Super Rugby Rnd 1 2020: Sunwolves v Rebels

I’m thinking the next few weeks are the most important in Ainsley’s career. Some poor performances and he easily could see himself well and truly on the outer.

It’s a solid team, although I never realise what Cottrell has that others don’t.

I am hoping for a big win against that side

Yeah, there are some good players in their team but they've only been together a couple of weeks.

We definitely need a bonus point win here. Most good teams will be targeting five points when they play the SW, if we don't get one it puts us behind from the start.

Solid team but still some odd selections:

Why move Koro to the right (or wrong) wing?
How do either of RH-P or Cottrell start ahead of Jones?
Why have two specialist backs on the pine with a 6/2 bench? Surely you would pick a halfback and someone that can cover a few positions.

Wessells does seem to love the idea of a big backrow. He played dual blindside flankers quite a few times last year. Cottrell played a fair bit at 7, IIRC.

As a Tahs fan, I have absolutely never understood the Jones hype -- pre or post his departure, and I'd select RHP, Cottrell and Philip over him.

They have a mongrel and a physicality that he doesn't.

Jones just reminds me of another Dennis or Simmons. Workmanlike.

I would say that Dennis and Simmons have both had pretty decent careers, wouldn't you agree?

Of course, as has Jones. But that isn't particularly relevant to my post.

Just saying I don't get the hype behind him. Hyperbolic - of course - but some people refer to him as the second coming round these parts.

My point is I wouldn't plonk Jones in that starting side. I would however give Dennis a start over Cottrell and Simmons over RHP.

Gotta remember, Jones was here at the start. Same deal with Laurie - mightn't be the best players in their positions, but good clubmen and deserving of our one-eyed support

Jones is right up there with the best defensive line out players in the comp, also a massive work rate across all facets, not just someone that hits rucks. Problem he has is that he’s got hands like feet.
