Queensland poll suggests Campbell Newman could lose his own seat

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/06/poll-suggests-campbell-newman-could-lose

"A Queensland poll suggests the premier, Campbell Newman, and more than half his MPs face losing their seats at next year's election.
A ReachTEL poll of voters commissioned by The Sunday Mail and the Seven Network indicated up to 40 of the Liberal National party's 73 sitting members could be voted out, the Mail reports."

PUP would equal the 5 Star Party of Italy if they actually had some thoughts of their own and not what Clive has allowed them. Apart from wanting a well hung rich boy who doesn't talk as a spouse that is.

This is quite incredible, shades of Watergate:

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/alp-the-guilty-party-20140724-3ciis.html

Senior staff from Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews' office and Labor Party chiefs were involved in the theft of a journalist's recording device as part of a dirty tricks campaign to destabilise the Napthine Government.

The Age can reveal that a dictaphone belonging to Sunday Age political editor Farrah Tomazin was handed in to lost property by security at Labor's state conference in May, before it was obtained and listened to by one of the top officials in Victorian Labor ranks.

The dictaphone contained a private conversation between Tomazin and former Liberal premier Ted Baillieu in which he was critical of colleagues. More than a month later a link to the conversation, now posted online, was emailed to hundreds of Liberal Party members by a person claiming to be a Liberal Party member - using a false name.

It is understood that copies of the taped conversation were made by a senior Labor official and scrutinised by others in the party's organisational wing, as well as senior strategists in Mr Andrews' office.

It's just so stupid. When you have to ask the legal guys if a tactic is wise, you know you are going down the wrong track. But they were told no and they still did it! Dumb dumb dumb.

And they were leading in the polls too!

Paul Nicolaou resigns as chief executive of Australian Hotels Association

Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/paul-nicolaou-resigns-as-chief-executive-of-australian-hotels-association-20140730-zydwo.html#ixzz38w3qxslW

"Liberal Party identity Paul Nicolaou has resigned as chief executive of the NSW branch of the Australian Hotels Association just days before resumption of a corruption inquiry, in which he has been embroiled, that is probing the party's fundraising practices."

"Mr Nicolaou ran the Millennium Forum - the NSW Liberal Party's main fundraising arm - for more than 10 years before his resignation in late April, following evidence at the ICAC.

On Saturday, Fairfax Media revealed the NSW Liberal Party has decided to shut down the discredited Millennium Forum but has established a new body, the Federal Forum, to solicit political donations for federal election campaigns.

During the Liberal Party state council on Saturday, it emerged that the ongoing ICAC hearings were taking a toll on the party's finances due to mounting legal expenses and a drop in donations."

Two more NSW Libs have stood down and will now sit on the cross benches after ICAC today.

Tim Owen and Andrew Cornwell.

Federal Liberal Party director Brian Loughnane (who is Peta Credlin's husband) has been drawn into it today. Apparently he was aware of illegal donations from property developers.

Could get really interesting in the next few days...

Profound contribution as always, boyo.

Feel for both MPs actually, from what I understand both were just candidates who were caught up in all of this under considerable pressure from party leaders.

Cornwell in particular, he had the potential to be a senior Minister or even Premier.

Hartcher and Gallacher have a lot to answer for.

I don't think Cornwell is going to look like such a good guy soon.

The evidence coming out today seems to be suggesting that a property developer hatched a scheme to pay Cornwell a deposit to buy his house and then not proceed so Cornwell could keep the money as a donation.

I like that he sought the legal opinion of his Dad who had been struck off by the Law Society.

He also sought the legal opinion of his Mum who I believe is still registered.
