Are people seriously discussing izzy not warranting the adulation that is being heaped in his direction?
Unbelievable.
He is scoring tries that others aren't. That is a fact. If others were scoring them, then there would be zillion tries being scored each week, and that isn't happening, because no one else is doing what he is doing on such a regular basis which is: read the play and be on the spot when he needs to be.
If it were easy, then everyone would be doing it.
As a fullback (or winger), it is his job to run into holes and he is doing this better than anyone else at the moment.
He is one of the best footballers I have ever seen.
I just wish he was at a team that wasn't so easy to dislike

IIRC Foley was there, and in a classic AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) inspired move, Izzy took the ball to ground instead of passing.
For all the grief that AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) receives from certain posters, he did achieve a great pilfer and turnover.

On one viewing of that game my conclusion is that the result was a fair indication of the gap between the two teams. Rebels intensity in the first half was good, and they hung in admirably (certainly a better job than the Reds a few weeks back), but in the end, they got worn down and the class of the likes of Beale and Folau took over.
Waratah's generated far more opportunities through enterprise and aggression and were able to capitalise on a few of these. Rebels don't have the same level of quality and couldn't generate as many opportunities or take advantage of the half chances created. Not a criticism, just a statement of fact.
Beale was very good, especially in the second half, and I really don't get the criticism of Folau? Seven tries in four games is fantastic, whether others did the lead up work or not. He's never going to be perfect all the time, who is, but hell he brings a lot to the table. The right winger Alofa has got some light feet hasn't he, another one who knows where the tryline is.
For the Rebs, I thought Jones and McMahon did some good work. The latter is one to keep an eye on.

this has always been our problem. in the games where the half chances stick we win. we do create chances often but either execution or option taking let us down. i don't know whether thats the coaching or the players skill set at fault, although one would think that the job of the former is to improve the latter.

On Folau, you don't score 8 tries in four games through luck. Blistering start to the season, as an outside back he's currently the best in the world.

Agreed. Something that's doing my head in is Jones' ball security in contact though. He's got great hands, one of the few rugby players I've seen who's willing/able to stick his dukes out and go up to get a ball above his head. And yet somehow he manages to spill the ball when he gets belted at least once a game, normally twice. Surely this is a technical issue that can be fixed?
Has anyone got a good stats website? I reckon he's getting through a lot more work than Pyle at the moment.

I had about 10 schooners pre match so excuse me if I missed a few things
as well Beale and folau, I thought Poitiger had a stormer and Nick phipps has really grown on me as a player, he is said to be exceptionally fit even by pro rugby standards and I think this ability has him making good choices late in games.
To those questioning Izzy's ability, class give yourself a uppercut

PK, don't forget that when it was first suggested the Folau was going to move from league to rugby, that the vast majority of G&GR posters said:
1. In his first year he will be lucky to get on the Waratah bench and should spend 2013 playing Shute Shield
2. He would never be able to understand the complexities of rugby
3. He would never be anything other than a winger
4. He would never play for the Wallabies in 2013 and probably not a all
And on and on and on it went.
There are still some who can't admit that they were wrong and point to every wrong decision that he might make in 80 minutes of rugby (and there aren't that many) and try to make something of it. These souls conveniently overlook the fact that players who have been in rugby since they were 6 and in elite junior programmes since school, take similar poor options from time to time.
He is about the most complete player in either of the rugby codes at the moment - certainly in Australia, but some rah rah types can't get past the fact that he once played league.

Personally, I didn't want him because of the mercenary attitude, after he / his management fiddle-arsed around between the AFL, NRL and Waratahs. I doubted his ability in a more congested game after being less than impressive for three years at GWS. I had written him off as a kid who succeeded in loig because of the champions around him.
That first game against the Reds was ordinary. He shut me up after that.

Israel Folau is a gun. I had the joy of watching him play for the Storm for a couple of years, what seems like a lifetime ago.
I am glad he is playing for the Wallabies. He could play for the Rebels every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

How often has someone from your team made a break / half a break and you think all the player has to do is draw the fullback and pass for a try to be scored? Only for there to be no one there in support and the player has to take the tackle.

During the Hickey/Foley era, Scooter, this was the norm. On the rare occasions that the Waratahs broke the line, the ball runner was often pulled down inside the opposition 22 without another blue jumper in sight.
Things must be going well if we are criticising a player for backing-up and scoring tries.
