Not sure if you listen to our podcast, but the rumours are the ARU are moving in to NSW HQ. Perhaps it is temporary until TG Milner is done. Perhaps they'll consider Ballymore. Regardless, its a significant development.

After the reported reorganisation of 17 staff at ARU HQ, is there anyone left to go to Moore Park to bunker down with Tahs HQ, (and NSWRU HQ, NSW Suhhies HQ and SJRU HQ.)

Probably hear more about this in coming months, but QRU has had the previous DA for Ballymore extended until 2020(was due to expire Aug16) and were taking EOI's for partners to develop the site which closed on 31 Jan 2017.

This gives scope of the concept:
http://www.redsrugby.com.au/Portals...velopment/Ballymore-InformationMemorandum.pdf

In a nutshell, this is what the previous DA was approved for:

  • Major Sporting Stadium, Office, Club, Indoor Sport and Recreation (Gymnasium & Pool Centre), Medical Centre, Outdoor Sport and Recreation (Playing Field) and Short Term Accommodation (over 5 stage
If you want to read the DA then just go to the BCC website: A002152269

Brisbane City FC have just announced a bid to join the A-League and are looking to play out of a refurbished Ballymore. Possibly late next year.

The bid’s investors would also fund a refurbishment of Ballymore to bring it to A-League standard, with the 18,000-capacity venue to host all of Brisbane City’s home games, including derbies.
The close proximity of their clubhouse at Spencer Park and plans for gourmet food trucks and improved public transport links could make Ballymore a distinctly different stadium experience to Suncorp Stadium.

Well they've certainly got one thing right, the shit-show that is getting to and from Ballymore is a widely different experience to Suncorp!

I'm at a loss why any new A-League team doesn't spend the cash on developing Perry Park. It's situated between the ICB, two main roads, a train station, a ferry stop could be added. More importantly, it's within walking distance of Gasworks/Teneriffe so food is all sorted.

What are the improved public transport links?

I think there could be improved public transport links across Breakfast Creek with Wilston Train Station, a more direct route between the two could make it 900m from station to stadium, which places it less then the distance between Suncorp and Roma St.

Also a bus station to facilitate a shuttle bus run between the Busway at Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital and the stadium.

Maybe also some parking @ Downey Park?

Cross-river Rail?

I remember having to bail on a match at Ballymore (I'm thinking Reds v CruSadists pre-season) on account of the public transport connections to & from Logan being a real pain in the ass. That said there was no "Park & Ride" that night as there is for a competition match at Suncorp & would presumably be for one at Ballymore so maybe I'm not comparing apples with apples.

@VinceRugari: Brisbane City have history at Ballymore too. Played NSL there in 1981 -- as a curtain raiser to QLD vs Italy rugby union! #aleague

The proximity of Ballymore to the Bris City clubhouse would also be very appealing to them.

Pack the fans in pre & post-match with a short hike over the creek for the games.

Only problem is that there isn't enough venues around ballymore & the bars at the ground are 10 people deep from the time the gates open

QRU have released some renders of the proposed development, $30million with a focus on ‘high performance’ rather then the stadium itself. Although McClean Stand would receive a makeover in the process..

Although these plans look remarkable similar to the plans devised in 2014, I think they may be the same ones.

Yep. They’re the same ones. They may have to digitally put in some soccer posts.

Getting the politicians on board is the big one, without them the plan is futile.

QRU chief executive Richard Barker said he'd had "pretty positive conversations" with several Queensland ministers about their blueprint, as well as Stadiums Queensland, which could manage the stadium itself.

Brief talks have also been held with Football Federation Australia, which is bidding to host the Women's World Cup in 2023 and could stage matches there.

A-League aspirants Brisbane City, who plan to play home games at Ballymore if approved to join the competition in 2019-20, are also heavily invested.

It is understood Rugby Australia would move some of its national women's programs to Brisbane if Ballymore's training facilities were brought to an elite standard
