But if i was him i would be consolidating on yesterdays gain

Honestly, I doubt Froome will have the legs to go off on his own today after his recent attacks. However I won't write him off completely because he did win the last time we climbed Ventoux (in 2013).

Perhaps this is his favoured stage?

Quintana is looking very good at this stage. I will go for a far fetched bet and place him as my favourite to take out this stage at his early point in the race.

Yates is also in with a real shot and he needs to make time on a day like today. He's a pure climber and needs a buffer before we hit the ITT.

This breakaway won't last...

I wouldn't be too certain about that. It is a 13 man breakaway, perhaps if they cooperate well they can get something out of this.

Interesting move from the Astana team, very risky perhaps they will gain a penalty at the end of the stage.

Some problems for Sky, Gerro crashed. The breakaway is being hammered by the wind and they're not even on Ventoux yet. I worry that the last few kilometres will be heinous with the wind.

Well that was a clusterfuck. Quintana bonks like a mofo and now is minutes ahead of Froome.

Heartening to see Richie Porte looking strong though. If he hadn't had the mechanical TJ would be riding for him.

Absolutely ridiculous finish, not something we should see in professional cycling.

Charger - 100% correct. Quintana was very disappointing and Porte was really hitting his form. I think we would have seen Porte and Froome work together (like old times) and put a serious margin on Quintana. But instead we got a shitstorm that will no doubt be remembered.

I'm guessing Froome and Porte will take Mollema's time, but we'll see.

Might I add that this would not have occurred had they not shortened the stage. Doing so forced spectators to pack in more tightly and they had no barriers which is probably the reason why the motorbike had to stop. The tour organisers will not hear the end of this one....

Mavic are brave to put their name on the neutral service.

Every time they have a role to play they seem to stuff it up.

If you look at the video from the motor bike it appears that it does an "endo"; looks like contact with the bike on the left side then the rear end jumps up. Also reports on twitter is that a spectator fell over / in to the motor bike, thus the sudden stop.

As for times, Froome, Porte, Mollema should get the same time, but IMHO Froome should be penalsed for ditching his bike and running which every rider knows is is illegal.

He will be effectively asking for (expecting) special treatment while other riders like Porte will suffer for doing the right thing and waiting to fix his bike.

Lol! I was reading an article not long ago about the equipment teams use, and it focused on the risk if you don't have compatible gear like pedal clips with the "neutral" gear then its at your peril.

Yeah I don't think anyone is going to blame the motorbike. A life's worth more than a bike race. But the organisers are in for an ass kicking for too short a barrier run.

I don't think you can penalise Froome. You either say the race was effectively over when the incident occurred, and whatever he did after that has no effect or you keep the entire result and penalise him again on top of the time lost. Which would be might harsh IMO. I like Castles idea, Richie and Froome get Mollema's line time. Seems the fairest way all round.

Richie's tyre change on stage 2 was a Mavic job too. 90 seconds to swap a rear out is embarrassing.

Did you not see the tv footage of the spectator trying his best to drag his bike and himself across the top but was being repeatedly blown backwards. Had to have two or three other people come to his aid to combat the wind.

Had the race continued to the top the organisers would have been in heaps more trouble.
