My michelin Krylion carbon tyres gave up the ghost this morning.
Since they no longer make them I threw myself on the mercy of a couple of bike shops to be told conflicting version of what is best.
My primary aim is to avoid punctures.
I was told to forget innertape - tape between the tyre and the tube, although this is the setup I have had for a couple of years with no punctures.
700 X 25C.
Advice?

What is this tape protection of which you speak?
The rubber on my rear wheel pretty much de laminated the other day when it was hot,so I'm also looking at replacement options now.

i'm on the Maxxis Refuse's. i asked for the toughest tyres they sold at the bike shop. they are heavier but are bullet proof.

Did you get the 25mm version. The wider ones have less resistance and you dont need to put as much pressure so you get a softer ride thrown in the bargain.

I replaced my Conty 4000's with Mavic Yksion Pro. The Conty tyres a very good for puncture resistance which is just as well because they are a bugger to get on and off as the bead is very tight.

Just read that my Specialized trigger tyres are 2bliss ready. Is it worth mucking around going tubeless?

The Conti's are pretty stiff to begin with, but become more pliable over time. Once they're broken in I can use my bare hands to get them on and off a lot of the time.

I tried it with some hutchisons - all fine until you do get a puncture or a cut and then there is no end to the mess that comes out of the tyres.

I've always liked Conti Gatorskins. I've got a couple of Schwalbe Marathons in the shed. They're pretty piggy to ride on but are literally bomb proof. I'd confidently ride over tacks and glass.
