Its all relative and maybe not the words you would use.
The point being we did not buy a big group of stars as was stated.

Sharpe was probably, imo at the time without injuries, Australia's 4th choice lock.

Sure Gits was high profile

Poey was not a big name when he came here.

He toured with the Australian Schoolboys to the UK in December 2005 and on his return moved to Perth to join the Western Force for their inaugural 2006 season on an apprentice contract. After initially being unable to play Super Rugby having not yet turned 18, he made his run-on debut for the Western Force in their last game of the season against the Sharks in Durban.

Same with JOC (James O'Connor)
O'Connor became the youngest ever Super Rugby debutant at age 17, and the second youngest Wallaby in Australian rugby history at age 18

It was me who "asked" not "stated" becuase i couldnt remember the detail.

What i did remember that it made rugby headlines that the Force attracted a number of notable players becuase of WA money that i thought related to mining.

There was also a halfback as well whose dad played league - was it Henjack.

If I could wind back the clock and find the articles - the press coverage ould show it.

I'll say again - i want both teams in there, we hear about the pro active posiive work they are doing to stay, whilst we hear nothing from the ARU - just saying.

Not to rehash the James O'Connor thing as it was a long time ago but I'm about 99% sure he was enrolled and attended Hale School (a very expensive and exclusive boys school) whilst in Perth in 2008. How much time he spent there I'm not sure but like I said Im almost certain he attended but 9 years on I can't find anything in the interweb to back it up so will have to rely on the old brain.

I remember an article with him in the unform something like "school boy to make debut" along with a radio interview.

There was a lot of hype at the time of his debut among the force fans.

Maybe he should havespent more time at school, instead of beoming a young rock star.

It may have kept a level head on his shoulders and made him a better young man

Anyone think the rumours are true that the QC (Quade Cooper)'s in Macquarie Street are throwing an ARU ball in celebration of expected income streams..;):)

QCs are mainly in Phillip street.
Macquarie Street is reserved for medicos who avoid bankruptcy by Medicare and charging a fortune over and above.

True

There's a real art involved in managing to stay solvent when you earn a good income. Apparently.

That's actually a very interesting post.

Say I am an executive with decision making powers akin to a CEO.

Option 1 would delivery a lot of money and plenty to pay my salary. But is short sighted and in the long run has the potential to do harm.

Option 2 would delivery far less revenue, but build strong foundations for future growth and makes far more sense in the medium to long term. But funds will be limited and my pay could be reduced by 80%.

Over seeing the decision making process is a board. Under option 2 the reduced funding would additionally impact the boards budget meaning far less available to the board for things it wants to do.

Interesting positions.

Don't worry.

Force losing Hodgson's farewell game and the Saffas announcing who's being punted will spark it up again.

Lol. A bit mean there.

The latter will be pretty big though. If it actually does go through then it seriously puts the long term future of the SANZAAR partnership at risk. NZ might be stuck with either a trans tasman competition or to go it alone.

SARU are holding a meeting on 7 July to confirm the four SA teams for Super Rugby 2018:

http://www.planetrugby.com/news/july-7-meeting-for-sa-super-rugby-sides/

By that time it'll have been considered by the Franchise Committee (6 x Super Rugby entities), Non Franchise Committee (14 x Currie Cup teams) & Exec Council so presumably by then it'll be a done deal that just needs final & formal SARU endorsement. Again I'm struck by how the supposedly chaotic SARU has dealt with the issue so much better than ARU appears to have done.

Apparently because they have a Plan B to put two axed teams in Pro12 comp if you believe the media. Whether truth in that remains to be seen.

^^^^

Just complementing the post above and adding a bit to it, what a total joke of a process this 'EGM charade' has turned into.

http://www.espn.com.au/rugby/story/_/id/19669076/aru-chief-bill-pulver-resign-tuesday-egm-necessary

Pulver knows full well no one in that EGM room - let alone all of them - is going to stand up and say 'Bill, you must go'. Most RU delegates will bring handbags and a bit of wet lettuce here and there. They like snarly little anonymous leaks to the media, but never effect any substantive change. They essentially like the system the way it is as it preserves power and privilege the way it is.

Pulver's set up a nice little artificial straw man with this 'I would resign tomorrow' so as to appear 'deferential to the will of the RUs'. Though nothing could be further from the truth. He and Clyne will never admit a single mistake.

Reading the article and comments from Bill. For me anyway there was little acknowledgement of structural issues in rugby in Australia.

Further any acknowledgement or almost none of the need for a plan B.

There is little point in changing Bill if we only get Bill 2 to replace him.

I guess I am looking for some kind of message coming out of the bunker indicating they understand we are hurting and accepting they need to change things.

The people who run the game are not actually idiots.

The problem is, I have pointed it out many times, of all the things that could be changed to make the game more popular in Australia, only a minor proportion are within the power of the ARU to change them. Some others require all stakeholders to agree to work together. Why don't people get a bit agitated about this?

Maybe for that to happen we would all have to admit that our clubs are not as important as the Soup franchises, and the success of the national team is more important than the Soups. When will that start to happen?

But of course, and I do not care what any old or young fogeys say to the contrary, by far the two biggest problems are squarely within the remit of the World body. Namely, the Laws of the Game, and the lack of any system of transfer fees.
