race for last 5 years and will not change.
Having been in NSW I can tell you that the aussie schools teams will look a fair bit different to the ones selected. I think at least 2 boys have gone to NRL and a number injuries as well. I see there a number injuries to Qld players as well.

Cant see this years team being as strong as the brilliant team that won in NZ in 2013 but I will be out at Ballymore to cheer them on.
I hope young Ikatau is fit in time- he hardly played any GPS but was very strong at Nationals and never stops smiling.

I'm going to have to agree with sage that the 13s and 14s are a lot more insignificant in the long term then people might think. Take this years churchie team who were mid table for 13s, 14s, 15s and I'm not sure about 16s. Even looking at BBCs team this year who had 9 Queensland schoolboys or whatever it was but came dead last in 13s and 14s and then ended up winning it in 15s. In the past 15s has been the best place to look when predicting future succes despite all the disruptions however I do see a trend that kids are being recruited from a far younger age these days so the others may be right.

In the 13 and 14 age groups you have the greatest disparity in size as kids develop at different rates and age. So I have found over time large individuals who have sensational skills can carry a team to a very good season.

By the time you get to 15's things start to even up and I believe teams that start to play together and are well structured start coming through in the results. While individuals still stand out they need the team to support them to do so. Also many of the stars in previous years come back to the pack and are no longer as dominant. Many of these have trouble adapting as they have never had to fight to dominate, it has come easily and some have not developed a work ethic which would help them adapt.

So by time you get to Open school age group it comes down to the team but I have found those with the best front rows and flyhalf are the best indicators towards a premiership team.

I love hearing about the younger age groups and the skill levels being shown but feel it is now not a good predictor of future results. This years NC Open team were undefeated in 13's and 14's and seemed indestructible at the time. This years u15 NC team were so far in front of all other teams in last couple of years that no one saw two defeats coming their way this year.

So I am also agreeing with above and also saying I enjoy hearing about all ages and tracking the development and changes as they come through.

Well said, as a number of coaches have said to me over the years, its the little kids (yet to develop) that hold their own and can take it to the bigger kids , are the ones you need to keep a eye on.

Is this the right thread for commentary on the "Emerging reds" program, that's currently being run? Just interested in understanding how participants are being selected and what the criteria is if anyone knows? is this a legit pathway or another QRU/ARU money spinner?

I have heard from a Terrace parent that the 13s next year will have some very good kids injected into the school, a couple from this years Met North and City team. Not sure if this age group needs anymore but I hear they are very good.

I hope they are covering a few other topics at the Brothers Info night like:

"Coping with being called The Filth for the rest of your playing days"

"Learning how to make the most cutting, smart arse comments from the sideline and then avoiding the fight Presentation"

"Pathway to being a pain in the arse to every referee who blew a whistle presentation"

Just jokes Brothers - but you did put the post up!

you referencing - this years 12s or this years 13s? by all accounts the Terrace 12s were very strong this year anyway.
But I am sure there will be additions in all schools in these age groups that's a given

Sorry I was referring to this years 12s, 13s next year. I believe the 12s backline in particular the 2 centres were the stars, the kids I was told about are forwards. You are right with a massive intake next year the teams will no doubt change.

Selected players must have been selected and participated in the Junior Gold Cup.

Great thanks for the heads up...A friend of mine who's boy is taking part, was surprised by how many "Selected" boys do not play Union at all and did not participate in the JGC this year, so I was just wondering what the criteria actually was in fact he tells me some good players who did play JGC this year missed out on taking part, that's how it goes I guess. Anyone know anymore about this as it sounds like something my son might be interested in if hes selected in JGC this year
