Well funny all the people who doubted my predictions of Shore's complete domination again this season. Congrats to the shore boatshed for another great display of what hard work and determination can lead to. Also Riverview on another dark horse performance in the viii race making for a great last race of the day. As for the scots keyboard warriors and all this hype over their program I guess actions speak louder than words and that was evident today with that 4th place. Keen to see next seasons racing, I'm backing shore again to be unstoppable in the VIIIS however the IVs may face a tough year.

Good effort from Shore this season. Once again I find myself questioning what Riverview does to prepare for HOTR, likely being the main surprise on the day. I find myself questioning two things however: 1. Scots first eight seemed to be in a prime position to upset Shore. Did anything happen to them or was all this hope and speculation just built around gold cup? 2. Did someone get ejected in the 4th Jnr Joeys crew? Not trying to start rumours but was just wondering what happened when the crew started with 8 towers and finished with 7.

Based solely off of junior eights, kings could be in a better position leading into 2018. It should be an interesting season for Shore, with a strong 1st and 2nd eight and a comparatively weaker junior eight. Maybe next year could be the start of something new for Riverview with a stronger than usual performance in the juniors and the almost typical (at this point) dark horse from them. Scots and Joeys I have no idea, and I guess we are still all hopeful for something in the future for Newington

Just my two cents

I take the point that stacking is not good. However it seems the school realises it is not competitive at a certian level ie fours and drops back to a level where they can at least compete rather than be thrashed in the fours. Seems sgs have a serious decline in rowing numbers recently. A real concern.

SGS need a new broom.
I had exposure to their junior shed for one season a few years ago.
It was an unmitigated shambles and reflected very poorly on the school's grasp of what seems to be considered a world of its own.
Seeking to,row down is a great way to avoid facing up to the facts. Cricket and rugby at the school have coaches dedicated to building the sports - against the odds- but rowing is a special case.
Deplorable and winning should be embarrassing rather thane celebrated, as I suspect it will be.

I see sgs won the 3rd eight. might cause a few grumbles given no fours.

That's what prompted my criticism: this is not like rugby where the difference gives rise to a greater risk of injury.
It can go both ways. Racing in the 1 and 2 fours would have likely ended in a thrashing but maybe seeding into the 3 4 fours would be a compromise. I agree the win in 3rd eight is open to criticism.
Nb only one junior eight today. Big worry.

Well, these blokes represent the school: the school, including the pupils, need to be confronted with reality. They certainly are academically: why should sport be different?
If the athletic make up of the school means they get a flogging in IVs then they should confronted with and, if it's uncomfortable, do something about it.
I warned about the issues at the time. Nothing has been done to address a lack of leadership.

Fair point. This requires a fundamental change to the school including its intake and ethos. A big ask. I note you have been banging this drum for a while.

Very interesting from Grammar, especially looking forward to their next few years if they only raced one junior VIII today. Even High raced 3 yr 10 VIIIs today, showing that even the school that is considered to have the least depth can still conjure up boys who are willing to row.

It will be interesting to see the future of the various GPS schools, with Kings performing well, as with Riverview. Shore and Joeys may not be able to keep the standard that was set over the last few years. Still, anything is possible, with crews like the Newington Junior VIII improving drastically from last season to overcome Joeys.

Just my view on what is to come...

IS, I like the cut of your jib.

I am vehemently opposed to the freewheeling approach today which led to top-20 rowers from Grammar crushing top-40 rowers from other schools.

Rowing is a non-contact sport and Grammar is a well-funded school which could channel resources towards rowing but chooses not to. There is no reason for the GPS to make allowances for it and I am very uncomfortable with the precedent set today.

grammar crushing in the 3rd is a bit strong however i agree with the point. Grammar here have clearly cherry picked an event and got a HOTR win. Take Joeys today, full and commited program, not one win, disappointing maybe but defintely not cool when looking at it from the perspective of the 3rd VIII results (at least).

I agree with you to a point, but keep in mind other schools tried to do this- Newington's 4th IV beat their 3rd IV by nearly 30 seconds, but because they came second no one's up in arms. I don't know what the story with the SGS 3rd VIII is, but I think, especially for a school with a rowing program that is struggling if they can't get the Coxswains to field two IVs they should be able to field an VIII, I don't know why the AAGPS agreed, but they did

If you can't get the coxswains for more than three crews, then that's easy: you have a 1st VIII, 2nd VIII and a 1st IV. Every school struggles to recruit coxswains. Many sheds have too many rowers and not enough coxes. That's a problem for the school to figure out, not for the GPS to solve by agreeing to a redistribution like yesterday's. If that truly was agreed upon by all participating schools at an AAGPS meeting, then it's time for the minutes of those meetings to be available publicly. Oh and bring on the 2017 GPS debating season where traditionally lower-achieving schools could perhaps request that their Firsts compete in Seconds, and their Seconds go up against Year 10. How about a handicapped Lawrence Campbell Oratory? 'but it's so hard for us to recruit speakers..." "we only have a small debating program here...." "our boys don't stand a chance against your best speakers, it's better for the competition to let them enter a division suited to their ability!" How would Grammar like that?
