Aaaaargh, just when the Force look like they have found some attacking chutzpah for the first time in 5 years, the bloke who is probably largely responsible for it tears a tit muscle. With Jono Lance out for the season (haven't yet seen this confirmed from the Force?), we'll finally see how deep the commitment is from the Force to playing attacking rugby.

Peter Grant you would expect will come straight into 10.

The combination that Lance has with Morahan has been revolutionary for the a Force attack. It's now time for Morahan to stand up and prove he can keep the form going playing with a different flyhalf.

For the Canes, the loss of Milner Skudder is huge. The one area they seem vulnerable at the moment is their rookie centres pairing. But the Force has a new combination as well, so probably not much opportunity to exploit it.

Arguably it could be said that their lock pairing has had as much of an impact on their team. They badly miss the impetus that Broadhurst and Thrush provided in the loose and at the lineout.

Milner-Skudder dislocated his shoulder and is ruled out for the rest of the season. Bad news for the Canes

3 scrumhalfs in the lineup, one of them will be covering at 10. Back row is the strongest its been all season.

I know Mafi is leaving but surely he has to start over RHP? You put your best team out to win games, not develop for next year unless you're out of finals contention imo.

Mafi doesnt look close to being fit, seemed really sluggish, especially compared to last season.

Actually Palmy North, as well as being NZ's windiest city, is also our second-best varsity city & the bogans will come from all directions - from Ohigniti & Utiku, Norsewood & Waipukurau, and, yes, even Tokomaru & Shannon - for it. Plus the pre- & post-match piss-ups, of course. Not necessarily in that order, tho :)

Lest we forget, Palmy North is also where Super Rugby began back in '96:

And, yes, I was there, along with ~40 fellow Levin Cosmopolitan Club members & ~18K non-members :)

I thought Mark Abbott had been pretty good in the first few games. Broadhurst is still in the squad, but assuming he has an injury?

It now seems Lance is only out for 6 weeks, which puts him back in the picture for the last half of the season. Phew.

Bookies have the Force at over 6-1. Considering the two teams it is very hard not to take those odds. 3 or 4 to 1 you could understand but 6 says it is a forgone conclusion. I wouldnt say it was based on the Canes' form.

Shame Mozza is out with foot soreness. Really need that try scoring strike power. This is it....this is the week for Masirewsa to nail that first try....it is his density!

Hurricanes vs. Force (#HURvFOR), 17:35 (AEDT) Friday March 18th:
Fast fact: The first 53 Western Force points scored this year came from former Reds players; Jono Lance (34), Luke Morahan (10), Ben Tapuai (5) and Ian Prior (2). Peter Grant’s 67th minute conversion of Tapuai’s try last week broke the cycle.
Only Dane Haylett-Petty and Tapuai have played every minute for the Force so far this season (240), with only 8 Force players having started all 3 games of their campaign in contrast to the Hurricanes’ 13.
Haylett-Petty has the 2nd most carries of any back in the competition thus far with 37, and more metres gained than any other player with 260 as well as beating defenders 13 times for good measure! His Captain, Matt Hodgson, has made more tackles than anybody else in the competition (51 at 94%), while Adam Coleman has won 20 lineouts thus far in 2016 to top the Australian count in that category.
The Hurricanes were victorious last time these teams met at this venue in 2011, with 18 points to former Force & Wallabies star Cameron Shepherd not enough to avoid a 34-28 defeat. Both teams head into this content with 1-2 records; this is the first of three straight games in New Zealand for the Force, all against finalists from last year (Hurricanes, Chiefs and Highlanders).
