Very interesting seeing Jared Barry playing for Balmain. May well be the boost they need to get their season back on track. As a St Pat's fan I know just how much difference the inclusion of one or 2 big, quality players can have in Subbies rugby. I'd very much love if Mosman stalwart D.Farrell was turning out for St Pats as we need all the help we can get. However, it is David Farrell running around for St Pats.

Things are going from bad to worse for St Pats this year. Dwindling numbers and a noticeable lack of talent compared to years gone by. I was holding out hope that Balmain would keep us off the bottom of the club championship standings but the past few weeks have proved that may not be the case. With Balmain making rapid improvements in Kentwell Cup, it does not bode well for St Pats future div 1 position. Also not helping the cause is the rubbish discipline of the club. 6 red cards already this season and a ridiculous amount of yellow cards with no sign of letting up. Everything from dissent to punching to pushing officials. Needless to say there has been some hefty penalties dished out, one incident received a 12 month suspension. St Pats have now exceeded the allowable limit of red cards and will likely be facing a large monetary and/or competition point fine.

May well be St Pats needs to have a season or two in div 2 to sort themselves out, because whatever they have been doing the past few seasons has not been good.

On the Jared Barry-Balmain front, I was under the belief that a player could not go from Shite Shield one year to Subbies the next??? I vaguely recall some clubs in the west wanting to register some Shute Shield players for one of the lower ranked club and being told it was against the amateur code.

Subbies 7 v Country 40

Country played with 14 men with 15 to go and at one stage had 13... dominated possesion and territory in the 2nd half and country were sensational in defence media ... Subbies scrum was smashed in the 2nd half and lineout was a shambles

Two red cards and a yellow in RAMs vs Hawkesbury clash. Any comments Prodigy on if they were over reactions?

Can anyone confirm reports that there were 3 red cards and 2 yellows at the Waverley vs Drummoyne Colts game yesterday. Surely that sounds excessive?

Confirmed... (I spoke to the ref of this game and he told the terrible tale)
2 x RC to Waverley, 1 x RC to Drummoyne - all for striking/ punching. When will players learn you can't throw and land punches and escape sanction?

Any idea on the context of these reds? Sounds like things got pretty heated at Waverley.

Nice day for a drive out to Camden. Unfortunately as mentioned earlier Subbies got flogged. I've never seen a team drop so much ball. They rarely got to 2nd phase. It was like watching the Waratahs.

Renegades went close yesterday. You must be happy with the progress?

It was progress of a sort, in that its nice to have more than 25 players turn up.

But here's the concern:

My starting front row - who played the whole game - average age was 41. My second row average age was 33.
My back row is a little on the green side at 21, and should really be dominating Second or Third Grade.

I'd rather the numbers above were a lot closer to 25.

There were 9 or 10 blokes at training on Wednesday - because fucking State of Origin.

We had to build into that game, because we don't train as a unit. The first half was us blowing out cobwebs, then we dominated the second half once we started to impose ourselves and overpower the students. If we trained together, we could have won that game handily.

They're typical Mac Uni: good set piece, fit, and fast. They scored most of those first half tries just through use of space on turnover. Their second half tries came from two failures to clean up bouncing ball on our part.

While it is great that we came back from 28 points down at halftime to get within 2, against a side who can hold us physically, it isn't going to work. Particularly if we're down by 50 at the break, to nil, and with two or three blokes injured in the meantime.

We could batter Mac Uni physically, and that isn't going to happen against a Canterbury or an Oatley. We don't have the pace, youth or fitness across the park to compete with Irish or Harlequins, or even Blacktown and Briars.

If we get numbers there, the problem is still going to be playing mostly Third Grade guys in Second Grade. And First Grade is still going to have a half a team who should be playing Second Grade.

I'm always about 4 injuries away from having majority Second Grade out there as well.

Its a dilly of a pickle.

No idea of the 'scale of seriousness' - this will be up to the ref who will write up the send off reports... but from what he told me it was a serious brawl just before a try was scored...

Wasn't at the game, but word is that they might have been a bit harsh. Epping red was for an alleged trip, however, the player was tackling the passer and hooked the receiver. Boys claim that it was not intentional and in the act of making a tackle.
Hawkesbury red could have gone either way according to my sources. Tackled a player jumping to take kickoff. No word on how the player landed.

The club will look at ways to defend our player and if video can support claim it was not intentional.

Not sure about the yellow though.

Does anyone know why Stockdale Cup (div 2 2nd grade) is showing hills and lindfield with only 5 games played?? Loos like the rest of the clubs grades played but not 2s??

Was talking to the Lindfield Pres on the weekend and from memory the match was abandoned because of a serious injury.

They've been cool about rescheduling the matches and their firsts are playing us at 11.00am at Lindfield on Sat 17th, while I think their seconds are playing at 12pm at Hills.

I hear the Hills-Lindfield game was abandoned when an ambulance was called and the player couldn't be moved in time to resume the match.

Beyond that, not much info.

My tipping is awesome, 4/10 this week.

Apparently a couple of belters in 3rd DIV with Iggies scoring in the 80 min to deny the Breakers in a highly entertianing affair with the lead change 5 times in front of a bumper crowd. Likewise Redfield had to dig deep to deny a resurgent Brothers who at one stage trailed 19-7. Brothers then put on 3 quick fire tries but Redfield leveled late with a converted try. Brothers in 1s wont be a push over in Round 2.

Well that's real interesting with Lindfield. Wonder how they will work their subs? Quite a strange move one would think but I suppose when else are they going to play it. Be interesting too see how they will go, they have a good colts side so providing they haven't gone away for the break we could see a fair amount of those boys used in these 2 games

Also whilst out there at the subbies rep game yesterday the Canterbury player that was selected was well not the greatest selection. He was a massive body that was put onto the wing, touched the ball 3 times dropped it once and tried to run over Country winger who tackled him with ease. I dare say he may not find himself playing against QLD Subbies. this was all in a solid 30min appearance as well mind you

Heard HAC had a red card 2min into their 3rd grade clash on Saturday for a closeline off the ball. not the best of ways to start a game is it

So from what I'm reading here the general theme seems to be that Subbies team is bad selections? Forwards too small, and backs can't catch/run? Does sound like the Tahs.

Div 2 has certainly shaped up as an interesting competition so far in the first half of the competiton.

Very interested to see how people view the 2nd half of the season. Hunters very strong in 1st and 3rd grades. UNSW obviously resurging after a tragic start. Mountains bouncing back in 4th grade after last year and their higher grades going well. HAC with all there stocks put into their 1st grade. Hills providing strong outfits this year although their 2nd Grade was shooting planks at the start of the season but are slowly building as we can see from recent results. Forest apparently smashed with injury and well then there is Beecroft, enough said and Linfield being more competitive then expected.
