    2020 schools rowing

I couldn't agree more. Which school was it 46 years ago?

    2020 schools rowing

Cranbrook row out of St George shed on Cooks River, but got tubs at Rose Bay. Good on them putting two eights out there. Need to start somewhere. Yes, there was a light tail breeze. Most importantly it looked fair. View and Kings stepped up big time from last week. Shore still dominant...

    2020 schools rowing

I agree, it's refreshing for school boy rowing with new kids on the block and they are competitive too. Their Y10 VIII won back to back Gold at Nationals. They are definitely building and seem to have more depth

    2018 schools rowing

Any rumours of GPS boys trialling for AUS Junior Team?

    2018 schools rowing

Low entries have many reasons. VIC had their HOTR on the same weekend and only a few bothered to fly up. NSW schools, seem to focus on smaller boats for the boys who are interested. As you say, it was still high quality although low numbers. I agree the SB 8+ was great. A highlight for me was...

    2018 schools rowing

Who would have thought that a St Aug boy is of interest to Shore a few years ago. I am watching that program for a while and they are creeping up in Yr10 8+s as well. Not enough depth I guess, but time will tell. BTW, I am sure that boy in question is Yr12, so unlikely to swap school sheds.

Agree, let's look at single final at trials: 1st QLD TSS 2nd NSW St Augustine's 3rd NSW Shore from 1st VIII 4th NSW Shore from 2nd VIII 5th NSW Newington 6th VIC MGS 7th TAS Launceston 8th NSW UTS (former QLD) 9th NSW Kings You find a couple of more super AAGPS scullers in the B Final. The...

    2018 schools rowing

I think Winter rowing is a good thing for skill development, particular for Y9s learning sweep and Y10/11 to get some single sculling done. I don't think 2-3 sessions burns people out. I think GPS sheds and some girls schools run their senior kids into the ground for one HotR race. Then it can...

    2018 schools rowing

I agree LTR, the pathway 8+ is a waste of time at least for the boys. The girls seem to get competitive crews on the water. It's official: http://www.rowingaustralia.com.au/2017/05/01/2017-u23-junior-and-para-world-championship-crews-announced/

Correction LuvToRow, the UTS rower got dropped for a St Augustines boy who was second in the single. The time in the final race was almost the same as last year i.e. 6:09. Because this is a scratch combo I think they can improve big time. Interestingly only a boy's 2x and 4x got picked. The...

    2017 Schools Rowing

What I found more interesting is that New spends so much time in singles, doubles and in Canberra they rowed fours as well as the eight. You would think that most will focus on the big boat only, to get it right. I guess it's the Kinross influence, a different approach and interested what it...

    2017 Schools Rowing

I wasn't aware that naming a seat (and yes one was wrong) was an offence. I have deleted my original comment and apologise for possibly breaching forum rules. Let's talk rowing then...and I will be more cryptic in the future. <Mods Note: Wise move>

    2016 Schools rowing

In theory, the fastest SB 8+s in Australia like Shore, Scotch, MGS or last year Nudgee. All of them are capable of doing the cut off time of 5:51.7 in neutral conditions. Scotch did it in 2013, sponsored by one family. Cost is one thing, other commitments another, let alone a GPS Schools...

    2016 Schools rowing

Agree re NSW, however four from the 1st Shore VIII got picked as quad in Sydney RC colours. The VIC 8+ was very strong, however the 5:51 were in strong tailwind and the best time in neutral conditions was 5:58. At the end they were a scratch crew - like NSW - from Geelong/Wesley/Hawthorn and one...
