Interesting post on the lindfield fb page this evening, very hard to believe that the payor was the only committee member who knew anything about it.

PS. Im going down to my club to claim back pay on monday...$600 for 3 games of 2s and a bench cap for 1s geez....ill be up for 5 figures!!!

The behaviour of some Lindfield people is indefensible. But if anyone has been a part of Subbies administration, you would know it's very easy to do anything without the committee knowing about it.

I don't think this will destroy Lindfield as a Club because their achievements (promotion to Div 1) were based on performances across the grades, not superstars of 1st Grade. They'll hurt but, in time, they'll return. Just think when Knox got busted from Div 1 to Div 4 or 5 many years ago.

Subbies are definitely backed into a corner now. There is now a precedent that will have to be followed. It also means they will have to take any accusation of a breach seriously, frivolous or not, or risk looking like only being interested in taking down easy targets.

Bad luck for the players who weren't involved but definitely a very strong message sent. Lets see if any powerhouses follow St Pat's trajectory as money continues to be removed from Subbies.

I spoke to players and officials on Saturday and the common theme is what about the other 4 or 5 clubs that people suspect to be paying players in Div 1 & 2. Lindfield is just the tip of the iceberg but others are to smart to get caught.

Given we know the final ladders for all the Club Championships and Subbies' desire for 8 team competitions, what do we all think the competition structure will look like next year?
NOTES: Allegedly Subbies will not move anyone up from Division 4 to Division 3.

If they are keen for 8 clubs per division, this is what I'd like to see happen or what I think will happen (most of my working out here is based on Club Championship standings).

DIVISION 1: Colleagues, Mosman, Petersham, Drummoyne, Balmain, Knox, St Patrick's, Waverley (promoted)
DIVISION 2: Hunters Hill, Forest, Hills, Blue Mountains, UNSW, Hawkesbury Ag (promoted), Beecroft (promoted), Redfield Old Boys (promoted)
DIVISION 3: Newport (demoted allegedly by choice), Barker OB (demoted), Lindfield (feel like this will be their landing spot), Brothers, Epping, Hawkesbury Valley, Old Ignatians, St Ives
DIVISION 4: Oatley (demoted, unluckily by finishing 2nd last), Blacktown, Sydney Irish, Canterbury, Sydney Harlequins, Briars, Kings Old Boys (demoted), Rouse Hill (after a tough re-accreditation process)
DIVISION 5: Burraneer (grade + colts), Macquarie Uni, Lane Cove (grade + colts), Menai, Roseville, Engadine, Maccabi, Manly Savers
DIVISION 6: Macarthur Crusaders, ICMS, Collaroy, Terrey Hills, Wakehurst, Dee Why, Chatswood, Alexandria Dukes.

Logically this should happen, wonder if the clubs promoted to div 2, particularly redfield & hac, would be able to field colts teams. Redfield have a good number of guys that are young enough apparently, but whether they want to keep those guys integrated in grade teams. Hac should by rights easily have colts being a uni based club, but have never known them to have many colts age players.

Would be a popular Northside Competition with a bus trip to Hawkesbury Valley.

Are there any new teams/clubs on the horizon? Having all divisions up and running would be a mandatory starting point for me if subbies rugby is to grow again. Progression is stifled if you have to go from Div 6 to 4.

I will hazard a guess that in five years subbies will be back again to even stronger numbers, who knows we may even have a womens subbies.

Good news.

Prodigy - any reason Blacktown would not go up?

I would tip Convicts to come back in somewhere - Div 4 or 5. I believe they sat out this season due to Bingham Cup in middle of the season.

I admit to not knowing anything about the plight of BOB's this season but I wouldn't be surprised if they were dropped 2 divisions to Div 4 which has been the precedent set in the last couple of years by Subbies.

Blacktown would be lock-ins to go back to 3rd Div, based on their form this year. You can't go undefeated minor premiers in your top 2 grades (missing only 2 BPs in 2nd grade), as well as finish a clear 1000 points clear on the Club Championship, and expect anything else.

Very similar to Beecroft last year.

My info is that Subbies were/are not looking to move anyone up and lock in 8 clubs per division.

If that's the case, we will happily help reform 5th Division. For the greater good :)

Just heard the news about Linfield. I used to play against them in Kentwell and Burke cup many moons ago.

Always thought there was something not above board up there;)

It will be interesting to see what they do with Bobs and Newport. I am shocked that the breakers want to drop a division.

Population density on the Northern beaches is very different to other parts of unitised Sydney. From Manly to Palm Beach west to Forestville only holds around 180000 of Sydney's 4500000 people. That sustains 2 Shute Shield clubs, 2 div clubs and 5 other 1 team clubs. Contrast that against the Eastern Suburbs that has 4 times as many people in 1/3rd of the area.

Demographic more important than density, probably.

Look at the lower north shore which used to support quite a few clubs but now doesn't.
