We don't have the depth or money to be competitive with 5 teams in a TT it would soon be cricket scores.

NSW is your biggest market, you are not competing with the Waratahs, you are enhancing the rugby brand, a game each weekend in Sydney/more newspaper inches/a local derby/greater long term sponsorship, protect your patch before worrying about Barbarian sides in Adelaide.

Assuming one of those teams is Force funded by Twiggy how do we not have the money for 4 teams in a TT but have the money for 6 teams in the proposed Domestic comp? I get the depth issue although as Mclennan has previously mentioned he is open to the depth being increased by NZ players or further abroad. The same depth will also be an issue for this domestic comp particularly this new NSW team. Where do they come from? How do they compete with the current Brumbies team and a Reds team with a stack of young players who will be better again in 2021?

How will 3 games each week satisfy the public and Broadcasters and therefore help to grow the game? Thats seems to be a monumental step backwards if that is all our 2nd tier provides each week.

Based on recent results, a couple of Aus teams are going to be receiving a spanking in the near future regardless oof whether it’s a 10 team TT competition, 15 or 18 team Super Rugby, or even a 5/6/10 team Australian competition.

All that matters is what can we work with now, and the best format moving forward............ there’s only one answer and that’s kicking off a 10 team trans Tasman competition with the already existing franchises.

No, the Australian market is miniscule, The Rebels and Brumbies need to be folded, pool our resources, we need to chase the European pay TV breakfast broadcast market, Fund three competitive teams, winners are grinners. the only answer is kicking of an 8 Team Trans Tasman competition with Aussie winners keeping our Wallabies here. :)

The NSW Waratahs are the provincial team for the state of NSW. I dont think it works to have the NSW Platypus team running in the same comp, its confusing (playing in GRR, now thats a different matter). Having City and Country works or Western Sydney or the Northern beaches - dosent matter what we call the second team. IMO it devalues the brand of the Tahs having a second NSW team in the same comp.

As QH said before Depus upset him. Perhaps the Tahs and Reds only play in a small SOO series like League.

How about an Eastern Waratahs against the West Sydney X. The current Waratahs might capture the coastal areas of Sydney and some country areas but for western Sydney fans/ potential fans do not remotely support or identify with them.

Well like any competition only 3 teams will actually be competitive at any one time but you have a reciprocal arrangement with NZ for distribution of player and a salary cap. That’s how you get a sustainable and balanced competition.

Mate this is what broadcasters are suggesting and pushing- this isn’t just some personal thought bubble I’ve concocted.

Okay, then explain to me how we are going to have 5 competitive teams in a TT, this is your idea.

You can’t, there’s always losers........... but teams rise and fall, unless you’re the Crusaders.........

It’s still the best option.

An all Australian competition with more teams we can’t afford, yet with less teams overall, with a significant reduction in quality and viewership just seems daft.

Ahhhhh. didn't know the Kiwis had agreed to that.

Well, Japan won't be an option either way. They've just announced that they'll have at least 25 teams spanning three divisions with the top two being fully professional and the third at best semi-pro. All with academy structure and age grade sides. They are also looking at introducing a Cup competition similar to the FA Cup in England. So, yeah.

A TT competition is the simplest and easiest structure to get up and running in the shortest timeframe. That's what we;ll end up with and continuing to discuss anything other than that is unfortunately moot beyond that of a though exercise. What we need to do now is figure out means toward strengthening our franchises. Both on and off the field.

I'd like to see them do something similar to the 'Own the Force' initiative on a team by team level. Either way we need to look for innovative means to turn things around.

We could look to allow the Force to recruit with no foreign player cap while either folding the Rebels in the Brumbies and support the entry of a PI squad or sign agreements with the PI to make the Rebels a psuedo-PI franchise.

Why exactly are 5 teams in a TT comp the best option?
Where are these players coming from?
