Grammar, schmammar. I've been watched you post all about them and I don't see them having a chance in the world. However this is a new season, and I'm expecting big things from Scots. Now I know what you're all going to say: "SHOREWASH SHOREWASH SHOREWASH", or maybe the few campaigning for Riverview, but KT is left in the dust and I believe this is a new start for Scots. They began to show potential in the lead up to HOTR, but a disappointing performance left a bad taste in the rest of your mouths. But you wait, I'll be on the banks of Penrith witnessing the first time a Scots first Viii has won since 1979, a distant memory for most on this forum. I remember there was a time when Scots was the hot topic on this forum, but KT has lead them to nothing special. With someone finally steering the ship, Scots could be on course to ending one of the largest droughts in the GPS
Epic post. All the best for the 17-18 season

A bitter one for others

A "new rowing professional is being hired" to lead the rowing program. So yea I guess "Boo Radley" is gone or demoted. (I assume "boo Radely" is the old head coach?)

Actually Boo was reasonably well presented compared with the now ex-Head of Rowing at Grammar, but yes, that's the nickname I heard from a number of schoolboy rowing sources. If you've ever seen him pull up in his plumber's ute in filthy ill-fitting trousers with hair like he'd stuck his finger in an electric socket and the eyes of a madman.....the resemblance is there.

Correction LuvToRow, the UTS rower got dropped for a St Augustines boy who was second in the single. The time in the final race was almost the same as last year i.e. 6:09. Because this is a scratch combo I think they can improve big time. Interestingly only a boy's 2x and 4x got picked. The double with a kid from MGS (pulled 5:58! in Y11) and TSS (QLD) and then the bespoke quad. Not one sweep rower!!! On the girl's side a 2x and an 8+. Very small fleet.

Thanks for that correction.

I don't know why RA can't commit to putting an Junior Mens 8+ together. The only thing would be not having enough athletes but i fail to believe this. The quality of athletes i think would definitely be there. Imagine a composite of Scotch, MGS and Shore athletes. I think in the selection criteria RA stated the only way an 8+ would be selected is through the pathway 8's program which I find to be a bit of a waste of time to be honest with you. I think I speak for everyone when I say the 8+ is the pinnacle boat class. LTR

Last year the Vic 8+ were invited to speed order and made prog, but in favourable conditions so were denied selection. This year they only just missed out on an invitation. IMO RNSW should contact the GPS and ask to fill the pathways eight with the GPS 8+

Implying that the only rowing talent out of NSW comes from GPS?

Now I don't know about y'all, but I'm just about sick of all the hopeless speculation about the 2018 season from crews who haven't won in years or even decades... Now I'm not much one to speek on that front; it's been a rough couple of decades. However, a second place in the last 2 HOTR's, a weaker Shore junior eight and a strong group of boys coming through has given me hope. I've seen it, the past two years, hope slipping from Shore supporters as they were clawed back, inch by inch, and I think it's about time to take them outside and give them a bit of mercy because this here is Riverview's season. I don't see anybody else taking out the Rennie, but too be fare I do have my bias blinders on. I hear that SIRCWATCH and his gang of personalities special fits SHORE pairs if any of you want to take your glasses off for this season. However if I'm not the only one that truly sees the light, I'll see you all at Specsavers

"A weaker SHORE junior eight". Are you forgetting that in 2015-2016 SHORE Yr10 VIII were national champions and set GPS head of the river record with 6.08. So I think SHORE will dominate again, Just my two cents.

After reading this forum for the past two seasons, i couldn't help but join into the discussion.

Shore had a weaker junior 1st viii this year, but that will have no impact on their 1st viii's performance for the 2018 season. With 5 returning 2nd viii rowers, in which the crew was the 2nd fastest crew at HOTR (beating the riverview 1st viii time), as well as 3 returning 1st viii members, once again, they will have an incredibly strong 1st viii crew, who will certainly be out to take the throne 3 years in a row.

Despite this however, Shore, compared to previous years, are still weaker with these returning rowers, which is why i think the 2018 HOTR will be strongly fought, once again, between Shore and Riverview. Riverview has been able to outturn mediocre junior viii crews into successful race day performers the last 2 years, and with on going confidence in the program + a successful yr 10 squad, i think they will be able to take shore in the third year, as joeys did in 2015

Predictions:
1st- Riverview/Shore
2nd-Riverview/Shore
3rd- Scots

Indeed - favourites Shore got stuffed up by the ABC helicopter at the start.
Who told you that? Wally Barnier or Andy Ambrose?
Shore were poor in the viii right through the 70s and early 80s - crews were tsc as a dark horse winner, new favourites and probably equal favourites SGS in 79.
