Agreed. But perhaps it should be considered that the second point in your second paragraph, ie time of enrollment, is the most selective part of all for all schools. This policy genuinely narrows the demographic of children and can't be considered constructive or positive for a school i wouldn't...

Not in Straight - earlier today you quite emphatically posted that 'Shore is NOT a selective school'. I'm not wanting to get into an argument here but i beg to differ. In almost every possible interpretation of the word 'selective' bar two (academic and rugby) Shore is clearly selective as are...

Disturbingly i see we are on a double Nelson today re page number. Is this a positive or negative sign for tonight? More relevantly I do think Shore's rugby problems are broadly demographically centered. Unfortunately these in balances can give other sports a massive leg up.

Mr Providence, Sorry you feel the Names of Shores 1st 15 are too Anglo and this is what is holding them back. Perhaps the problem lies with the Schools that seem to be able to attract Non Anglo & even international students from developing countries. Mr Not in Straight, perhaps i wasn't...

Rugby is not Shore's raison d'être. Former Flanker, i think you need to re read 'Cash's' 1771 post. I think his last sentence says it all and reflects on your quote re Shore's 'raison d'etre'. You write in 1779 about Shores non selective approach by mentioning 'first in best dressed' etc...

Scots blowout....by 30 Newington blowout.....by 40 Kings to overcome resistance to record a narrow win late on.

It is a bloody fine line indeed. Most GPS schools seem to have failed at times to get the balance right. What has surprised me in recent years is why Kings and Riverview have not taken up the IB whilst clearly the HSC in NSW has had declining relevance / respect from tertiary institutions. I...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2015

I'm thinking the direct reverse of HSC / IB tables over the last 2 years; So First to last; Very close run finish between Joeys and Scots.....and improving Riverview and Kings mid table.....stagnant SHORE and Newington bringing up the rear....staying focused on the books and getting worse...

Personally i would be more interested in seeing the institutions (and dates of attendance), of all varieties, that Riverview students attend post school.

I think you are probably right IS. I actually met Cheshire just prior to his death, very interesting chap. Most people seem to put him alongside CB Fry as the two greatest Englishmen of the 20th century. I would have Fry ahead by a nose. I think Roxburgh was referring to 'releasing' the...

2 old boys; Richard Branson and Leonard Cheshire (independent observer on the bombing of Nagasaki) It was his EXPLICIT reference to sport in schools being 'Regressive' that caught my attention especially in 1923! Relate this to the current GPS system and he could have been watching...

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2014

Interestingly in 1923 one Mr J.F Roxburgh started a new 'modern school to focus on the individual'. He went on to dismantle the 'Regressive focus on sport and house structures' at traditional private schools. In several of his later writings he continued to reflect on sport in schools as...

Thoughts for the weekend; New V Kings closer than what one might think. NEW by 15 Joeys V View, View by 30+, I think this is a special View team. It could be 40 - 50 perhaps. Scots V SHORE. I think this game and result has the ability to cause much angst on this thread next week! If it's a...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

I understand the title of this thread but over the past god knows how many pages people seem more concerned about the 'breaking of rules'. I'm pretty sure few here actually want to discuss AAGPS 'rules' in full. The broader subject might be terribly awkward. 'Scholarships' are though only one...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Judging by the recently posted SHORE line up for last weekend perhaps the school would be better served by widening its gene pool. Some do say they are trying to which if correct is excellent news for the boys at SHORE in their broad education going forward. Certainly what was posted here...
