Ok another close week (with the results at least) as the Reds and the young brumbies take their wins.

Had two new entrant this week Rugby Mum 2 and Farmer, welcome guys. Unfortunately rm2 didn't quite get it her own way, but gave some great input during the week and won the "Golden Oracle" award for the week. Well done rm2.

The results this week had 4 perfect game picks: linespeed, HTC, Sage & Farmer; however the points difference winner was HTC with -14. No new leader as linespeed maintains his lead. well done to linespeed!

Linespeed 2/2 -18
Sage 2/2 -18
Farmer 1/1 -11
HTC 2/2 and -14
RugbyMum2 1/2 -61

Overall

Linespeed 4/4 -32
Farmer 1/1 -11
Sage 7/8 -80
HTC 6/8 -142
Thebreakdown 1/2 -25.
RugbyMum2 1/2 -61

Well done guys. Don't forget all are welcome to give their view and score differences. Enter at any stage.

Next week two more great games. Will Gen Blue be inspired by Rugby Mum's tongue lashing? Can the Reds continue on their winning ways and take two in a row?.

Round 4 of the Super U20's was interesting to say the least....

The ACT Brumbies V Western Force was a pretty straight forward game, with Kotz having a great day with the boot and Lonergan steering his team around very nicely.

The QLD Reds V NSW Waratahs......interesting!
I thought that the Reds kicks in general play were excellent with very intelligent placing of their returns.
Great dominance was shown from the reds center pairing making a mockery of the Waratahs starting 12 and 13.

I know the traditional way of looking at a score is the total number of points scored after the full time whistle.
Throw out the traditional aspect for a minute and have a look at the score in two halves.

1st half QLD 24-5 NSW
2nd half QLD 12-5 NSW

If I were apart of the Waratahs coaching staff I'd be having a look at what changed in the second half and put that towards next weeks game against a strong Rebels outfit.

Brumbies V Force (man of the match) Kotz
Reds V Waratahs (man of the match) Riley, Hunt and Ngamanu

Thanks Sage for my award, undeserved of course but at least someone from NSW won.

I found out that someone "accidentally" swapped the "Once Were Warriors" DVD to "The Notebook", the penultimate chic flick, so its no wonder the boys were a bit emotional. All sorted this week though- Vikings and Braveheart on a continuous loop.

Haha good on you Mum but there is too much going on in that continuous loop and you forgot that the Brumbies were playing against Qld and Gen Blue were playing the Rebels so let me help you with the correct scores.
Gen Blue by a whisker 5
Qld by 30.

The award Sage gave you may be the only thing you win with those scores.

So, I watched the Reds v's Blues on the weekend. What terrible game of football. Let me qualify this by saying I had a kid playing in it. I always like to watch the warm ups, always think you can tell basic skills from that. The Reds second no.2 didn't land one line out throw at all, the 12 cannot pass. Very basic skills that by now should be well and truely in place.
During the game I noticed that both teams only ran to contact, never looking for gaps, off loads, counter attack etc. Absolutely no counter rucking, until the second half back for the Reds came on and got a steal. We had a no.9 who only passes, a 10 who basically only kicks, and a twelve old can't pass.
I really don't believe most of this is a failure in the players, more so the coaching! The most boring and unoriginal game plan ever! Now, some of you might say 'but they won, easily'. The problem with that is that is, if they were to play any NZ provincial U20's team the Reds would get done by 30 odd and the blues by 80 odd.

You must have missed that offload by the 12 that resulted in a try.

Exception that proves the rule^^^^. He has great potential, but a basic skill like passing NEEDS to be there, improved and utilised

Well I, for one disagree with some of what you have said. I thought it was a reasonably good game of football; yes a lill generic, but solid.

Didn't watch the Reds warm up, so can't comment on the second #2. However, the #12 did pass the ball, because the #13 scored from it... The #9 passed the ball because the #10 was so effective in kicking it; gaps were found because tries were scored (same with the offloads) and there were several turnovers from rucks (mainly against NSW). So what you are saying s basically not true!....very troll like?

Also we don't have to compare ourselves to Kiwi provincial sides, because guess what NZ aren't at the top of the tree at the moment (which is unusual) so that comparison may turn out to be irrelevant. This is what we have to work with and I think they are just fine.

And another thing, if you are a parent of one of the boys, then SHAME on you, saying that about your kid and his team mates. Go to NZ if that's where you feel your boy will get the best.

I really don't want to get into it, they were just observations. I agree that the game plan was very affective. Just boring and certainly not world standard. And that is what we should be striving for.

I didn't notice too much wrong with the skills of the Qld players but i was very surprised at the lack of basic passing and catching skills of the Force players.

Unfortunately some players miss out on good coaching in the basics as they progress through the juniors.

The first thing Wayne Bennett the RL Broncos coach does when he arrives at a new club is to work on passing and catching skills. As surprising as it seems, and through his experience, he knows there's a need for it even with 1st grade players.

Ok my picks for the week.

Qld by 18

Rebels by 12
Good numbers Sage however I do think NSW are hurting right now and will want to win this next crucial game, seen as they were piped at the post last year, they will come out fighting and give it their all, as Mum said they'll be in that continuous loop and that with the coach kicking their butts, they should pull through for a narrow win.
