The position with losing sponsors is unfortunate. A company I worked for had a somewhat similar situation and addressed it by getting on the front foot with all important relationships and contacting them on the same day. Sutherland may have done this before heading to SA.

The Commonwealth Bank have removed Steve Smith as a brand ambassador, can't think of an Australian corporation less entitled to pass judgement.

Although Malcolm Turnbull has show enough chutzpah for a lifetime over this, he should stick to worrying about who is tampering with Barnaby Joyce's balls.

As for Karl Stefanovic a word to the wise when a Kardashian starts talking about cricket ball tampering that will be your cue to open you mouth.

The lunch show in South Africa is talking about how hawkeye and their cameras work. This is a new low in sports broadcasting.

It's franchise-based but, yes, the original 10 stores were in Melbourne if I recall my induction video correctly.

those franchise agreements must be pretty loose if they allow NZ franchisee's to kick us when we're down....if only the kiwis had a business here run by Aussies - oh thats right they did: Ansett.

As predicted, Alan Jones now advocating for ICC penalties to stand, CA penalties way too harsh, young sportsmen victimised, Sutherland and "the unemployable Pat Howard" to blame for it all, etc, etc, etc.

The last part might be correct by the way; remember Peter Nevill being dropped for being "too quiet" behind the stumps and replaced by the Warner-like Matthew Wade.

None of which absolves Smith, Warner and Bancroft for their actions. Remembering also that Australia would play very little cricket in the next 6 months, so the bans are effectively 6 months and 3 months rather than 12 and 9.

^^^^^^ if any of them get off because CA fucked up proceduraly heads should roll starting with Sutherland.

Just to cheer you blokes up further, NZ have overtaken you in the Test rankings on the back of beating Ringinland 1-0, a close-run thing but NZ held on for the draw yesterday c/- Latham's 83 & the bowlers (de Granndhomme 45, Wagner 7 in ~2 hours, Sodhi a dogged 50) & bad light which was kinda inevitable when the clocks went back an hour but the start time only went back 30 minutes.

Smith announces that he won't be appealing and accepts the CA punishment as a deterrent to future behaviour. He's shown more class and more personal responsibility for his actions than just about every politician and business leader who's ever been caught out doing the wrong thing.

As the ACA President (the lamentable Greg Dyer) claims that Smith and Bancroft shouldn't have been open and honest in their initial press conference. Then claims that sledging is part of the game.

And we wonder why we are in this mess.

^^^^^^^^^ still rankles. Underarm was poor sportsmanship but what Dyer did was flat out cheating. I think it's the same Test where Hadlee had Whitney plumb lbw but it wasn't given & you got away with a draw.

Bancroft also not appealing, if Warner does so now, win or lose, I hope CA has the balls to just never offer him another contract.

Having someone like Greg Dyer as head of the ACA does that organisation no credit. We've seen his ethics on the cricket field - spilling the ball from one glove, watching roll across the ground to the other glove and then hold the ball up to claim a catch.
