I am interested in hearing of best player award winners at Eastwood and Sydney Uni (and other clubs for that matter). Anyone have any info?

Doesn't seem to be quite in the spirit of the rules then if Colts 1 players (who haven't played lower grades all season) suddenly are selected in lower grades (with 4 games to go), only to be substituted and reappear in first grade colts as substitutes on the same day.

What are the rules for players qualifying to play in the finals for lower grade Colts if their first colts are not in the semis? Seemed some unusual substitutions at Concord on Saturday, in numbers and timing.

Hello Huge Arse. I wasn't having a go at Uni, and I did not mean to infer that Uni are doing anything wrong in having such well credentialled players on Colts 2 - I was just saying that Uni is the benchmark mark in Colts, and the others are only pretenders

You don't know how you are really travelling in Colts until you play Uni. After a few trial matches Parra were looking competitive, then came Round 1 against the Sydney Uni Allstars. An Australian u/20's training camp squad member is in their Colts 2's. Not sure what that says about their Colts...

Thanks Runner, but I think your maths is out. If shield competitions have been completed from 1963 to 2012 (inclusive), then 50 titles have been awarded already.

I believe John Papahatzis was the coach in 5 of St Edmund's victories.

By my reckoning the competition just completed was the 50th running of the Waratah Shield. Maybe an opportunity was missed to promote the 2012 final as a milestone worthy of more attention in the media? Maybe the Waratahs could have attended? Maybe it could have been staged as a curtain-raiser...

Might be getting ahead of myself, but the draw seems to be opening up nicely for Oakhill. A second shield championship (first 1994) seems to be beckoning.
