Paine was mentioned on TV as not being in the leadership group.

Renshaw, Burns and Bailey mentioned as possibly getting a call-up

Hold on: what about the money being sent to Victoria

They've wasted so much money in the past 15 years, I've always put this down to their general incompetence and complete absence of organisational strategy. They're so inept, it's hard to imagine them making any strategic decision whether honest or dishonest. I think in a court, they'd almost be unfit to plea.

I think this has gone from a sporting crisis to a national crisis considering that both Malcolm and Bill Shorten have made statements on it:

Cricket is pretty core to our national identity.

In other words, Steve Smith basically just shat on our national identity.

Poor bloke let the pressure get to him and fucked up what would have been a great career.

It will be dealt with accordingly but it's sport at the end of the day and doesn't need to involve the Prime Minister and the alternative.

Haven't they got other more pressing things to deal with. We had to listen to over 2 weeks about Barnaby Joyce's hi jinks, which has had far more serious and lasting consequence on peoples lives and regard in which we hold our leadership of our country.

They want to be sure their is no ball tampering going on in their respective parties.

Distractions usually suit leaders.

Hope too that there aren't too many short memories especially when it comes to Shane Warne and current Australian selector Mark Waugh, they received cash from 'John the Bookmaker' back when they were playing, the scandal even has its own Wikipedia page.

Anyway there will be punishments as there should be, hopefully realising how stupid and ineffectual the idea was and confessing straight up and not trying to cover it up will at least be looked on favourably and the ICC won't have to sit thru 6 hours of appeals.

I suspect however that the punishments will be many times more harsh than those received by Shane Warne and Mark Waugh and that was to do with gambling.

I find it quite odd that the ICC penalty for slow over rates involves a 2 match suspension for the captain, but the ICC penalty for a captain organising premeditated cheating involves a 1 match ban.

Let's hope that CA take a much stonger line - which I think they will in respect of Smith, Warner and Bancroft.

One thing for sure, Cameron Bancroft has now appeared in two press conferences in his 8 test career and assuming that he ever plays for Australia again he should never appear at another one. He's certainly not the sharpest tool in the shed and he's embarrassed himself and his country at both appearances.
