Won't it be disappointing if they don't get out of the pool stage.

Was just thinking the same thing. They've beaten Scotland, one assumes they're not so bad they'll lose to Mark Waugh (Afghanistan, geddit?) but there's gonna be some really, really nervous Nigel's at the Bangladesh match..............

And to answer your obviously rhetorical question, no it won't. Not even a little bit.

Well done on the result yesterday, Oldboy.

After the Aussie innings I went to the pub to feel better and rather (un)fortunately ran into a kiwi mate. As is customary, he had a lot to say about McCullum, the Chiefs, Watson and our batting order, but towards the end of the game he was remarkably quiet until Williamson ruined everything. Rest of the night was on me and remains pretty hazy but I take it the Mrs hasn't forgiven me for my antics last night as I haven't seen her all day!

I have to admit that there was no way we deserved to win that game. Starc was magnificent in making it a contest, I reckon right now he's amongst the best in the world in this format. Found it interesting that Johnson went missing.

Fantastic result for the tournament however after todays result between Sri Lanka and England I'm starting to worry that we may have to make another trip across the ditch.

Sri Lanka have had a pretty quiet tournament so far but with blokes like Malinga, Mathews, Sangakkara, Thiramanne, Herath, Chandimal and Dilshan they have serious quality. Those guys and an experienced head like Jayawardne, is it time they enter the conversation?

^^^^^ only 2 things worse than a Chiefs supporter after they've just had a win, one being a Horrorcanes supporter after they've just had a win v the Crusaders, the other being me after the CruSadists (TM) & NZ Cricket's 1st XI have both won...........

Yeah, SL starting to look like the business but I suspect they'll come unstuck against genuine pace on anything resembling a fast & bouncy surface (as will NZ). Still your Cup to lose or for Sethfricka to gift someone (most likely your guys). Enjoying the ride while it lasts but I've seen NZ go down this road many, many times over the years & it always ends in "WTF went wrong?".

Pakistan making England look like a well-drilled cricket match-winning machine, 162/6 & right now the guy they sent home for going to the casino is sitting in his lounge room wearing a "Fuck You BCCP" T-shirt & grinning like a madman..........

Misbah makes sure they bat out their 50 & get to 220 or maybe 240 but I'm not sure that'll be enough, and going by his body language as he trudged off I don't think he does, either.

235/7, good recovery from 14/2 but shouldn't be enough unless Irfan or BoomBoom get jiggy with it........

What a catch from Misbah, ball must've been red-hot after re-entering the atmosphere........ Pakistan needed that just to keep the pressure on: they're not gonna restrict Zimbabwe to under 235, gotta keep chipping away the wickets.

Wicket maiden from Irfan.

Afridi dishes up,a pie, Taylor takes the 4 & Afridi blows up at the poor bastard on the boundary who had NO FUCKING CHANCE of cutting it off. Another pie, 4 more, not sure if BoomBoom blowing up again as they've gone straight to an ad break.

If Afridi played rugby he'd be Kurtley Beale & if Beale played cricket he'd be Afridi, every time either of them fucks up its always somebody else's fault........

Irfan doing the business here, 4/25 & giving Ervine a real working-over. Zims need to see him off, keep pushing it around & they got this, 69 needed off 67.

Ervine knicks a wide one to the keeper who amazingly doesn't drop it, 168/7 & Zims might be in a bit of trouble here........

New guy out 2nd ball, 168/8 & Zims pretty much fucked from here one would think........

We play Bangladesh Afghanistan on Wednesday, and should win comfortably, then face an in form Sri Lanka with the result probably determining 2nd place in Pool A.

If we get beaten, we face the prospect of 2nd in Pool B (most likely Saffers) in a knock out 1/4 final with the winner going on to face NZL in a semi final at Eden Park.

If we beat Sri Lanka, then 1/4 final game becomes a whole lot easier, possibly Pakistan or Windies at the Adelaide Oval.
The likely semifinal opponent then becomes the Winner of India v England (probs) at the SCG. India has struggled all summer against us.

I know which side of the knockout draw I'd like to be on, and it isn't the side where we have to face NZL and SAF to have a crack at India in the final.

TL;DR: We need to beat Sri Lanka.

It's Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Bangladesh was the game that got washed out thanks to the ridiculous amount of rain in Brisbane the week before last.

^^^ Oops, you're right. It is Afghanistan on Wednesday. Incidentally the Afghanistan U19's beat our U19's at last years U19 World Cup. They are on the rise.

That cyclone may end up very costly for Australian Cricket.

This I'm not so sure about.

They got hammered by NZ in their opener then barely got over the line against Afghanistan. They beat Bangladesh by only 92 runs after scoring well over 300 then destroyed a very average English team that can't buy wickets.

I reckon they are an outside chance for the cup because they have some quality individuals and a firing batting order. Having seen all their games so far they don't seem to be a team playing for each other. Add to that average fielding, a finger injury to their key spinner, and a bowling unit that averages over 10 an over between overs 40-50 (believe it's the highest of tier 1 nations) and you have a team very capable of under-performing regularly.

Based on form I reckon we're still way ahead but I'm happy if we assume the underdog status.

Sangakkara is in great form. If we can get him early it'll go a long way towards us winning.

I'm flying down Sunday morning for the Sri Lanka match after going to Reds v Tahs on Saturday night. Then up early Monday to get back to Bris in time for work.

So a big weekend ahead but happy I planned it so tightly now as have won the St George seats to sit on the Reds bench on Saturday night.

It's very heartening for Oz cricket followers to see Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins bowling well, and also for Johnson to take four wickets last night, albeit against lowly Afghanistan. Johnson's been outstanding the last few years after Lillee and McDermott tweaked his technique (his arm's now less slingy and more upright on the release) but he can't be the only spearhead of our pace attack. The fast bowling stocks look pretty good ATM, even better when Pattinson finds his mojo. Cummins and Pattinson have put in the best performances of the young 'uns the last five or so years, here's hoping they can get back there for the good of Oz cricket.

Isn't Starc in a purple patch ATM?

Malcolm Knox in today's SMH:

There have been 15 scores of more than 400 in the history of one-day international cricket, all of them since 2006, three of them since Friday. The 417 runs Australia tore out of Afghanistan's bowlers in Perth on Wednesday chewed up landmarks as it rumbled along: highest all-wicket partnership (Steve Smith and David Warner, 260), highest score in a World Cup, highest score on Australian soil. Glenn Maxwell did not quite make the fastest Australian ODI century but had to settle for the fastest 88 (off 39 balls). This was not batting so much as drag racing. What did it mean, if anything? For the omitted Shane Watson, it meant more anguish. As one press box wag put it, he could have definitely plundered 40 off that bowling.

Made I laugh. And laugh.

It was rugby journo Iain Payten!

Meanwhile, the Bangers made the terrible choice of winning the toss and bowling and the mighty Scots are making them pay. Kyle Coetzer has hit Scotland's first ever hundred in a CWC.
