Our best session with the bat so far this series. Gritty sensible batting. Good to see batsmen valuing their wicket and playing to the conditions. Smarsh used soft hands very well.

He's such a frustrating player. Could have been anything. Instead averages 37.

(Having said that he has probably got himself selected for every subcontinental match for the foreseeable future)

He's played spin better than anyone else in the squad. Certainly he looked far more comfortable in the conditions than Smith.

Indeed. He's got so much talent and a great technique, especially against spin. I just wish the mental side of his game was stronger!

He watched the ball really closely yesterday and was able to adjust his stroke on a number of occasions. The few false strokes were harmless as he used beautiful soft hands when palying at the ball.

SL effectively 163/5 at Tea on Day 4, if they can push past 220 I reckon your blokes will struggle against Herath & Co. on Day 5.

Yeah, if you're Steve Smith you're almost at the point of wanting to keep SL out there as long as possible so they don't have enough time to take 10 wickets. Unless Starc goes nuts with the new ball & keeps the lead under 250 I'd agree you're next to no chance.

Yeah we have nothing to gain tomorrow at this rate. Bowl to restrict them and don't leave them enough time to bowl us out again. That said, with the way we've batted in this series it'll only take a session.

Sri Lanka 8/312 at stumps day 4, a lead of 288. Suggest that Sri Lanka should declare overnight - possible that could bat on to get a lead of 300, but would be a misguided decision.

Difficult to see us getting 288 on the 5th day - or even surviving the day.

And unsurprisingly our team full of batsmen who can't play spin, all rounders who don't bowl and can't play spin, a keeper who can't play spin and a tail who can't play spin are folding now

Didn't take long did it?

160 all out - Sri Lanka win the test by 163 runs.

Would have liked to have seen a bit more grit and determination to hold out.
Not so upset this time with the effort.

The wrong players are there

Normally I'm a bit of an apologist for the selectors cause I can at least see what they are trying to do but this is the such a terrible batting lineup we've put out.

We have 4 no 8s and 3 no 11s

Good god that was disgraceful.

Why not just block every shot possible a la Faf du Plessis at Adelaide 2012?

Openers were the only ones who did okay in the 2nd innings (Warner 68 & Marsh's dismissal was because of the catch of the year). Entire middle order (Smith to M.Marsh) was pathetic. Middle order total = 22. Starc = 23.

Also, a bit OT but jeez the Saffas have fallen. They were 1st in the world last year - now 7th. Also the Pakis have risen spectacularly, now 2nd in the world (India on top now). Australia now 3rd.

Herath - 28 wickets at 12.75. What a series.

Most wickets by a left arm bowler in a 3 test series.
Best bowling this test by a SL against Australia.

More wickets than Shane Warne after the same amount of tests.

And 38 years old.
