Cummins with 3 so far. Seems a good call.

Surprised Hartley has called it a day. He is still getting better! Top score in both innings.

Since the second innings of the 2nd test (4 wickets remaining this innings) -
Lyon 62 overs 0/179.
SO'K 64 overs 3/ 153.

In contrast to -
Jadeja 57 overs 6/127.
Ashwin 46.4 overs 7/155.

As for the series so far -
Lyon 110.2 overs 13/303 - 23.30 @ 2.74 per over.
SO'K 113.1 overs 16/263 - 16.43 @ 2.32 per over.
Ashwin 158.3 overs 16/421 - 26.31 @ 2.65 per over
Jadeja 135.4 overs 17/329 - 19.35 @ 2.42 per over.

No idea what to make of this. o_O

I think we're going to find it hard to take 20 wickets in this game. Maybe three seamers in the next test? Cummins has massively repaid the faith of the selectors in this dig and is keeping us in the game.

Lead by 50 at tea with 4 wickets in hand. India have probably been kept in check enough to ensure we can play for a draw without too much trouble

Everyone's done their job with the run rate even if we couldn't take any wickets

Welp, this one's gone then. India 100 in front with 15 overs to go in the day. Need a really good solid effort from the top six tomorrow.

FFS, two down and still 120-odd behind. Every chance we'll lose this by an innings tomorrow. Our bowling in the last couple of innings has really started to lack penetration. Might be time to bin one of the spinners I think.

You'd think that Lyon might not be available for the next test with his finger injury. Can't be easy bowling with a split callus on your spinning finger.

You've got to question whether Cummins can realistically play the next test. If we bowled first in that game and had to bowl 150+ overs it would be pretty easy to imagine that Cummins will break down and miss another year of cricket.

Hard to imagine they don't take that risk after he was the only bowler to do well.

I agree.

Not a lot of options unless they rush James Pattinson over (and make him miss the Shield Final) to play a test.

A combination of Bird and Hazlewood just isn't threatening enough in my view.

Hopefully Cummins gets through it.

I hope that Cummins gets through it too, because regardless of what happens today, the series is still live and we need some firepower in the fourth test.

With Maxi at 6 it may be interesting to get Pattinson over there for the next test.

Smith may actually then have to bowl Maxwell but that's another issue. Selectors are obssessed with allrounders and the captain regularly shows an aversion to using the 5th bowler. Is there just no faith in the fast bowlers to make it through a game uninjured and its a back up spot only?

Will be surprised if we make it to tea, let alone score enough runs to make India bat again. This pitch will have turned into a minefield overnight and there will be plenty on offer for the Indian spinners. Wouldn't surprise me if we survive the first session then Jadeja runs through our middle order in about 20 minutes after lunch.

Lyon has to go after this test. Bring Bird in and have Maxwell bowl a few more overs. If Cummins can't play we are in serious trouble.

Yeah, I'm not sure why Maxwell hasn't bowled more when we bowled 200 overs in the innings.

In the first two tests it wasn't surprising Marsh didn't bowl much because we just didn't bowl that many overs.

Australian cricket in general has an absolute hard on for big young guys who can bat a bit of bowl 130km/h plus.

Look through the last decade or so. Shane Watson, Moises Henriques, Mitch Marsh, Sean Abbott, Nathan Coulter-Nile etc. etc. Watson obviously went on to have a long international career but the others were all promoted before they were ready and it has taken them a long time to mature into decent cricketers (with varying degrees of success).

They seem to think they're going to be the next Andrew Flintoff or something and it never works out that way.

Hilton Cartwright 70 (90) and 170* (173) for WA v NSW. First class average now at 52.07.

I'd wager that he will take Handscomb's spot at 5 for the Ashes.

Tough call on Handscomb. Warner has been very poor this series as well. S Marsh continues on the same career trajectory as usual - one good knock at the exact moment he needs it.

Only change for the Ashes should be Khwaja back at 3. IMO Handscomb did more than enough this summer to secure his spot for the first couple of tests at least.

Warner is becoming the Australian version of Virender Sehwag. Dominant at home and then abysmal overseas.
