Nice centuries from Burns and Khwaja. Should both now be in the squad for the Brisbane test. S Marsh is also probably safe after topping the Matador cup runs list. Not sure I like the idea of all 3 in the test side at this stage but not sure there is much option.

Thoughts on S.Marsh?

I don't get why he is constantly referred to as a 'long term' opening option? He's 32 with a test average of 33.11 and a domestic average of 38.64. Am i missing something here?

He's had ample opportunity to prove himself at test level, but has never really done so.

Burns and Khwaga should play.

I'd,like to see the batting lineup:

Warner
Bancroft
Khwaga
Smith
Burns
M Marsh
Nevill

For the bowlers Johnson and Lyon are in. Then it comes down to whether or not we go with two left armers - I've never really liked it, but Starc has bowled well.

100% agree, on Marsh not taking his opportunities and giving Bancroft a go. However, Burns has been playing at opener hasn't he? I saw Rogers endorsed Burns as his replacement and said Bancroft should stay at domestic a little while to show his form isn't a one off. We occasionally do have a tendency to rush young players into the test arena before they're ready.

2 left armers isn't ideal but Starc has made himself unstoppable in the matador cup. He needs to finally stand up a little in the test arena though and hopefully he can carry this form on throughout the summer. I'd like to see Pattinson back in the fold.

Much depends on where Smith sees himself batting. Lehmann and co have been talking about Bancroft as an opener, so I've assumed that that's where they will pick him.

Fair enough, i'm happy to back him in if that's where he goes. I see Smith more of a 4 anyway and let Khawaja bat at 3 as it's his specialty. There was lot of talk last summer when Burns was at 6 about him getting too nervous in the sheds to bat well when he finally came on. But if he's not opening then he can only realistically come in at 5 at best.

You think this Fekete bloke will get a run?

I'd like to see Maddinson and Lynn given a chance in the batting lineup. If they were told they were in for the whole season as Steve Waugh suggests, I think they would both blossom. Maybe Burns to open and imo Khwarja has been given as many chances as Shaun Marsh. So, maybe:

Warner
Burns
Maddinson
Smith
Lynn
M Marsh.

Neville to keep wickets, and the bowlers just about pick themselves:

(in batting order)

Starc
Johnson
Hazelwood
Lyon.

In the mix would also be Faulkner, Maxwell and Coulter-Nile as all-rounders.

Maddinson and Lynn have a big opportunity to put their hands up this year. Both are very talented and seem to be maturing into fine players. Bracket them with Burns and Bancroft (as well as my personal favourite Ferguson) and I think we've got a pretty good next generation line up in the making. Over to you, boys.

EDIT: Any word on how long Lynn is out for, BTW?

He'll be out for another 304 weeks i believe. He initially got told 8 weeks in mid/late Sept. A shame he missed the Matador Cup.

Klinger got a double ton for WA today. Cat among the pigeons? Maybe missed the boat, but his last couple of seasons have been pretty phenomenal with the bat.

CA XI openers in unbroken 376-run stand as NZ labours in final pre-Test hit-out

Aaron Finch scored his maiden first-class double hundred as he and Ryan Carters put a significant dent in New Zealand's Test preparations on Thursday in their three-day tour match in Sydney.
