City looking a shadow of 2014/15 teams.

Strachan seems to a capable player. Good to see players that were not schoolboy protégés getting a go.

Might have missed it, but I assume that Nick Styles is no longer head coach. That may be a major factor in the "new look" City team.

To be fair, the Eagles team is probable the best mob in NSW, so falling short in game 1 may not be such a big issue in the grand scheme of things.

White looked good and Kuridrani tried to get himself involved (even though it was through pick and drives) but it was clear that without any real super rugby level backs, the country deegan, horwtiz and godwin knew exactly how to shut them down.

I wouldn't say they are a shadow of their previous years team, they certainly aren't as good in the backs and that could be pinned to missing Frisby and Kerevi to Wallaby duty and Hunt out with injury.

I thought given that Houston attended the Wallabies camp when he returned to Australia that he would have been a standout.

City were disappointing, but it was an entertaining game

Tough year for the Reds all around.

His specialty is skittling a messy defense. A big bopper can rarely run at a brick wall and look good doing it.

Major Missed opportunity this weekend with the NRC game on Saturday.

Imagine how much of a festival they could have made it if it were played on Sunday afternoon after all of the BJRU grand finals this weekend. They could have played the Under 17 game as a curtain raiser. I think it would have been awesome.

Jnr Rugby Finals go all the way up until 6:30 on Sunday. A 7:30pm game on Sunday would not have gone down well. Not with Fox and not with all the kids who spent all day at Ballymore waiting for the game (if they would have).

Would have taken a little bit of rescheduling but I think it would have been an awsome styler of event. Perhaps a twilight game

I agree it may not have been ideal for fox.

A nice concept but completely unworkable I'm afraid. See the below draw. Not much wiggle room at all.

From an NRC perspective I'm just disappointed the QLD clubs seem to be the only ones charging for kids?

Yes, even if they did something like 'wear your junior club shirt and get in free' to encourage the junior players, or get a free drink/sausage if you wear your junior team shirt type thing.

pretty excited to see the fire power brisbane city are bringing to the table. Wasn't impressed with 21 yr old lock findlay-henaway last week. @ 191cm & 105kg he just isn't anywhere near it in the physical department. Much more keen to see the younger Isa Naisarani who at 195cm and 110kg could be more what forwards need in this comp, which is physical dominance (criff tupou did well with his opportunities last year). Combined with Tui & Houston there is plenty of grunt, with Beauchamp and Gunn with the wheels to get around town. Only issue will be lineout.

Keen to see Aumua get a run @ 12. Had a stint in Bordeaux and has got some serious mass to do damage there, with the wiser and solidly performer White @ 13.

Define class? McIntyre, Strachan and Paddy James are the ones in the squad.

Stef Hunt would have been good to see there.

I'm not sure they are doing that year, but he's probably been Brisbane's best uncontracted player - in fact close to their best player full stop.

It would be a damn shame if they didn't.

One of the crucial pieces we're missing from out 3rd tier is open contracts. We sign everyone up pre-NRC and if a bloke stands out we say 'awesome, hope you hang around and your form is this good next year, we'll sign you for sure then.'
