There goes any crowd support for DIV 2 clubs. I get the circumstances around field availability but you couldn't have chosen a worse destination if you'd tried.

Subbies don't have a lot of choice when fields for finals for Div 2, 3 and 4 are all closed. They have been desperately searching for any fields they can find.

What are you talking about? Only a 20 minute drive! :)

Now c'mon Pfitzy. How are the NSWRU people, let alone any ARU Numpty's supposed to find there way out there.....let alone bring a case of the Moet with them.

You really don't understand the difficulties being faced by the rugby administrators these days :p

Penalty handed down to Lindfield for their breach of the amateur status has been made public and it is huge.
Straight from the Subbies website:
The NSWSRU Integrity Committee last night found Lindfield RFC guilty of paying a player.
The Integrity Committee made a number of recommendations to the Board, and the Board has today ratified those recommendations:
  • Player Tala Moli be de-registered from Suburban Rugby for 5 years
  • Lindfield Recruitment Manager, Pat Lang, be prohibited from holding any on or off field position in Suburban Rugby for life
  • Lindfield 1st grade coach, Adam Coughlan, be prohibited from holding any on or off field position in Suburban Rugby for 5 years
  • Lindfield RFC be expelled from all 2016 competitions, effective immediately.
  • Lindfield RFC’s 2017 application for affiliation be reviewed and only accepted under the following conditions –
  1. Graded no higher than 2nd Div.
  2. Regardless of the division Lindfield are graded in, each Lindfield team will begin the 2017 season with -10 points, with the club penalised the commensurate club championship points.
  3. Placed on a $10K bond for a period of 5 years, reviewed annually. The bond would be forfeited if the club or any of its members are found guilty of breaching the player registration rules and/or the Union’s amateur status.
  4. The Union’s Board to have the final say in the makeup of the club’s committee.

The Subbies Board and the Integrity Committee are extremely disappointed to have to take such harsh measures. However, they are determined to stamp out payment of players in Subbies Rugby and want to make it loud and clear to all Subbies clubs –
If you are caught paying players the consequences for your club will be dire.

*If*. Heh.

Pretty hard to police that.

What about if a former Shute Shield ring-in is the coach's son? Could you possibly trace payments? And the son's mates?

Lindfield deserve their punishment, but they're unlucky to be the only ones dumb enough to be caught.

This is massive. They had made quite a good fist of first division this season.

So they can't be in div 1 next season, and they start all grades on -10 next season. How many players will want to stick around?????

If they have any brains, the club will also ban those individuals for life, regardless of the penalties handed down by subbies. Mind you, that might depend on how much the rest of the club knew about it.

It's a tough one. Given falling numbers across all divisions, can Subbies really afford to hand down such tough penalties, as they have done to Lindfield and Rouse Hill in the last two weeks?

I'm all for punishing those who break the rules, but I am really uneasy with Subbies smashing whole clubs for the sins of a few.

It just drives more people away from the game, which is the last thing we need to be doing right now.

Yes appears subbies are now intent on destroying the club. Harsh start to next season will players exit in droves. They might drop to 3rd Div leaving 3 clubs having to come up from Div 3 to fill the gaps.
