Had a great night at the rugby dinner last night. The only dissappointing aspect was the general chat about approaches made to some players currently at other GPS schools BSHS and Terrace to come to the school.wow who controls who targets these kids and families

This again? I know the one boy moving to GT from BSHS and he's not moving because of a scholarship or rugby or enticements, or any of that rubbish.

I find all this stuff funny, I mean a boy from Churchie moved to BSHS this year, no one said a thing ...

Well to be fair , No Deal's gripe about skulduggery in who was poaching who could be interpreted in a number of ways with fingers pointed in multiple directions

It can be lonely at the bottom too Old School - and that is likely where you will find the origin point of No Deal's gripes - deep within those dank bowels . Probably explains why he is as clear as mud.

Maybe his state high mates could add subtitles to his posts.

back to more fun stats. would be interesting to see a list of all the schools "vs" records, to see if there are any bogey teams etc or ridiculously long streaks. ... e.g. BBC vs GT played 85 times, 43W to GT etc. Job for someone who hearts a spreadsheet.

Ex Churchie schoolboy sensation Kalyn Ponga will make debut in first grade for North Qld Cowboys tonight.
He is playing on the wing.
Good luck

Team of the Season post is online. We've chocked it full of individual highlights, so it makes for a fun read.

http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/qld-gps-2016-team-of-the-season/

I realise this 'team of the gps season 2016' is a reflection of G&G experts and some gps coaches reflections. Any chance of posting previous yrs 'teams of the season' just for fun and a mock reflection of where are they are now ? Its not a bad way of gaging how far these gps schoolboys with so much potential end up.

.....I guess only time will tell if the class of 2013 will have any that will emerge and make the transition from schoolboys to the professional ranks.....in the same token, im curious if any schoolboys who didnt make the 'team of the 2013' have made a name for themselves.

I did some research today on the numbers of GPS athletes out and about in the world's professional rugby scene.

There are exactly 150, with 60% of those graduating since 2010.

Today, the 2016 class already has three: Clayton Mack (TGS) at the Baby Broncos, Murray Taulagi (BSHS) at the Cowboys U20s, and Josh Fenner (BSHS) at the Leicester Tigers in the UK. This is not including Trevor Hosea (BBC) at the Melbourne Rebels, who will graduate next year or the year after.

The 2015 class has 21, including NRL debutants Jayden Su'a (ACGS), Brodie Croft (ACGS) and Panasonic Wild Knight Ben Gunter (BBC)

The 2014 class has 24, with lots of Reds U20s and NRL U20s scattered around Australia. And Ponga.

The 2013 class has 10, including Nudgee's Reds trio James Tuttle, Campbell Magnay and Maclean Jones.

The 2012 class has 14, including capped Reds Adam Korcyzk (BSHS) and Sam Greene (BGS)

The 2011 class has 15, including State High's Sautia, Browning, and Kerevi

The 2010 class has 5 players currently active in professional rugby, headlined by Reds Henry Taefu (ACGS) and Andrew Ready (GT)

The 2009 class picks up again with 15, with Liam Gill (GT) the major player. Interestingly, State High prop Paul Alo-Emile and fullback Matt Garland are the only players from the dream team to graduate in 2009 that currently play professional rugby.

2008, the year of Joe Tomane (NC) and Dane Gagai (BBC), has 9 current professionals.

2007, James O'Connor, James Slipper and Matt To'omua's year, has 13.

2006 has Quade, Rob Simmons and Toby White - just three

2005 has five, including Pocock and Genia

2004 has one, if you count Scott Higginbotham from TSS who famously never played First XV

2003 had James Horwill, Berrick Barnes and Digby Ioane, plus Lloyd Johannson, to make up four.

2002-1998 have four altogether, headlined by Stephen Moore.

Great find gentlemen!! Very interesting indeed.
I have a thought regarding this "Team of the Season". I wonder if the stakeholders(administrators of the concept), would consider making the selection criteria eligible only for the yr 12's as a recognition and support of their efforts in gps schoolboys rugby? The other boys still have 1 or 2 more yrs to make the merit list. After all its not an official team but an honorary one(my opinion).

im curious if any schoolboys who didnt make the 'team of the 2013' have made a name for themselves.

These are the guys who went pro. 4/10 were not in the team of the season.

James Tuttle, NC - Queensland Reds + Queensland Country NRC Captain
Cam Magnay, NC - Queensland Reds + Queensland Country NRC
Maclean Jones, NC - Queensland Reds + Queensland Country NRC
Matt Gibbon, NC - Western Sydney Rams
Issak Fines, TSS - Queensland Country NRC (Premier Grade Player of the Year 2016)
Mitch Third, TSS - Queensland Country NRC
Pat Morrey, BGS - Queensland Country NRC
Trey Kemp, BGS - Cowboys U20s Rugby League
Lolo Fakaosilea - Queensland Reds + Queensland Country NRC + Brumbies 2017
Carlin Anderson - Brisbane Broncos

I don't think that will happen. The best player's in 2016 were named in the Team of the Season. If it didn't include younger kids it wouldn't reflect the year's best performers, so what's the point?

A few more:
2006 Albert Anae (IGS) QLD - Reds & Brumbies
2006 Rod Davies (IGS) QLD - Reds & Wallabies
2011 Matt Parcell (IGS) - Brisbane Broncos & Manly Sea Eagles
2012 Shambeckler Vui (IGS) - Reds U20, Western Force, Perth Spririt NRC

Interestingly I don't believe that the last 2 made either of the Australian schoolboys sides. Good on them for continuing to play.
