Great trials Souths v Easts. Souths generally heavier in the packs were run around in sun by Easts but tackling at the end tired Easts. Good hit out. Easts could do with more players. Woollahra artificial turf looking great just topped off with cork infills.
Well as expected the two teams that have perfected the art of recruiting/buying players with scholarships are the two best colt clubs. Unless the rules are level this will continue indefinitely and frankly nswrugby does not care ask Farr Jones. How the other clubs can live with this farce...
At the Easts- Norths colts game many scrum decisions perplexed both packs. At least the ref was consistently wrong about rule 20 and wheeling. No team lost the advantage.
But one thing repeatedly ignored in colts games and particularly exploited by Randwick and University throughout this...
Easts scraped home with a draw against Norths after overtime. First win ever seen after 50 minutes of neither team scoring. Yet Easts could not have such a bad day again - no conversions of 4 tries and no penalty goals. The scrummaging was poor and so many passes rushed in front of the...
Country Colts played Easts Colts on Saturday after Grade game at 5pm under lights at Woollahra. Country Colts got off to great start, scoring first and pushing Easts forwards off the ball. But then Easts came back and were never headed again. Very entertaining game of running rugby and strong...
Every club/school is entitled to do their best to field a strong team. That is competition. The point is what serves rugby the game. A competition that is lopsided with blowout wins will doom the competition. Supporters of top teams never see a problem. Rugby should be expanding to the...
Well while some are congratulating clubs with rep players for their wonderful recruiting campaign rather than lament the inequality of the colt teams in the competition lets think about The Scots College. Remember last June the Sydney Morning Herald published complaints by Farr Jones about...
Are they kidding ? Two South African and two NZ refs join northern hemisphere refs to control the World Cup games but no Aussie ref good enough. Given interpretations particularly of the scrum Wallabies face an uphill battle. Things just get harder.!
If you are the coach of Penrith whose teams are thrashed by cricket scores playing teams that are wealthier and are spiked with state schoolboys, what tactics do you advise. That is right play in the opponent's face. To respond to this crisis by demoting Penrith is to deny that club a fair go...
So the moderator of Sydney Colts calls objections to farcical results of 124 to nil etcetera as not being for the good of the game , "socialism" . What about "unfairness" to clubs not having stacks of money or scholarships. Rugby is just for those clubs; bugger the rest ?
Its hard for...
Penrith 2nd colts have historically done better than 1sts because it picks it's best players there. Who can blame them with the system designed as it is ?
So Syd Uni in week 2 were around the 40 points cap and have been so for sometime with a little manipulation.
Simple answer to even up the competition is to reduce team cap to 30.
Did Penrith smashed by Syd Uni then Manly have any chance - why do they bother ? Boys no doubt encouraged to be...
Syd uni 1sts did use 8 reserves including some players who played earlier (a red haired fellow) ? How many can they use ? It still defies me why a player in Syd uni colts stays there if he is unlikely to get a full game. He will not be noticed by anyone keeping a bench warm.
