Old boys of each tell me that despite the geographic advantage there's no straight 2000m of good water to which they have access. How many races are there at the GPS HotR? I just checked, 11. How many schools have a crew in every race? Three: Joeys, Newington and Scots. Two years ago there were two: Joeys and King's. Well done, Newington and Scots (and King's in 2015). The travel for Grammar, Scots and King's is onerous to say the least. Let's hope the rowing programs at these three schools continues to pick up.
I've thought for some time both Joeys and Riverview should be much better at rowing than they've been since the GPS was founded; to have their rowing sheds on site, or close nearby, is a huge advantage compared to trekking across Sydney in afternoon peak hour. And they can easily sneak in a coupa early morning training sessions without eating into teaching time.
Shore, well done, as usual.
Grammar would have more cox sized kids than anyone else: that can't be the issue. As usual Lindommer has hit the nail on the head: travel for scots kings and grammar is horrendous. Victoria Rd at 5/6 pm going back to the city or trying to get to TKS IS a nightmare. Shore at least sort of cross the traffic up to a point. I doubt Newington has much better.I agree with you to a point, but keep in mind other schools tried to do this- Newington's 4th IV beat their 3rd IV by nearly 30 seconds, but because they came second no one's up in arms. I don't know what the story with the SGS 3rd VIII is, but I think, especially for a school with a rowing program that is struggling if they can't get the Coxswains to field two IVs they should be able to field an VIII, I don't know why the AAGPS agreed, but they did
The bus from college st to gladesville was reasonably quick in my day 1990s. Maybe traffic is much worse now.Grammar would have more cox sized kids than anyone else: that can't be the issue. A slow grind back and forth but def worth it for you guysits getting back to the south and east, I think: and getting there and back on saturdays - early.
Too be honest I think parental disengagement with sport generally is the real problem at the school: those who participate with commitment do so notwithstanding their parents' apathy.
It was a slow grind in the 70's across the Pyrmont and Glebe Island bridges.

The trip to weigall via darlinghurst and kings x offered a wide array of interesting sights and sounds as wellIt was great - head ons on the glebe island bridge; the old woman selling papers at the corner of victoria road; tying kids up using their ties so they couldn't get off the bus when we got there; hoping for enough wind so we didn't have to go out
If high winds then we would sit on ergometer for killer session. I was a puker after 2500m ergos. It was great - head ons on the glebe island bridge; the old woman selling papers at the corner of victoria road; tying kids up using their ties so they couldn't get off the bus when we got there; hoping for enough wind so we didn't have to go out
Good effort by both schools. High were big improvers. Kudos to themWas anyone else surprised in the firsts by High and Grammar? Last 2000m regatta they were a fair way off the pack, but they made up a lot of ground in 3 weeks
Poor form... I think you'll find he's on here under a different username. Thanks Chilton.
Nationals are in two weeks. Will shore be able to hold off Scotch and Melb gram.

Meanwhile, something interesting is happening over at the schoolgirls HotR, this Saturday.
At the States, early Feb, Queenwood won the 1st III's in 6.47, after being pushed hard by Pymble, (2nd in 6.53).
A week later, at the PLC/Kings regatta, also at SIRC, Pymble did what every coach can only dream of, improved their time by a massive 12 seconds!! finishing 1st (in 6.41) with Q'wood 2nd (in 6.44) It appears that no one was "foxing" as Q'wood also improved their time.
The next day, also at SIRC, both crews were cooked, Queenwood got up in 6.51, and Pymble 2nd in 6.55. I think that was the last time they both raced at SIRC..Saturday will be interesting.
