First played for in 1938, the John I Dent Cup was won by the Royal Military College, 27-6 over Norths, and it has been contested every year since except between 1942 and 1944 during World War II.

The Cup was a gift from John I. Dent, a wealthy Cootamundra grazier, who owned shops in Civic, Kingston
and Manuka. Dent was a personal friend of W. G. Woodger, the then President of the ACTRU, and he retired to live in Canberra and took up a grazing lease in the area that is now Weston.

Perhaps it was significant that Dent moved to Weston, the site of the Royals club. Royals have appeared in 29 of the 52 grand finals, winning 16 and losing 13.

Clubs that have long since disappeared from the ACTRU competition, RAAF, Navy, Forestry School and
Ainslie have all lined up in ACTRU grand finals but perhaps the one oddity that stands out in the winners' list is
the 1950 victory by Royal Military College No 2 over Royal Military College No 1, 17-15.

RMC dominated possession of the Cup in the early years, taking it back to Duntroon on 14 occasions between
1938 and 1962.

Season 2016 has been done and dusted.

Time to start the wang for 2017.

Who is changing clubs? Any movements in the Coaching Ranks?

What impact are the 2016 Colts Graduating Cohort going to have in 2017. And what about the crop of 2015 Graduates?

Which 2016 Schoolboys will bypass Colts and be parachuted directly into Premier Rugby?

Good stuff! Looking forward to 2017 already - the 2016 comp was prob the best one for a number of years.

2016 thread pretty much doubled the size from 2015 - so heaps of talk/interest - lets hope this thread doubles again!

Yo guys - any news/rumours around town about the up-coming John I Dent season?

Will we see both Saia and Anthony playing a season for the Whites?

Saw Matt Hawk running around playing 7's - guessing he will be back in town for the Eagles after going to the UK?

Also saw the season kicks off a little earlier next year - on the 25th of March.

Much movement between clubs this year?

I heard rumblings that OJ Noa was considering a move?

Can anyone confirm Eli Sinoti to Gungahlin?

It doesn't appear that the Vikings have done any recruiting in the top grades just through colts. Notably Len Ikitau from Queensland and Luke Gesakowski from St Eddies.

One thing to wait for is the Brumby Contracted Player allocation.

Mayhew, Fainga'a twins, Alcock, Fakaosilea, Valetini, Hawera, Godwin, Banks

Whether Lonegan moves to ensure max playing time as same club as Powell.

Plus the propping up of Easts

I'm told that the Twins once played for the Vikings...if this is so, will they return there???

I believe Saia and Anthony played Canberra Vikings but not Tuggeranong Vikings - Colby def played for Tuggeranong - might be wrong though re: Saia/Anthony.

Would be a big loss to Queanbeyan if they lost Oj Noa - wasn't aware he had any links with anyother club.

Looks like the 2017 DRAW is out also -

http://community.brumbies.com.au/fixtures-and-results/

1st Round:

25th of March - (only like 8 weeks away!)

Queanbeyan V's Wests @ Campese
Tuggeranong V's Easts @ Vikings Park

Royals, Uni, Gungahlin - BYE

Touching on the front row for Vikings Michael Henry and Sione - What are peoples thoughts on how these 2 have performed this year? Been Vikings for a long time now and been a rock in the front row - is this still the case?
From what I understand there's going to be a bit of an exodus at the end of the year. Not just in the front row but in general.

Macka_au...Have you any updates on this?

Re the draw; 17 rounds with each team having 3 byes. obviously 7 into 17 doesnt go, but would it be impossible (rep season etc) to add 1 more round and have each team play each other 3 times.

Gungahlin seem to be stocking up for a huge 50th year. They are well set up across the grades. Sinoti a terrific in for them. Will be interesting to see if they can take the extra step this season. Whites vs Lions in round 1 is a hard start to the year for Wests. How are the other clubs looking?

Sione seemed to be abit fitter last year (always a fit dude regardless) but seemed to drop a few kg's from playing International footy. Henry is a solid player you can rely on to do the basics right. Honestly not sure how much either of them have left - don't think they should be playing rep footy this year.

Hopefully the Vikings blood some new guys in the front-row -they had a very good colts front-row last year.

Pretty sure Sione isn't playing this year
