Looked a little bit more than a "few scuffles" from the other side of the ground and when young kids see a bunch of pissed blokes beating the shit out of each other and police having to respond with pepper spray to break things up (as some have reported), not quite the image of the game we want them to have.

And then more "scuffles" in the welcome line as the players came out of the tunnel for the main fixture. Pretty ordinary all round really and a sad blight on what was otherwise a fantastic afternoon.

For the reserve fixture I Was the first Randwick 'supporter' to join the already Easts filled tunnel as our supporters bus arrived a little behind schedule. Once the Wicks supporters finally arrived there was a bit of banter between the Easts boys and the Wicks but all very entertaining. However the blight in the afternoon began when a prominent well known Easts player with a very important father in the rugby community started swigging beer from his plastic glass and spitting on the Randwick reserve grade players in the tunnel as they ran out onto the field. This was the catalyst that created the first scuffle and the few other 'hand bags at dawn thereafter'. Seriously who spits beer on players running out onto a field. I have 5 kids and would disown any one of them if they ever did that.

Only takes one idiot to spoil it for the masses, and in all honesty, all clubs have at least one idiot who is capable of behaving like a complete donkey with some brown fighting juice on board.

Sorry Jarse, have to disagree. I didn't see anyone else that day spitting beer on players in the tunnel as they ran out, nor have I ever seen anything like it. Rather than make sweeping statements lets focus on what actually happened here. A bloke spitting on rugby players who's parent runs the sport in Australia. This isn't a case of Old mate Rondos had a few too many and pissed his pants......

So you don't think one idiot spoiled the occasion for everyone?

Happened to be from Easts this year, and allegedly "connected".

I hope you have contacted the relevant authorities so appropriate action can be taken.

Posting about it on here is not going to correct the behaviour, or get the drongo brought to justice, nor is the alleged perpetrator going to receive the opportunity to have a fair hearing from the court of social media.

Are you certain that there has been no action already undertaken by the authorities (rugby or civil) against the person in question?

There is always two sides to every story, and even the biggest drop kicks have rights to natural justice and due procedure in this country.

I appreciate that posting on here may not correct the behaviour, that was not why I came forward. I posted on here in response to a previous post questioning the behaviour of supporters. I thought it prudent to bring to light what caused the tension. Be as PC as you want, I know what I saw 1 metre away from me, I may be 42 but my eye sight from 1 metre away still serves me well. ;-) I'm sure some of the journos in the tower have it also.... (BTW in this case there isn't two sides, that old chestnut doesn't wash when the perpetrator does it more than once)

Daddy knows

Has your club registered a complaint,@JimmyLan?

It seems that this would be a good action to take.

If Daddy knows, then what can Daddy do?

It was a SRU sanctioned event. Seems that it will be up to SRU (or Beasties to take unilateral action), or even the North Shore Wallopers to deal with rather than the Peak body that Daddy runs.

Is there a suggestion that Daddy is going to cover this up, or was the "outing" more directed towards the dickhead behaviour of some entitled young'uns who have only ever known privilege?

Obviously you have never been amongst some friendly rivalry.
Not one precious soul was hurt, evicted or even bloodied. As far as capsicum spray, nice urban myth

Yes, I'm afraid the capsicum spray is a load of bull.
I was on my way to the bar when the mele was occurring. There was more push and shove on the field during the games than off it.

What?????

Inconvenient facts getting in the way of internet rage.

Hush your mouth, & hide your keyboards. We don't need that sort of heresy being peddled here. :)

To return to the subject of the venue....

I suspect there would have been a crowd of similar size at Concord.
The 2nd grade GF between traditional rivals would have contributed significantly to the gate and I reckon most of the Norths supporters (many of whom wouldn't have been born when Norths last won the SS) would have found their way to Concord. As for people who attended only because it was within walking distance of a mate's place, well I reckon there are probably guys with mates within walking distance of Concord too.

I'm a staunch believer in the GF being held at a neutral ground and the SRU only need to have a couple of backups to ensure this is achievable. This year it was obvious that Concord was going to be neutral for many weeks before the GF whereas there was a good chance Norths would be in the playoffs and therefore possibly the final for a similar period.

Going forward I think the minor premiers should get to host the Grand Final, even if they get knocked out in the finals. Nice to be rewarded financially for a successful season.

Would Uni's new ground have been big enough to hold the crowd?
And keep in mind the SRU collects the gate takings as I understand it.

Done that

Re SS grand final venue, the SRU calls for interested parties to apply. This year North Sydney Council (not Norths Rugby club) applied,as did West Harbour Rugby Club. Successful applicants obviously need to have a venue which is capable of holding the event,
but there is also a cost involved for the successful applicant,e.g. the host must pay for such things as security, attending medical staff, scoreboard attendants etc.etc.There is also the cost of cleaning up afterwards ,cost of hiring stalls for food & beer etc.& in the case of NSO, (not W.H who operate with volunteers) paying staff to operate stalls etc.
The SRU gets to keep the money obtained from admission. In addition this year, the SRU was also paid an extra inducement by North Sydney Council to influence the final choice.
If a club doesn't want to host the event ,as most don't,then they are not considered.
