A couple of bargains in there, but mostly reissues.......

I've had some money to burn after a couple of years of tight savings.

DINOSAUR JR quest 7 450 yen. awesome

MARK LANEGAN no bells LP 100 yen 700 yen
MARK LANEGAN BAND bubblegum CD this guy has been either a huge yes or a huge no for me. These two, the latter.

That Afghan Whigs album is great. Certainly their best.

Most Dinosaur Jr albums are great. J Macsis is an amazing musician.

Mark Lanegan made an album a few years ago with the main guy from Afghan Whigs, Greg Dulli. They were called Gutter Twins and the album was Saturnalia. It was pretty decent.

Some might think this is a worse use of thread space.

I recently watched the movie Hell or High Water staring Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine and Ben Foster.

Best movie I have seen in years. It also has an amazing sound track. I ordered in from Sanity and just keep playing it. So dam good.

Got a strong country feel, bit dirgey in places but all quality. There is a lot of Nick Cave instrumental in between the tracks that is mood music for the movie, some of that is out there. But the tracks all Gold.

Here's one from YouTube with movie footage. Recommend the movie if you haven't seen it. Was on Big pond a few weeks ago.

Supersense Festival in Melbourne has announced a pretty amazing lineup over 3 days:

Nazoranai (Haino/O'Malley/Ambarchi)
Spiritualized
The Ecstatic Music of Alice Coltrane
Acid Mothers Temple
Blonde Redhead
Master Musicians of Jajouka
JG Thirwell

They're also bringing back Overground for it which was pretty epic back in 2011 when it was launched at Jazz Fest.

It's essentially all the performers from the festival collaborating in various improv collectives.

The last one featured Tatsuya Yoshida, Faust, Tim Berne, Ches Smith, Mary Halvorson, Charlemagne Palestine, Tony Conrad, Fabulous Diamonds, The Necks, and many others I can't remember.

It seems like Melbourne festivals blew their wad in those first few years I lived down here and the lineups since have been weak.

Spritualized are great. I've seen them live a few times.

The best was part of the Vivid Festival in 2011 at the Sydney Opera House. They played Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space in full with a choir and orchestra.

It was amazing.

just curious how big of a deal the GO-BETWEENS were in Aus back in the 80's? Especially in Brisbane. They seem to be flavour of the month in the free west right now, new doco out, feature articles in the Guardian, just checked allmusic.com and it says "Aus's best band ever". Woah. That is a lofty claim. I've only ever heard "Cattle and Cane" single but from what I've read the first 6 lp's are all solid gold. Damn they are expensive on discogs though. Even the Cattle and cane 7" starts at $20 with only Aus and UK pressings. This leads me to believe they flew well under the radar in Aus, with little impact outside of there and the UK, hence small pressing runs, hense supply and demand, hence market forces, hence now the lp's sell online for the big bucks. Please don't tell me their stuff is loitering around record shop cut-out bins all over Aus...

^^^ What Reg said, but they didn't really become a big deal at home until Forster and McLennan re-formed the band.

16 Lovers Lane and Spring Hill Fair are two of my favourite albums, but to be honest they're unchallenging pop albums. You're pretty much spot on re: discogs because they were popular with critics in London and Sydney, but are now in high demand following their new wave of popularity amongst the same people that now occupy Paddington and West End.

The Go-Betweens have had recent the press because former members Brown, Morrison, and Wilsteed have gotten back together to play 16 Lovers Lane at the Sydney Festival (I only noticed last night when lining up for an unrelated show). Interesting to see how they get on, given that Wilsteed and the rest of the band didn't play nicely way back when. Would also love to hear what Forster makes of all of this after Morrison and Brown declined to take part in the re-formed Go-Betweens.

My boys introduced me to this over Christmas. Can't stop listening to it, really great music, not hard on the ears.

Dan is the lead out of The Black Keys, this is his solo project. Apparently the most downloaded thing on the planet last year.

Couldn't find a way to copy a link into this site, but copy and paste below into Google and you should find it.
