Brumbies swoop for schoolboy that hits like a car crash but runs like a gazelle

Interestingly I don't believe that the last 2 made either of the Australian schoolboys sides. Good on them for continuing to play.

Had forgotten Davies - I'll add him to the list.

Sham Vui played First XV in 2013 and 2014, not 2012, as well.

Unfortunately Realdeal word around BSHS is that the current First XV coach will be back again next year.

did a fair job in 2015....to an awesome job to win qld premiers gps schoolboys rugby (against the odds), in 2016...Well done Mr Sione and coaching staff at BSHS.

I really rate Sione Fukofuka. Seems a bit of a legend and is dead set committed to playing rugby the right way. He's got to one-man-army the rugby program at State High with precious little support from the headmaster, so no complaints at all with him staying on for as long as he's happy to.

Agree king. Word is he may opt out from coaching 1st XV in 2017. Either way he has had the last laugh if this was his swan song as BSHS coach.

It raises the question of the coaches. How much should the gps rugby programs invest in the coaches to provide top level (cutting edge), coaching standard. A number of the gps schoolboys coaches are also involved and heavily committed to the Brisbane club rugby comps. Is it helpful? How much is it affecting their role and 1st priority as1st XV coaches? Its interesting NZ school boys teams are coached by a superrugby coach along side school coaches. What a wonderful arrangement . Schoolboys coaches are mentored and up skilled to a higher standard...and where are we?

BSHS head coach was Easts Premier Grade Assistant. Director of Rugby is current HC at Wests.

GT HC is Brothers Prem Grade Assistant, Director of Rugby former Souths legend. Elite Development coach Tom Barker is affiliated with Norths

BBC's coaching staff have links to GPS, Brothers and Souths. Director of Rugby a former Easts player.

ACGS coach has links to Easts, DoR a former Wests assistant.

NC assistant has links to Easts, DoR used to play for GPS.

BGS HC played for Manly in NSW, but DoR is heavily involved with Wests. Brothers Head Coach Carl Marshall also coaches an underage team.

TGS HC is a former UQ Premier Grade HC.

IGS HC has links to Easts, Assistant coach a current Easts player

As the curtain is once again drawn on the Australian schoolboys#rugby#calendar for 2016, it remains a conundrum for another year. The critics and the experts divulge the pros and cons of coaches and selectors, and the relentless and brutal examination of the youngsters who hopefully have not read much into these forums and the confronting critics in the name of finding the gems amongst the deceptive glassy pretenders.
On the bright side, Rugby News article link below shares some of their reflective opinions on the likelihood(potential) from this year's bunch. Not many surprises there. With the Victorian(REBELS signed) playersmy favourite picks as well.Good luck in your future young men.

Got sent this today. Some high quality schoolboy rugby on display with a few QLD GPS boys taking their part.

For Australia, Pelu (3) from Newington and Plummer (10) for the Kiwis were standouts.

As the curtain is surely pulled over the qld gps rugby season 2016, the usual noise is made of BBC and TSS as having "recruited well" for the much anticipated 2017 competition. So much to play for with the English and Irish tour beckoning in almost exactly 12 month from now.
Fancy sticking your neck out for some early predictions?
I sense the rugby gods up to their funny business of causing confusion amongst the punters. . .but I am boldly firming BSHS to repeat and become premier champions in 2017 and go undefeated. BBC will be a contender BUT will fall short without their strike weapon Leni Ikitau to control the centres. Nudgee will suffer some agonisingly close losses. . .IGS is my dark horse team to finish top 3.

I count 8 who have played in the firsts this year with another 7 that trained with them, 2 of these had some bench time, 2 are currently in year 10, injuries during pre-season and trials kept the rest off the paddock.
2 will be playing their 3rd season next year. 3 will be turning 18.
Add some handy players from the 16's and maybe 2016 will be a better year for BGS. This cohort had a particularly strong forward pack a few years ago when they were all together. However, couldn't contest scrums this year in the 16s with such a depleted team.

New head coach and new forwards coach may or may not be a good thing at this stage. Time will tell.
No idea about any "new boys".
Not talking BGS up, just saying that they should be more competitive if things click.
I expect GT will have a much better year next year as well.

GT came in second in 2016, lost to Premiers and were ambushed up the range by TGS. Oh and had best for and against - only way to do better is win the whole shooting match.

And had the talent to beat State High but the rain played into the hands of the hosts, and against the skill-based gameplan of Terrace.

I'll put Southport on top at this early stage. Excellent returning talent in the backline, a production line of talented forwards and excellent coaching.

Nudgee never finish outside the top three in consecutive years. Their weakest class in a long, long time will be replaced and they'll be back competing.

I'd be surprised if Terrace scrape to mid table. They've lost elite talent in the backline and the majority of their role players.

BGS? Unlikely. Haven't got the cattle to play in this league, especially with the lack of support from the headmaster in scholarship dollars.

A better smoky would be Churchie. Michael Lucas has had great relationships with his players, talented forwards entering senior and a stud back. If the surrounding pieces can improve there's nothing stopping Churchie.

I think State High will fall back into mediocrity with the graduation of Gorman + Taulagi + Mahina + Fenner + Tafa + MacNamara, and the moving on of Coach Sione Fukofuka (confirmed. Told me himself)

I can assure you there will be no new players in BBC firsts next year. they will need to make do with 6 returning players , an average 16 A team this year and a brilliant 15a team .
in fact the new edict is that only new boys will be in grades 8 and 9 from now on.
2017 is a 2 horse race- NC and TSS have the most returning players and both had strong 16 A teams. add in to that at least 3 new grade 11 players at each school and it is difficult to beat that.
PS- nudgee will power home in the rowing again with 2 new boys already arrived .
