An article in the courier mail on the 17yr old centre playing for QLD Country, apparently NRL clubs are trying to pinch him from the Reds... At 196cm and 100kg at only 17yrs old, he could be Queensland's answer to George North.

HE IS a 196cm, flame-haired, 17-year-old already playing against Wallabies, so naturally NRL clubs are lining up to snatch Campbell Magnay from the Queensland Reds.

Magnay is poised to become a star of the NRC when he is unleashed off Queensland Country’s bench at Bond University today.
Named after his relation and former Norths Devils wild man Campbell “Zulu” Dews, Magnay is a hard-running outside centre who will partner Wallaby Anthony Fainga'a when he makes his NRC debut against NSW Country this afternoon.
Queensland Reds officials rate the 100 kilogram back highly and they are trying to fend off interest from the Brisbane Broncos and a western Sydney NRL club to re-sign him.
The NRC is a great development tool for the ARU but it allows NRL scouts an easy way to poach the brightest rugby talent.
The Reds are favourites to keep Magnay who fell in love with rugby union during high school at Nudgee.

Campbell Magnay will play off the bench for Queensland Country in the NRC on Saturday.

Despite his imposing frame, Magnay has legitimate pace. He came third in the 100 metre sprint at the Australian primary school championships and was targeted for an athletics career before focusing on rugby.

He's a big kid that's for sure. Had a good run and put a hit on. But in the dying minutes he passed it on when he should have run at someone.

Anyway he's 17. Let's keep him off the freaking dark side and then he can develop into a big centre or a lightning fast blindside.

He'll be pretty big when he grows up. Personally, I'd have him down the local athletics track working on his speed work while focusing on putting more meat on his considerable frame.

Campbell or "Big Red" is a considerable athlete and had a fair game over the weekend with himself and Bobby Tuttle only getting 10 mins each. The NRC is also a massive jump in grade for Campbell, he has only played a few short games off the bench for prems (he had both Sam Johnson and Samu Kerevi in front of him) so most of this season he has been dominating colts or has been injured. He reminds me of a young red headed Greg Inglis, he has an excellent fend, one of the best front on defenders for a big man and has plenty of pace when he needs it.

As both he and Tuttle get more game time their games will improve immensely as they also had a great combination when they played colts together at the start of the year.

On the game, I thought a few QLD players were very underwhelming like Gale, Hirsimaki, Brandon, Fitzgerald (in defense), Knox, Pincus, and Winks at stages too.

Especially for a bloke who has played S15, I expected a whole lot more from Gale. But then I haven't rated him for a while. Ma'afu was impressive when he came on for Freney who also had a decent game.

There is definitely room for improvement and they should improve immensely with some bigger names returning to the squad.

Shame, as Gale doesn't get a chance to redeem himself for his poor first game.

That was a lovely pass from Ant for the final try.

Not sure as Grasso for Gales replacement, but he cant be any worse!

Congrats to Campbell "Big Red" Magnay on earning a starting spot in the side for this weekends clash.

Interesting that Bne City have 4 #9 in their squad - Genia, Frisby, Mullins & Thompson all who would be better placed ahead of Grasso.

Regarding the Rays match.

Favorite moment of the match was at 1:04:00

I love the ref feed for the audio, Andrew Lees does well at putting players in their place, thereby stamping his authority on the game: 57:08, 1:23:18

Areas where country have been doing well IMO: set piece, sustaining pressure, and pilfers (at times)

Needs improvement: ball retention in the tackle, accuracy of kicking in general play, decision making by #9. The back line is not working as a unit.
