Jeez this is an appalling refereeing performance. He ruled a scrum to the USA when we were on the verge of a ruck turnover, and the USA just scored from a clear shepherd.

Nice to finally hoist a trophy, even if it isn't one that really counts for anything.

Our defence was the highlight of that final, a couple of crucial last-ditch tackle attempts saved our bacon.

The return of Holland will be big for us this year - the ball he threw to set up our first try was an absolute peach.

very good win.

we have a good young team on our hands here, just need them to stay together for a number of years.

would love for them to persuade Hutchinson back for another season, with the likelihood he will be far down the outside backs pecking order at the Rebels. DHP > Koroibete > Naivalu > Maddocks > English > Tupou and perhaps even Ratu if he is given a contract

FINALLY! We've won three (I think) this year. Octoberfest and Central Coast.

I know, as soon as I posted that I realised we've won a few already.

But this one seems the most competitive.

And it was great to see another chapter written in the greatest rugby rivalry of all - New Zealand and Chile. The South Americans got the best of them here - can't wait for the next installment!

McTaggart has come a long way very quickly. I rated him as just a solid schoolboy footballer until I saw him put in a great performance for GPS 2nd XV against CHS on a horrible June afternoon last year paving the way for his eventual schoolboys selection. Very fast and elusive, should be very successful in 7s.

Pietsch, McTaggert, and Simmonson graduated from Kings, Joeys, and Newington respectively in 2016. Tough year to be defending at fullback when one of those three got in a bit of space.

Watching the Oceania 7s now (link below). Our women are playing Tonga, who are fielding at least two players who would be 100kg+.

I wouldn't say the strategy is working well for them (we could get to 100), but one player went on a great 40m run where she ran over at least 5 tacklers. It's been fun viewing:

Adelaide fielded a player in the AON Uni 7s, Eva Karpani, who was 'larger' than the usual lithe players we have grown use to in Aussie Womens 7s. She wouldn't be 100kgs but she was powerful. She also had fantastic feet, was surprisingly fast and a solid work rate. I'd be interested to see how she'd go at the higher level as a shock weapon.

Always a sad way to go out but I’d argue it’s a good thing. We need less Ed Jenkins style players in our 7’s team. He is too gym heavy, lacks pace and doesn’t have a strong skill set suited for 7’s. He has just benefitted from being not quiet good enough to be in a super rugby squad

Driving past Waikato Stadium the other day & there's a fair bit of work going on, what appears to be a much bigger concourse/ bus access prepped for concertina & a team of guys marking out the training field into what looked like sites for food & beverage stall sites & walkways. Couldn't see inside but I'd imagine there's a fair bit going on there, too, to set up the "party" & "family" zones. On the fun police front the Council has extended the no-alcohol zones to beyond staggering distance & the cops have ruled out breath-testing people at the gates or lining up for refreshmenuts but the four-drink limit will be strictly enforced. Organisers have promised there'll be real beer & wine available as well as the usual swill (at a price, obviously). All in all its looking pretty promising.
