My sources from Sydney Rowing club suggest that the St Augustine's import will be rowing in the Shore 2nd VIII as one of their members has been struck down with a terrible illness in the past week. This is interesting seeing as Shores dominance in this class may see a detrimental end with the added boy only getting a few sessions in the boat.

Disregarding my immature dictum into this astute forum, I find the outset of your conclusion overlooking the evidence provided by formerly contested regattas. Although the details of the St Augustine’s import are unknown and unlikely, I am confident that such alterations will not have any effect on SHORE’s 2nd VIII. This impression is supported in the margins of victory of which the crew holds (particularly at their last regatta). At the Sydney Rowing Club Regatta, SHORE’s 2nd VIII established a 6 second victory across the field. Their time of 6:11.13 also placed them 4th in the 1st VIII division, ahead of St Josephs, Kings, Scots, and Grammar. Due to this evidence (and with the expectation of SHORE not importing a variable rower if they are importing at all), I am comfortable with hypothesising SHORE’s 2nd VIII will not “see a detrimental end” to their season.

This rumour going around about a St Augs rower needs to be put to bed. There are no new kids in the shed in the senior crews. Not one. No one has heard of a St Augs kid at the school let alone at rowing. The kids who actually Row in that shed would be best placed to know - and they don’t, trust me.

It makes no sense anyway. Their program doesn’t exactly need help from externals.

Strange don't you think that the Kings 2nd VIII doesn't make it into the a final then somehow the Kings 1st IV is able to win by 2 seconds when only 1 week before this race they lost to Shore by 3 seconds. Hmm and now you say that the stroke and 2 seat were different. This stacking business has gone to a complete new level, now schools will give up racing in the 8's just to get a win in the 4's. I looked at the Results page and the names do not change for the Kings 1st IV from Heat to Final. This is actually disqualification worthy as the same situation happened at PLC where Joeys 2nd VIII raced with 2 1st VIII members in the boat without specifying names which meant they won that race (Shore 2nd VIII was not there) and they were removed from the results. If Shore 1st IV want to follow this up they will have consequently won this race as Kings will be removed from the results. If Shore does not complain i hope someone else does because this is disgraceful.

I was pilloried on the 2015-16 thread for pointing out the rampant substitution going on in the Fours. No-one believed it, no-one cared. Particularly done in regattas with heats and finals. Glad you're all suddenly so woke.

SHORE will always do whatever it takes. Far, far beyond what other schools will allow for teenage boys. 2015 was a devastating aberration for them, I would assume that an outbreak of typhoid, malaria, swine flu, bird flu or dengue fever would simply bring on whatever adjustments to crew personnel that are required in order to win.

Scots newington and and joeys weren't too good. Shores vid wasn the best but they looked the fastest in some shots. Same with Riverview. Kings looked good in areas as well but I don't thi k they'll be able to hold their rate past the 750m mark and will die out, whilst shore and Riverview will (unless this typhoid problem is actually legit)

The typhoid story is solid. Plus there have been other illnesses in the Shore 1st VIII which haven't been made public.

The buzz around View it's that it's "their turn" to break the drought much as SJC did in 2015. They have certainly been improving over the past few years to the point where they are a definite threat, but I don't know enough about this particular crew to judge whether they have the mental fortitude to overcome the Shore machine. The View 1st crew has made big strides over the long term, but results this season have been very inconsistent (only made the B final at Gold Cup, right outside their own shed? seriously?)

Likewise Kings and Newington who have been up there in 2nd or 3rd position plenty of times this season, but unable to find whatever it takes to bring about the upset win.

Joeys have had their most inconsistent season for a long time. Some impressive improvements, followed by a scratching or a dud race, only to return to the placings in the next one. My prediction is they'll either come close second or distant 6th as that's been this season's pattern.

Shore have 2nd VIII rowers who are the equal of 1st VIII crew in pretty much any school. And whoever they put in that boat, the stakes are so much higher for Shore boys than for any other crew, that must surely be a "persuader" like no other.

I'd like to know something else about Shore; where did their 3rd VIII suddenly spring from? Haven't had one all season, but today they suddenly do. I hope boat holders are also checking ID.

I'd love to see Kings, View, Joeys or New all jockeying for the medals and some fresh faces on the podium. Good luck to all.

Well so far I reckon Shore is having its worst HOTR in years. Regardless of who wins the big two, it's been a brutal morning for them.

NO WINS in the lower Fours AT ALL. In fact, NO PLACES. 4th, 4th, 4th, That's gotta hurt.

The win in 1st Four only emphasises where their focus and resources go: to the top crews.

True they had wins in Year 10s but oh my! Kings 1st Yr 10 VIII just did the unimaginable and came from behind to beat Shore. Last crew I saw do that was in 2015 MR.
