Not necessarily so..... At the time we needed to confirm 2 teams for the season we were unable to due to lack of numbers. On the 7th July we only had 32 registered players. When the season started we could put a Halligan's team on the field for round one but still uncertain if we could...
Yeah - 4 weeks isn't much time to rally the troops and get them ready for playing. I suspect a lot of guys will have enjoyed taking it easy so much during lockdown that they'll find it tough to get motivated to come and train.
Yeah, date could move. Interesting times.
I had confirmed from subbies that there would be a training and trials period before the start of the season. If we start first week of May I would expect the season to start early June giving 4 weeks to get ready.
All training and games shutdown till the first week of May.
What then? Start the season straight away? I suggest that's unlikely, still need to train people up to minimise injury. Season to start 4 weeks later?
I think it's a certainty and hope the decision is made before clubs fork out $000's unnecessarily for insurance and fees.
If they don't the season will be decimated anyway as covid wreaks havoc with clubs being unable to front teams and having to forfeit.
Thanks Eeyore but I think we'll be 'right.
I remember 6 months ago when our 2nd grade failed to turn up to play Beecroft but we had a 3rds, Colts and Firsts. Like I've said before, commitment is the problem not numbers.
Yeah, it's been a slow start due to the rain butt Feb is always a bit light on.
I'm hoping Div 4 can get to being a 3 team comp but not sure how many clubs have those numbers. Any idea?
It's hard to plan for commitment, or lack of. We've had 90 registered seniors and still found it tough to get 45 guys to turn up on a Saturday. There's too many options for guys these days and if something better turns up they're off.
I'd like to see Div 4 still have 3 grades with 3rd grade...
Agreed. It's mainly about confidence for these young guys. For the majority of them they've only ever played against other school boys. To suddenly be playing against older, bigger guys is a big step up for them. Once they get their confidence up they're good to go.
Selection would be based...
