I am disappointed but lucky for the Reds a guy like me will renew his membership and still support no matter what.

I consider the Reds to be a Franchise based in Brisbane, not a QLD rep side so I do not see the relevance of QLD DNA.

What does this even mean? Given the number of games QC (Quade Cooper) has played for the Reds does he have QLD DNA from New Zealand? What about Goromaru?

I hope for the best but am still skeptical that a coach who has been at the team can make the changes to get the best out of the talent pool.

I think that a fair percentage of the current team have under performed compared to their potential. If Stiles has permitted this attitude this year how will it change next year?

He either starts massive changes that will get the team offside as he will show that he is not consistent or he is satisfied with what he has achieved and we do not improve.

With Smith and Moore coming you don't want the team upset at the coach or we might have a Brumbies player power issue.

I think we needed an experienced take no shit coach to come in an instill discipline, if you drop a ball then there is a penalty, if you are not fit enough there is a penalty, if you miss touch with a kick there is a penalty, if you give away a stupid penalty there are consequences.

I do not see how a current coach can make changes and keep the team onside.

This is the second time you've made this comment. We don't want your slops. Fuck off. The Force can't afford another few years of mediocrity. We need an experienced HC who has had success at the top level. (Rant over - as you were.)

Fair call, but I think you've misunderstood me a bit. It's not about giving the Force the slops, I'm starting with the assumption that MOC is a capable coach (as evidenced by his career overseas and all the good things the players have said about him) who for whatever reason wasn't working out at the Reds.

I'd love for the Force to have an experienced HC with a track record of success (which, ironically, MOC is both, certainly moreso than Stiles) but unfortunately such coaches are few and far between and the Force are a bit of a blank canvas that someone like MOC could prove he's a coach who can get Leicester results, not Reds results.

I take your point about the Force not having time to spare on another experiment like that though. MOC to the Force would be rolling the dice. Might get a Link, might get a Graham.

(apologies for making the comment twice - I sometimes forget whether I have actually posted or only thought about posting!)

Although the QRU are dishing more spin on this decison than Warne could on Day 5 at the SCG, the silver lining on this decision is the departure of MOC from the Reds. Feel sorry for the Force fans, players and anyone who stumbles across a Force match on Foxtel in 2017 if they make this commitment.

Jokes aside, this is a team that went 3-1-11 (?) this year, it remains to be seen how much control Stiles had, and now with full reigns, what changes can be implemented. Naturally as a former prop, Stiles specialty is the scrum. How many former props are great attacking tacticians or strategists? The support staff here will be as important as the HC hiring if the Reds want to double production and win at least 6 games.

I can't agree and once again you have added your own spin to what others have said by suggesting people don't think he should be considered because he is a QLDer. I said a couple of pages ago that I was happy that Stiles got the job and thought he wasn't the worst option. So please stop trying to speak for others and actually read what people have said.

After the mess of RG the board needed to erase every perception that the process wasn't completely transparent, above board and the best candidate got the job. That comment fails in that regard. I don't doubt he got the job on merit and they believe him to be the best. Which is why i find the comment about understanding the DNA of Qld rugby completely unnecessary and a poor look after RG was reappointed last year. Understanding DNA of an areas rugby is completely irrelevant to having success.

Spin ? You are kidding - reread your own stuff.

Just think you are way off the mark

Wasn't McKenzie a former prop. He was a great tactician.

IMO, the suggested Gilmore move is premature. He should prove himself as say HC of the national U20s first.

The assistants will be interesting. For two years we have had global searches appoint people already in the system, I doubt they will look outside ballymore for the assistants.

Gilmore has built a career via recruiting talent (often using his Aus schoolboys selector gig as leverage). He has had limited success when he doesn't have dispropriate talent or resources (he's had limited success with them too).

By the same logic that his time with Brisbane City is enough to appoint Stiles, surely anyone associated with Country (eg Gilmore and Thompson) can't be appointed.

What's interesting is that all the blame for the last 3 years seems to rest with Graham. They've endorsed Stiles as a coach capable of delivering a title and Herbert and Cordingley as creating a program and roster to deliver it.

So what's the pass mark for 2017?

MOC copped a lot of flack about his coaching expertise and success record in the places where he worked.

For me, making the finals would be a Credit, winning the thing a High Distinction.
a Pass, coming mid field and building for the year after.

The Herbert comment has attracted considerable angst. Can I suggest that this angst should be more properly directed against Herbert. The quote suggests that he himself, not Stiles, is the one who is obsessively focused on QLD first. For all we know, Stiles read the quote and cringed immediately.

In his defence, Herbert is not the only QLDer to have a QLD first mentality. It seems to be part of the QLD DNA. Why that paragon of political virtue, Joh Bjelke-Petersen, was fond of suggesting that nothing any good ever came from south of the border.

If only the Reds still had a bicameral board of directors.

I though the tactician was more about Chook Fowler? Still, We are seeing some fantastic coaches out of the front row.

It's more just mostly ex-forwards, e.g. Cheika (number 8), Eddie Jones (hooker), and obviously Link (prop)

Ah Sir Joh a wonderful public servant for the wonderful people of the great State of Queensland, a man without fear or favour, a man with conviction (although never actually convicted), a man who often stated pearls of wisdom - aah the good old days:):):)

With the pretty good recruitment the Reds have done, I am quite surprised they made do with a pretty inexperienced head coach

The Reds look like a side crying out for a leader

As a Tahs supporter I am happy to see they haven't
