Sources tell me that it wasn't Alec who received the injury on Saturday (in fact Alec went on to run riot with 3 tries playing at 12 for grammar), rather it was his partner in crime, the grammar 13 (his name evades me) but he's been having a blinder of a season and it will be a shame to see him on the sidelines for a period of time.

Stayed back a bit after the game to have a chat with the Grammar parents. Parents are reluctant on him putting the boots on again after what happened but if things go well he'll be back for the Joeys game later in the term

Will his absence harm grammar 1sts?

Yes.
They lost their 9 in or around the first ruck with a spiral fracture of the ankle.
They've lost their 16s 10 for 9 months who probably would have been in the frame by now, they had another 9 walk out on them in camp, they have a 13 sitting out the season because he has made the world youth rowing championships.
Still, this game reveals character as much as it makes it.

So is the back up 9 that is left any good? and what about the now vacant 13 spot, (albeit temporary) do you know who could fill in there, sources tell me potentially a youngen from the 16s?

You're spot on with the your impression from the highlights. But thankfully our game is not determined by subjective points awarded by anonymous judges - like synchronised swimming, for instance - so the better team does not always win.

As for your second point:
  • the View boys did not return their backs on SJC they were swamped by their school mates so don't run down the players
  • In a sense it is the ultimate compliment to SJC - hell you'd think SIC had actually won the HOTR they way they carried on. I played in a 1st XV that beat SJC at Hunters Hill 38 years ago and its still a topic of conversation and not just amongst those who played - and thats because it is something that is never easy to do.
And while Im at it Im going to give the SJC #7 in 2nds a huge wrap: on full time rather than shaking hand etc he notice a SIC boy injured on his 22 about 30m away and went over to him to make sure he was OK - great sportsmanship

Grammar 1st xv 1978??
I knew andy graham from that side.

I'm not gonna lie, Joe Ireland is an extremely fit player who's able to get to the breakdown fast and efficiently while crafting some creative plays on the go. Despite Comino having a better pass as well as knowledge for the game, I think Joe will be able to fit in fine with adequate training with the team. As with this mystery 13, I have no clue and am gonna have to find out at Armidale this weekend

Put your TOP 3 overall tips in as well.

I'm going to say ENI

Also feel free to put a bit of commentary with your tips. I am a bit interested to know why so many are tipping Kings over Scots. Especially after Scots won 3 grades 2 weeks in a row.

A bit of commentary for you Not in Straight.
As a Scots parent I watched the 1st through 3rd games against Kings and Shore.
Scots were clearly dominant over Kings in the 2nds and 3rds. Hard to believe that much can change in a fortnight. In the first half of the first XV game Scots were all at sea and Kings took advantage although they were far from convincing. In the second half Scots were in control and on that basis it's hard to see any other result this weekend (although Azzuri will clearly disagree!)
Scots are yet to settle down, they see-saw from playing exceptional running rugby to making basic mistakes and putting themselves under pressure. If they can consistently achieve the former they are genuine contenders again.
This weekend will be most telling.
Seeing Shore last weekend it should be smooth sailing for the boys from Joeys in both grades. I haven't seen Joeys yet this year but their results against a strong Riverview line up suggest it is more of the same from Hunters Hill. Talented teams that are well prepared and fiercely competitive.
I'm not sure what is going on at Newington but a loss at home to the Kings team that I saw suggests they have fallen away from last years standards, so my tips go to Riverview in the firsts and seconds.
In the 3rd XV comp I have limited knowledge of the teams outside of the GPS six and rely largely on what I read in this forum.
Good luck to all, may we have another closely fought set of matches this weekend.
