Ideas for NRC

Those alignments won't last either. Get rid of the club involvements directly. Doesn't work, too many people with giant heads.

Wow. Two of the remaining NSW franchises appear to be strengthened by this rationalisation while the Rams will be potentially weakened if the Woodies aligned players move to the Rays.

As @RugbyFuture suggests, it may be time to ditch the Sydney Premier Clubs involvement/alignment, but with the Tahs seemingly disinterested, it will remain a rather chaotic environment.

At least The Bye is gone.

Unfortunate for the stars, who really turned it around, the poor first season combined with Uni going it more or less alone did spell doom.

Should seriously help the talent though, if the Rams manage to get their fair share of Tahs and club players. It'll eliminate 2 rounds as well with 1 fewer game and no bye necessary, greater timing alignment with the NPC will be good. Maybe they'll delay it by one week, so there's more time for players to train in squads, then finish the same week as the other 2 comps.

I think Adelaide should still be a goal for the NRC in the next 5 years. Even get SA teams in a Premier Comp somewhere. Also, would the idea of having an Indigenous XV in the comp have merit? Just an idea, with the success of the IAIR tours, seems as if there is talent that could be nurtured further and it could give an object of pride for the Indigenous people involved with Australian rugby.

Let 's hope that changes of team identity slow right down. A very important factor in the survival of the NRC is that viewers become supporters. Hopefully even members, of a particular franchise.

That will not happen if the team identities keep changing.

I enjoyed my time following the Stars and loved rugby at Leichardt Oval.

Cant see myself changing loyalty for NSW Country so imagine my attempt to get more closely involved with local(ish) rugby is over. Probably revert to my State of Origin with City and (Qld) Country.

No doubt NSW NRC needed massaging. For me just a disappointing way gor it to have gone.

Also agree that each Franchise should be aligned to two NRC teams. Dont have a problem with NSW Country aligned to Brumbies. Both Country teams need to be that. Eg Qld Country should be playing at Emerald, Townsville, not Gold Coast, Toowoomba.

Mate, the Stars may have gone but the Rams are still charging along. We could do with new fans. Why not jump aboard and see where it leads you.

I actually like the idea of an Adelaide team popping up in the likes of the Shute Shield. Provided they could find the money. I think considering the size of the Rugby community in Adelaide .i.e. number of teams etc. that would be a good level for them to compete at. It would also make for a nice bit of continuity for the boys in their JGC squads.

The reality is these guys live in Brisbane - and a lot of them have regular jobs there too.

Lot easier to jump in a car and sleep in your own bed and also not have to deal with the additional costs and hassles of airlines to smaller centres. And that's not even considering the smaller population/gates

adelaide team aligned with force and rebels backed by locals who were willing to back it would work better.

Are you talking about a team in the NRC or Club Rugby?

Because at this present time while I support more opportunity for players I seriously doubt Adelaide could present a competitive locallt sourced NRC squad. I think giving them some time to develop in the likes of the Shute Shield, Brisbane Comp or even the John Dent comp would suit their standards better.once they became competitive, hell maybe if they even win it then yes, start looking seriously at moving them up the chain.

So Souths going to the Rays? Forget geographically the issues, how on earth do the Rams survive? Wests, Penrith and Parramatta..?

NRC. It mightn't be viable but none of the NRC teams are if you look at their books, the country eagles showed that you could drag people from relative obscurity to play substantial football and with the significant support of a well formulated structure involving the force and rebels could help contribute to those two teams struggling at the super rugby level. the SA rugby union would be wholly supportive and from what I understand could find someone interested in "owning" the team for at least a little while.

The NRC is still at a start and its the opportunity to involve a low cost entry from the start which could be more viable in the future.

Reasons SA won't have a team:
-Cost
-Lack of players

Spot on.

Look at the Canberra Club Competition, and how long it has been going in a City that likes its rugby, and has had a Super Rugby franchise for several decades.

I agree that the ACT Club Rep team would be at a very high standard, as proved when the Kookaburras played in Shute Shield, and QPR a while back.

Spread those Kookaburra Rep level players back to clubland, and how does the average Canberra Club team compare with the Average Shute Shield or QPR team.

Despite being in a rugby town, with its own successful Super Franchise, the Brumbies as a Super Team, and the Canberra Vikings (some would also chuck the Tuggeranong Vikings in as well) still rely on a moderate level of non-ACT born and bred players for their competitiveness.

If Canberra is struggling to produce homegrown product to feed a Super Team, and an NRC team, then what hope has Adelaide got, and how long is it going to take them to get their grass roots clubs up to a competitive level?

A total collapse of AFL is about the only thing that would make Adelaide/SA Rugby competitive, and even then it would take quite a few years after the complete destruction of that virus called AFL from our sporting landscape for that to happen.

The likelihood of the necessary complete and utter collapse of AFL is about the same as that of yours truly occupying The Lodge as the PM of Oz.
