Be careful about assessing a players ability to play Rugby 7's based on the skills and abilities they have in the 15 aside version of the game.

There are some fine athletes named in the Qld Red and White team, but 7's requires specialist skills and fitness that many talented 15 aside players struggle with.

One missed tackle or bad defensive read in a Rugby7's game can be the difference between being in the final or the play off for 5th v 8th.

Where is Malakie ?
Didn't know he left

Yeah obviously that side is a joke.
Watching a fair bit of Terrace last year I would say the side would look at bit more like this

1. Ollie Clarke (16 A's)
2. Harry Birgan (15 A's Captain, Met North, Qld 15's)
3. Josh Nasser (15 A's, Met North, Qld 15's)
4. Jono Clough
5. Angus Morris/Eddy Paynter/ ???
6. Jack Lutvey (16 A's)
7. Will Beirne (A few first XV games, 16 A's)
8. Patty Carrigan (first XV)

9. Reuben Wall (first XV, Qld schoolboy, Qld 7's)
10. Isaac Lucas (15 A's, Met North, Qld 15's)
11. Quillan Malakai (first XV, Qld 7's)
12. Joe Pozzi (16 A's)/ Hugh McMahon (16 A's captain)
13. Bailey Ralston/Jordan Rodgers/ Nivek Wrigley/?
14. Matt Forsyth (first XV)
15. Darcy Moreland/Jordan Rodgers/Quillan Malakai?

doesnt look as good as last year when they had some real pace out wide. also looks like a small forward pack compared to NC( 2 returning aussie schoolboys) TSS ( the massive number 8 is back )and BBC ( gunter , swain , hope and both Farrells are back) but as GT showed in 2013 a small fast well drilled pack can beat a team of individual stars. good luck to them GT are always so good over the ball . be warned the NC forward pack will be huge and their new league star was chased by 2 other schools

Happy to Chat

Qld Red only got 4 th .
It looked to me like the team to beat . Any news on who played well ?
Certainly after day one they were the team to beat, came out of the blocks on day 2 a little sluggish and were caught on the back foot. The play was not as polished as day one maybe a little too much individual play. Standouts were Reece Hewitt, Jayden Ngamanu and Dylan Riley had solid games throughout.

Good Afternoon fellow Rugby lovers! It's me, Connor Gillespie, I am from the wonderful Anglican Church Grammar School. I predict the season is going to be a great one! Having schoolboy players mixed throughout all the GPS teams, from Churchie to Nudgee, from Terrace to Ippy, It's going to a magnificent season!

I have done some calculations and my results are phenomenal, and go as:

1. TSS
2. Nudgee
3. Terrace
4. BBC
5. Churchie
6. Grammar
7. Ipswich
8. Toowoomba
9. State High

These have been calculated by the professionals... My team has done a great deal of research on players, coaches and training programs.

My kindest regards for the season, hope everyone achieves to the best they can be!!

Sincerely,

Connor Gillespier

Caio Trent Baker,
You are not wrong from positions: 2,3,4,5,6,7, & 8.
But to point out your wrongness for some: 9 is most definitely going to be Reuben Wall, He is safe is that position are plays to his best of ability every game. 10 is going to be Isaac Lucas, Isaac shows abilities that other players don't show, defence is on point, attack is on point, he is on point! 11 is going to Matthew Forsyth, off season has really made an affect on him, attitude has changed and I have seen his dedication to training outside of the GPS pool. I believe he will be playing in this position. 13,14, & 15 are correct, these young men have played outstanding at previous clubs, previous teams have loved these boys and will all have an outstanding season!

Kind regards

Connor Gillespie

How right you are. Day 1 Qld Red beats ACT 31to 5

Some 5 matches later on day 2 ACT beats Qld Red 15-14.

Are N Wrigley and J Rogers new to the school - I cant find any record of them playing last year?? I think Forsyth could well be in the 13 this season.

Dear Connor

The same prediction was made about GT last year by a poster known as "Red & Black"-he has since gone quiet.
Good luck to GT-size will be a big issue-but passion will not.2016 is a better chance.

Both new. in yr11, Wrigley played Qld 15's league, while Rodgers I hear is a kid new to the game, both league and union with a touch background. GT scouts hope for him to be a "Ponga" type

good to see Barkers recruitment skills are being put to work so quickly . BBC will miss that.

You are right, Day 1 the Red team looked a class above the rest (even NSW). Day 2 they got off to a very sluggish start, hestitating, the zip in their run non existent, terrible ball control and some selfish play.... they let Vic score early and then had to play catch up, which is the worst thing in 7's. Same thing in the 2nd game against ACT, Red let them score early then had to play catch up.

I thought Hewitt and Ngamanu were great the first day but went missing the 2nd day.... Riley was good without being brilliant. Personally I thought Edwards was the most consistent and effective and Moseley looked to know the most about 7's rugby and tried hard to control the game when the rest of them were falling apart on the 2nd day.

Disappointing end to what started as a brilliant tournament. For the Qld teams to finish 4th and 5th, when the Red team was by far the better team is not a good indication of the talent..... but hey that's the game of 7's for you!!

i hope you are right but my head says Nudgee with 2 Aussie schoolboys back in their forwards along with many 2nd year 1stxv and a new league star brought in by Shane Drahm are clear favourites.

Gungenia - Who is this new league star bought in you speak of?

A little research tells me they BOTH played Met-East Rugby League last year and they both attended Cav Road HS.

Rogers has had some League exposure but is a rep Oztag player.
Wrigley has played plenty of rep league

Have not got a name yet-but is on Broncos books and they have a big wrap on him. I am told he was to interview at Genia's old school but didnt get in the door as grades were not good enough.

Were they recruited by Barker or already in pipeline?.Didnt take long for new HM to rubber stamp recruitment. Good luck to GT -always so well coached.

I thought Hewitt and Ngamanu were great the first day

How did Ngamanu's BBC mates-Veravis & Raroran go.? I was expecting zip zip Veravis to be a star at 7s?

With that 3 at the back for BBC this year you would not expect much kicking-lets hope they all stay injury free -for the sake of running rugby.

No idea - Gt has always (last few years anyway) been prepared to bring in a couple of kids here and there, just not a whole team like some will do.

New HM is a former long standing first grade rugby player and club stalwart at Souths so I suspect he will want to enjoy his Saturday afternoons in Winter.

Not sure why the 'scouts' cant ever seem to find a lock over 6'3" for the team though.
